Topic: Testimony Begins with “Test” [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Tuesday May 29, 2018]

Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. — James 1:2

I’m sure you know people with amazing stories of the way God has worked in their lives. I always love to hear a great testimony, but I also know that behind every extraordinary account of someone’s life lies some kind of challenge or difficulty. No one ever has a testimony without a test.

We must pass all kinds of tests as we go through our lives, and passing them is part of never giving up. It’s vital for us to understand the important role that tests and trials play in our lives, because understanding them helps us endure them and actually be strengthened by them.

Everything God permits us to go through will ultimately be good for us—no matter how much it hurts, how unfair it is, or how difficult it is. When we encounter tests and trials, if we will embrace them and refuse to run from them, we will learn some lessons that will help us in the future and make us stronger.

One reason we must go through trials is to test our quality (see 1 Peter 4:12). Often, we find ourselves wishing we had the faith of Sister so-and-so or Brother so-and-so. I can assure you, if they have a strong and vibrant faith, they did not develop it easily. Just as muscles are strengthened through exercise, firm faith comes from the furnace of affliction.

Sometimes people say to me, “Oh, I wish I had the kind of ministry you have, Joyce.” Well, I did not get it by wishing. These people didn’t see when I was feeling I couldn’t hold on one more second, begging God to help me to not quit or give up. They don’t know the tests and trials I’ve faced along the way.

No one who does anything worthwhile for God has traveled an easy road. Doing great things for God requires character, and character is developed by passing life’s tests and staying faithful to Him through the trials.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for Your unconditional love. Help me to receive Your love and see myself the way You see me. Please allow Your love to flow to me and through me to other people. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

MESSAGE:

God has a purpose for every dream He gives. There are basic, secondary and ultimate reasons for dreams. The basic reason for dreams could be to tell you what is about to happen. Also it could be to warn His people of impending danger. Unfortunately, God’s purpose for giving certain dreams may be frustrated. This is because recipients hardly take them seriously or don’t believe in dreams at all. Some do not even bother to seek for clarity of coded dreams.
Another basic reason for dreams could be to communicate with those who cannot hear God audibly. God uses dreams to communicate with a number of people who are not inclined to hearing Him speak to them audibly. God could also give a man a dream on behalf of someone else to warn, encourage, pray for or strengthen that person. How have you been handling your dreams? Ask God to grant you understanding of your dreams.

Prayer Point: Lord I ask that you speak to me more often.

Topic: Don’t Hesitate [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Tuesday May 29, 2018]

He that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. – James 1:6-8

What happens when you hesitate to do something God has told you to do? Your adversary takes the first step. The devil gets the jump on you.

If you want to live by faith, hesitation is one of the most hazardous habits you could ever have. It comes from being indecisive. The Bible says a man like that is “unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything he thinks, feels, decides” (The Amplified Bible).

If you are double-minded, the decisions you make are split. You try to live by faith and protect your fear at the same time. You make faith statements like “I believe God is going to heal me.” Then your fear whispers, “But I wouldn’t want to say I’m well just yet.” You’re so busy going back and forth between faith and fear, you can’t make any progress at all.

Kick the habit of hesitation today. Make a solid decision to trust in and act on the Word of God. Settle it forever. Resolve never to entertain doubts again. When doubt comes to your mind, cast it out quickly.

When God speaks, don’t waste a moment. Step right out in faith. That way, you can always keep the devil a step behind you!

Luke 9:23, “And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

Text: Matthew 16:16-26; Mark 8:30-37; Luke 9:21-27

Self-denial is an important part of the Christian life. Jesus sacrificed His life for us and He demands that we die to ourselves that we might experience the new life He has provided. We do this first by recognizing that we can’t save ourselves by our own effort and, second, by trusting God – not self – for salvation. Then daily, we need to deny our own wisdom and seek God’s wisdom and direction for our lives.

Self-denial is only good when we are denying ourselves for the singular purpose of exalting Jesus and His will for us in some area of our life. Some have made a religion out of self-denial and find pleasure in their denial – not in Jesus’lordship. This leads to legalism and bondage, which Paul condemned as will worship (Col. 2:23). We are told not only to deny ourselves, but to “deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Jesus.”

The cross is what Jesus died on. There are circumstances in our lives which, like the cross of Jesus, give us the opportunity to die to ourselves each day. These are not things like sickness, poverty, etc., for which Jesus’ atonement provided redemption, but rather things like persecution (which we are not redeemed from) and the constant battle between our flesh and our born again spirit. The cross that we must bear is to take God’s Word (which is His will) and exalt it above our own will in each situation every day.

When I was seven years old, my father bought me my first bicycle. I had never ridden one. Patiently, my family and friends tried to teach me the art of cycling. I soon found out there was one thing I must do if I was to stay on the bicycle—keep moving forward. If I ceased to go forward, I would fall and hurt myself. So it is in the Christian life. We can never live this life on the highest plane unless we are continually growing and moving forward. You should be closer to God today in heart, soul, and body, than at any other time so far in your life.

Prayer for the day: Lord, I have progressed far too slowly in my pilgrim walk with You. Might I be drawn closer to the light of Your love and grace.

Topic: Enjoy His Grace [TREM Devotional Tuesday May 29, 2018]

“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:24

You can’t keep yourself. If you look at yourself, you will see faults. God says, but I know how to cover your faults, to preserve you as if you have no faults. When you check the Bible, you will never find Jesus telling people, confess your sins first. He understood that if they can only receive Him genuinely, and His love flows in and through them, then every other thing will follow suit.

To the thief on the cross, Jesus said, “Today you will be with Me in paradise.” He didn’t say go and do restitution, straighten yourself first or go back home. Did you offend anyone? Did anyone offend you? Go and sort it out! If you did not forgive, go and forgive. To the woman caught in adultery in John 8:11, He said, “… neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more.” To Zacchaeus, who everyone was afraid of; who was terrorizing the entire Jericho, He said to him, “… today, I must abide at your house”. He never told him to go and straighten up first.

Even the prodigal son was returning home because he was hungry. He said, “how many servants does my father have and now I’m here suffering. I’m going back to my father and I will tell him, I’ve sinned against heaven and before thee. Make me one of your hired servants.” The Bible said while he was still afar off, he had not said what he wanted to say; the father ran to him against the Jewish culture. You don’t run to a child that has disgraced you, messed you up and humiliated you. Yet he ran to him and embraced him. The son began to talk and before he could finish, the father said, bring forth the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet. My son that was lost has been found.

Child of God, He has loved you with an everlasting love. So, enjoy His grace.
