Our Daily Bread Devotional 2 August 2018 – Healing Flood

Topic: Healing Flood [Our Daily Bread 2nd Thursday August, 2018]

Read: Psalm 107:1–16, 35–36, Bible in a Year: Psalms 60–62; Romans 5

He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs. Psalm 107:35

I’ve always loved a good thunderstorm. As kids, whenever a storm was truly incredible—with booming thunder and buckets of heavy rain pounding down—my siblings and I would make a mad dash around the outside of our house, slipping and sliding along the way. When it was time to go back inside, we were soaked to the bone.

It was an exhilarating taste—for just a few minutes—of being immersed in something so powerful we couldn’t quite tell whether we were having fun or terrified.

This picture comes to mind when, as in Psalm 107, Scripture compares God’s restoration to a barren wilderness transformed into “pools of water” (v. 35). Because the kind of storm that transforms a desert into an oasis isn’t a gentle shower—it’s a downpour, flooding every crack of parched ground with new life.

And isn’t that the kind of restoration we long for? When our stories feel like tales of aimless wandering because we are “hungry and thirsty”—starving—for healing that never seems to arrive (vv. 4–5), we need more than a bit of hope. And when deep-rooted patterns of sin leave us trapped “in utter darkness” (vv. 10–11), our hearts need more than a little change.

That’s exactly the kind of transformation our God can bring (v. 20). It’s never too late to bring our fears and shame to the One who’s more than able to break our chains and flood our darkness with His light (vv. 13–14).

Prayer: Father, help us turn to You with our burdens, trusting Your love and power to write a new story of healing and transformation.

God’s power transforms.

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland 2 August 2018 Daily Devotional – Courage Comes From Faith

Topic: Courage Comes From Faith [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland 2nd August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. – Joshua 1:9

Courage comes from trusting God. It can’t be mentally drummed up. It comes from believing what God says regardless of what the circumstances look like. Courage comes from faith!

Where does discouragement come from? From fear and unbelief. It comes when you listen to the devil’s lies about what God is not going to do for you.

As the people of God, you and I must shake off discouragement and rise up with courage! We must quit looking at our own abilities and failures and limitations and start looking to God. We must rise up in the Name of Jesus and the power of His Spirit and establish the kingdom of heaven upon earth.

If you’ve been discouraged lately, stop listening to Satan’s lies. Stop receiving evil reports. Whenever someone tells you God is not going to deliver you, you just tell them, “He’s already delivered me in the Name of Jesus.”

Once you begin to realize who you are and what you’ve been given by the power of God, you’ll quit letting the devil run all over you. God didn’t suggest that you be strong and courageous. That is His command!

DCLM Daily Manna 2 August 2018 Daily Devotional – Return of the Ark

Topic: Return of the Ark [DCLM Daily Manna 2nd August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: 1 Chronicles 13:1-14 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjathjearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubims, whose name is called on it” (1 Chronicles 13:6).

MESSAGE:

Arnold Glasow once said: “One of the tests of leadership is the ability to recognise a problem before it becomes an emergency”. In emergency situations, many leaders resort to panic actions.

The ark, a symbol of God’s presence, power and protection had been captured and kept by the Philistines for seven months. It was later returned to Israel and kept at Kirjathjearim. And throughout his reign, King Saul treated the ark with disdain as it lay in obscurity. But when David became king over all Israel, one of his foremost duties was to mobilise and bring back the ark to Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, it is a grievous sin to take God for granted. This lesson was lost upon Uzzah while the ark was being brought back as he put forth his hand to hold the ark – a forbidden act. He was immediately visited with the wrath of God. Uzzah’s act was the prize of doing a noble deed in an ignoble manner. The prescription was that the ark should be carried by the sons of Kohath with the use of a cart; neither should it be touched by a human hand.

As we engage in the work of the Lord, we must do so with diligence and reverence, timeliness and promptness. This is because God’s work is a serious business and we must see it as David regarded it. A carefree and presumptuous attitude to the work of the ministry should be abhorred and avoided.

It is mandatory for believers to serve God. Serving Him however, must be in His terms of holiness and righteousness, decency and orderliness. Any service rendered without these conditions are unacceptable to Him.

Thought For The Day: Love and reverence must characterise our work for God.

Smartphone Addiction Causing Problems for Children, Teens, Parents

In a recent article by The Atlantic, Erika Christakis asserts that there is a growing epidemic of parents distracted by smartphones, unable to attend to the needs of their children.

This issue has grown more and more over the years, given the prevalence of smartphones and their presence in our daily lives. Not only is precious time being robbed from children, empathy and cognitive growth is as well.

The Atlantic quotes Temple University professor, Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, saying, “Language is the single best predictor of school achievement… and the key to strong language skills are those back-and-forth fluent conversations between young children and adults.”

Hirsh-Pasek also states, “Toddlers cannot learn when we break the flow of conversations by picking up our cellphones or looking at the text that whizzes by our screens.”

Michael Bublé Returns to the Stage after His Son Miraculously Beats Cancer

Michael Bublé Returns to the Stage after His Son Miraculously Beats Cancer

Michael Bublé’s entire life changed in an instant when doctors gave his son Noah a grim diagnosis. But after a 3-year break, the popular crooner is in Dublin, Ireland kicking off his new tour. And while he was there, Michael Bublé spoke about his son’s cancer battle and how God used it for good.

In 2016, Michael and his wife, Luisana, received the kind of news every parent dreads. Doctors diagnosed their oldest son Noah with liver cancer at just 3 years old. Without hesitation, both Michael and Luisana put their careers on hold so Noah could start treatment right away.

“There is no decision to be made. You just do what you have to do for the family,” Michael recalls.

They broke the news on Facebook and the pair wrote in their post,

“We have always been very vocal about the importance of family and the love we have for our children. Luisana and I have put our careers on hold in order to devote all our time and attention to helping Noah get well.”

The couple also asked all of their friends, family, and fans to pray for little Noah. And the outpouring of love that followed was bigger than anyone could’ve ever imagined!

Michael’s fans rallied around the singer, overwhelming him and his family with all the love and support they needed. The family put their faith in God and the most amazing thing happened next.

Noah’s cancer was gone! He was able…

Christian Music Festival Co-Founder Guilty of Child Sex Charges

Christian Music Festival Co-Founder Guilty of Child Sex Charges

A New Jersey court sentenced a former pastor and co-founder of a popular Christian music festival to 18 years in prison, Friday. Harry Thomas, the former pastor at Come Alive New Testament Church in Medford, NJ, and co-founder of the Creation Festival, pled guilty to sexually assaulting a nine-year-old, engaging in sexual acts with three girls between seven-years-old and nine-years-old, and of exposing himself to another underage girl.

The assaults took place between 1999 and 2015. One of Thomas’ victims told her mother about his actions in November 2017 and authorities arrested Thomas the next month.

New Jersey Superior Court Judge Jeanne Covert handed down Thomas’s sentence. She acknowledged that handing an 18-year sentence without the possibility of parole to the 75-year-old “could well be a death sentence.”

One victim had a statement read on her behalf and told Thomas, “I hate you.” The relative of another victim quoted Scripture and another told him he would “surely rot in hell.” The father of one victim called Thomas “a ravenous wolf” and “a child molester masquerading as a pastor.”

Thomas cried during a statement at the sentencing. He said, “I don’t understand why I did these things. I would never hurt them, but I did.

Thomas’ Attorney, Robin Lord, sought to remove his guilty plea, which he agreed to when he had another attorney. She…

Open Heavens 2 August 2018 – Are You in the Number?

Topic: Are You in the Number? [Open Heavens 2 August 2018 Thursday Daily Devotional]

Memorise:Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”- Acts 14:22

Read: Revelation 19:5-9 (KJV)

5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Bible in One Year: Esther 8-10, Matthew 12:33-50

Open Heavens 2 August 2018 MESSAGE:

Based on the erroneous understanding of the scripture in Revelation 7:4, a certain religious group claims that only one hundred and forty-four thousand people will qualify to be in heaven. This cannot be further from the truth because the Bible says in verse nine of the same chapter:

“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;” – Revelation 7:9

Further, debunking this wrong teaching, Apostle John in today’s Bible reading heard the voice of a great multitude shouting Alleluia in worship of the Omnipotent God. They were rejoicing because they were numbered among the participants at the marriage supper of the Lamb. The question for our consideration today is what qualified them to be numbered among these very important guests at the marriage supper of the Lamb? The answer to this question is found in Revelation 7:13-14:

“13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

Our Lord Jesus Christ came to shed His blood for the remission of our sins, so that we can qualify as citizens of heaven and be numbered among the saints. What is required of us is to accept the offer of his atonement and live by the articles of the new covenant, which He sealed with His Blood. Doing this will surely attract persecution and tribulation in this world. The challenge with some contemporary Christians is that they don’t want to experience persecution or undergo tribulation for the sake of their faith in Christ. They want the world to accept them, and so they adjust their message to what the world likes. We often forget these words of Jesus in John 15:20c:

“If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.”

In other words, just as the world did not like the teachings of the Master, they will also not like ours. However, when we introduce gimmicks not found in the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ and His Apostles into our message loses its power. How shall we be numbered among the guest at the marriage supper of the Lamb? The answer lies in these words from Acts 14:22: “We must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.” There is no other way.

Prayer Point: Father, please grant unto me the grace to endure tribulations.

Seeds of Destiny 2 August 2018 Daily Devotional

Topic: The Deployment of Potentials – A Major Factor for Success in Life [Seeds of Destiny 2 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Scripture: And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Matthew 25:15

Thought For The Day: Your potentials determine your possibilities; Your Potentials determine your opportunities.

Yesterday, we saw the discovery of purpose as one of the most important things in life; we saw that life without a bearing is a burden and that life without purpose is pointless.

Today, we shall look at another very important thing in life which is the deployment of life’s potentials.

This is the release of the gifts inside you. It is important to know that potential is the vehicle of destiny (Proverbs 18:16). If you travel by potential, you will reach your destiny. Your gifts and potentials transport you from your present into your future; your potential has the capacity to transport you from the realm of smallness to the realm of greatness. Your potentials determine your portion; your potentials determine your possibilities; Your Potentials determine your opportunities. To hide your gifts is to halt your destiny. There are so many people who are loaded with heavy potential but wasting away in idleness and confusion.

Beloved, the question is, what has God given you? Have you discovered it? And have you started using it? Your profit on earth is connected to your potential release. People value you to the extent to which you have released your gifting and graces. Nobody cares for a nonentity who has nothing to offer.

My counsel is, make up your mind to push out what God has put inside you.

Remember this: Your potentials determine your possibilities; your Potentials determine your opportunities.
Assignments:
1. Discover the potentials God has given you.
2. Maximally deploy your potentials for the benefit of humanity and to the glory of God.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask that You show me what You have put in me. I receive the grace to deploy my potentials maximally, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

How Partisanship Drives Religious Attitudes

How Partisanship Drives Religious Attitudes

Which comes first, religion or politics?

On the one hand, political scientists have long held that people’s political choices are formed by their childhood faith, which, for the most part, sticks with them.

On the other, 81 percent of white evangelicals voted for Donald Trump, a thrice-married adulterer who rarely attends church.

Bethel Church Asks for Prayers as Wildfires Rage in California

As wildfires spread through Northern Carolina, Bethel Church in Redding, California is asking for prayers for their home.

According to CBN News, many of the church leaders have had to evacuate.

“Right now, we’re inviting the global community to join us in praying for Redding, for Northern California, and for California overall. Here are some specific prayer targets: Peace to our state and to those near fire, wisdom and safety for firefighters and officials, rain and the ceasing of wind, the smoke to clear for full visibility, no lightning strikes, and for total and complete containment,” Bethel Church posted on social media.

“God, we invite You to come and bring healing and divine intervention to this situation, and to the fires burning throughout California. You are faithful, and You are sovereign over the weather. Bring restoring rains, and protect this land.”

Bethel Music and Bethel Media CEO Joel Taylor also posted on Instagram that his family had to evacuate, but he said the family is relying on God through this time.

“Our Bethel leadership team is scattered all over the state, but doing an incredible job to catalyze relief efforts and make sure our employees and their families are taken care of during this time of crisis. We’ve been through many trials and tribulations together and one thing I’m certain of: VICTORY. If God be for us, who can be against…
