On the Pilgrim Trail Across England, 400 Years After the Mayflower, Part 3

(PHOTO: DENNIS LENNOX)Edward Winslow, one of the most prominent Pilgrims, was baptized at the font in St. Peter’s Church.

After visiting the home of the Mayflower and then discovering the towns and villages of the first Baptists and Congregationalists, I drove west across England to Worcester.

This cathedral city with its relatively modest population (102,700, as of 2017) is full of history, including the final English Civil War battle between the forces of Charles I and Oliver Cromwell in 1651. Cromwell’s victory in the name of liberty drew John Adams and Thomas Jefferson to visit in 1786, though today Worcester is probably better known for Worcestershire sauce.

Worcester and the surrounding county of Worcestershire are integral parts of the Mayflower story, as the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims departing England aboard the Mayflower approaches in 2020.

That’s because Edward Winslow, one of the most prominent Pilgrims, called Worcestershire home.

Winslow, born in 1595, was baptized at St. Peter’s Church, the Church of England parish church in Droitwich Spa. Then as now, Droitwich, as it is more commonly called, is a suburb of Worcester.

As one would expect, the church has been altered over the centuries, but its historical fittings and fabric date back to the Normans and include the font used to baptize Winslow.

Newer additions include a memorial plaque to Winslow on the north wall and a circa 1970s vestry that is also named after him. Of course, there is some irony in this because Winslow would later become a Separatist, as the religious dissenters who advocated a complete break from…

Christians online say ‘koinonia’ was an easy winning word for spelling bee

The Scripp’s National Spelling Bee in America was won by Karthick Nemmani, 14, from Texas after he was asked to spell ‘koinonia’.

The Greek word is defined as ‘Christian fellowship or communion, with God or, more commonly, with fellow Christians’.

Nemmani asked for the definition, the language of origin and if there were any alternative pronunciations before spelling it correctly and winning the competition.

However, Christians were joking online that it was too easy for believers:

Churches to help stop car wash modern slavery with app

The National Crime Agency thinks there are tens of thousands of people being exploited in the UK, forced to work long hours, for little or no pay, and under threat of violence. They suspect many of them are working in terrible conditions in car washes as police have unearthed this kind of exploitation in garages throughout the country.

To combat the problem, drivers are being encouraged to join a national information-gathering campaign launched by the Church of England  and the Catholic Church in an app.

The Safe Car Wash app will allow drivers to log where they are washing their car and answer a series of questions which could help identify if the staff have been trafficked.

This could vary from saying whether the workers have suitable protective clothing to any personal indicators such as staff seeming withdrawn.

The questions will be:

  • Do the workers have access to suitable protective clothing? Look out for gloves and boots.

  • Is there evidence of workers living on site? Can you see a caravan or mattresses and bedding?

  • Does anyone appear controlling or intimidating?

  • Does the body language of the workers appear withdrawn or fearful?

  • Do there appear to be minors working at the car wash?

  • Did you pay less than £6.70 for the car wash?

  • Does the car wash only accept cash?

  • Did they offer a receipt?

Users can open the app when they are at the car wash and pinpoint their exact location using GPS.

If the answers…

New range of DBS checks to come into play for church workers

The Churches Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS) are the independent Christian safeguarding charity who help train organisations and staff about protection.

They are launching a new set of DBS checks for roles in churches and Christian organisations which don’t meet the requirements to have an enhanced DBS check but where the organisation feels it would still be right to have some sort of basic check.

This was decided by the government earlier this year and allows those who appoint people to search the National Police Computer for convictions which could be relevant to the role.

Justin Humphrys, CEO of CCPAS told Premier: “The idea behind basic checks is that they allow a lower level of criminal records check to be made for people involved who don’t meet eligibility for the higher level checks…where there is a role that has some contact with children or vulnerable adults, there is concern about wanting to make sure the right sorts of people are in those roles yet they don’t meet eligibility for a higher check – this is new the offer that’s in place.”

“It really allays some of the anxieties and concerns that a lot of organisations have when they come to us and say, ‘look we really want to check this person, we think it’s the right thing to do, it demonstrates safe practice however they don’t meet the threshold’.”

The basic disclosure check is the lowest…

Jonathan Aitken, former MP convicted of perjury, to be prison chaplain

Jonathan Aitken was an MP in the Thanet area for 20 and held a Cabinet position under John Major.

In 1999 he was sent to prison for perjury and perverting the course of justice but whilst inside he read the Bible more, having attended an alpha course in the past, and became a Christian.

He later studied theology at Oxford and became an honorary president of Christian Solidarity Worldwide.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, he said he was looking forward to being ordained: “I am having a slight struggle tempering my enthusiasm with proper Christian humility.”

Mr Aitken, 75, said that various clergymen asked him about his “past sins”, about which he said: “I don’t know if they went through the press cuttings”.

He will be ordained by the Bishop of London, Sarah Mullally on 30th June and become a prison chaplain, helping inmates deal with loss, self-harm and suicide attempts.

Speaking of going into ministry later in life he said: “I feel I’ve got the energy for it and, above all, I’ve got the calling for it”

Service to mark London Bridge attacks at Southwark Cathedral

Candles will be lit by relatives of the victims during the private ceremony, before an olive tree – known as the Tree of Healing – is planted in the cathedral grounds using compost from floral tributes left on the bridge in the aftermath of the murders last year.

A procession from the cathedral to Southwark Needle, at the corner of London Bridge and Duke Street Hill, will take place following the ceremony, and a minute’s silence will be held at 4.30pm.

The Dean of Southwark, The Very Revd Andrew Nunn, who will host the service of commemoration, said the Tree of Healing will be “a constant reminder to us all of those who were harmed but also of the importance of our communities coming together to stand against violence in all its forms”.

A digital book of hope will be available at Southwark Cathedral throughout the weekend for the public to sign.

Ahead of the day’s commemorative events, the Prime Minister recalled the “stories of courage” which emerged from the attack.

She described it as a “cowardly attempt to strike at the heart of our freedoms by deliberately targeting people enjoying their Saturday night with friends and family”.

Mrs May said: “Today we remember those who died and the many more who were injured, and also pay tribute to the bravery of our emergency services and those who intervened or came to the aid of others.

“The many stories of courage…

New Italian Government Promises to Create Jobs & Deport Migrants

Italy’s new populist leaders commemorated the founding of the Italian republic by attending a pomp-filled military parade Saturday — and then promised to get to work creating jobs and expelling migrants.

“The free ride is over,” League leader Matteo Salvini, Italy’s new interior minister, warned migrants at a rally in northern Italy. “It’s time to pack your bags.”

The pledge of mass deportations to come was a reminder that Italy has a staunchly anti-immigrant, right-wing party in its governing coalition — and that the European Union will face a whole new partner governing its fourth-largest economy.

Earlier, Salvini joined Premier Giuseppe Conte and the rest of the newly sworn-in Cabinet to view the Republic Day parade. Italy’s aeronautic acrobatic squad flew low and loud over downtown Rome trailing smoke in the red, white and green of the Italian flag.

The national pride on display is a feature of every Republic Day, but it took on a particular significance this year after Italy on Friday ended three months of political and financial turmoil and swore in a government whose populist and euroskeptic leanings have alarmed Europe.

Conte, a law professor plucked from relative obscurity to head an unlikely governing alliance of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement and League, said the celebrations Saturday transcended all the tensions of recent days.

“It’s the celebration for all of us, of our republic,” he said.

Conte’s Cabinet was sworn in after a last-minute deal averted the threat of a new election that could have turned into a referendum on whether…

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 3 June 2018 Devotional — Winning God’s Way

Topic: Winning God’s Way [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Sunday June 3, 2018]

…Weeping may endure for a night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. — Psalm 30:5

Most of us are happy when we get what we want. That’s human nature. But when we walk with God as we should, other things become more important than seeing our desires fulfilled—things like seeking God’s desires for our lives, hearing His voice as we make decisions, and being obedient to His leading in every situation.

Dave and I once saw a picture in a store in the mall and I wanted to buy it. Dave didn’t think we needed it, so I threw one of my silent temper tantrums; I simply became quiet because I was angry.

“You okay?” Dave asked.

“Fine. I’m fine, fine, just fine.” I responded with my mouth while my mind was thinking, You always try to tell me what to do. What can’t you just leave me alone and let me do what I want to do?

I continued pouting for about an hour. I was trying to manipulate Dave. I knew that with his peaceful, phlegmatic personality, he would rather let me have my way than fight with me. I was too immature in the Lord to understand that my behavior was ungodly.

I began to push Dave to buy the picture and we finally bought it. As I placed it in my home, the Holy Spirit said to me, “You know, you really didn’t win. You got your picture, but you still lost because you didn’t do it My way.”

The only way to win in life is to do things God’s way. Then, even if we don’t get what we want, we have the great satisfaction of knowing we have obeyed His voice—and that outlasts the satisfaction that comes with any earthly possession or achievement.

Prayer Starter: Father, change my desires and help me to want what You want. Help me to be less selfish and more concerned with treating others the right way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Winners’ Prophetic Focus For June, 2018 – The Supernatural Is My New Realm In Redemption – John 3:8

New Dawn greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I have no doubt that every Winner must have been successfully launched into the realms of financial dominion by the fresh understanding of the covenant as unveiled all through the month of May 2018; and because the Word of God lives and abides forever, we shall abide in this new realm, all through the days of our lives, both as a church and as individuals. No one among us shall need to beg to survive anymore. None shall struggle to have bread to eat and no one shall live under the heavy burden of indebtedness anymore. But while others shall be saying there is a casting down, every Winner shall be singing, there is a lifting up, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

But what is the Holy Ghost saying to us as a church in this great month?
Remember, it is written; “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: SO IS EVERY ONE THAT IS BORN OF THE SPIRIT.” – Jn. 3:8

From the above scripture, we recognize that:

  • Every child of God is born a wonder to his world – Jn. 3:8/ Is. 8:18
  • The supernatural is the natural realm of everyone that is born again – Is. 7:14-15/ Jn. 17:18
  • A miracle is simply a confirmation of the word we receive, believe and obey – Jn. 1:12/ Jn 9:1-8/ Jn 21:5-6
  • Engaging with the word, empowers believers to operate in the supernatural – Ex. 4:17/ Jn. 14:21

Furthermore, we understand from the scriptures that:

  • God’s presence goes with everyone engaging in soul winning endeavours – Mk. 16:15-16/20
  • Behind the manifestation of the supernatural is divine presence – Mak. 16:15/ Ex.35:14-16
  • Signs and wonders are vital forces in reaping the harvest of souls into the kingdom – Jn. 4:48/ Act. 9: 33-36/37-42/44/ Act. 8:7-8
  • Commitment to Kingdom Advancement Endeavours secures divine presence, which is key to commanding the supernatural – Mk.16:15-16/20/Acts.14:11/Acts.19:11-12

On the other hand, as we engage our heart in praying kingdom advancement prayers, that is, praying for souls to be saved, praying for the saved to be established in the faith, praying for the needs of Church members to be met and many more, God will continue to decorate our lives supernaturally, thereby bringing more people into the kingdom – Mat. 6:6/9-10/33/ Zch. 8:20-23

Consequently, all through the month of June 2018, we shall be exploring from scriptures, the hidden forces behind the supernatural, which is key to actualizing this season of supernatural enthronement ordained for us, both as a Church and as individuals this year.

We should therefore expect new waves of manifestations of the supernatural in our lives this month, as we continue to engage in Kingdom Advancement Endeavours, thereby enhancing our level of command of the supernatural.

Therefore, the Prophetic focus for the month of June 2018 is:

THE SUPERNATURAL IS MY NEW REALM IN REDEMPTION – John 3:8

We must all get spiritually set for a launch into the realms of financial fortune, all through this new month.

Recommended books for the month authored by Bishop David Oyedepo include:

  • Walking in the Miraculous
  • Operating in the Supernatural
  • Releasing the Supernatural
  • Commanding the Supernatural
  • All you need to have all your Needs Met

Remain ever blessed.
Jesus is Lord!!!
