Southwark Cathedral to mark first London Bridge attack anniversary

The Service of Commemoration at 3pm on Sunday 3rd June will also be open to survivors of the vehicle-ramming and stabbing, and members of the emergency services who tended to casualties.

In a statement, the Diocese of Southwark said: “At the end of the service, the Bishop of Southwark, Rt Revd Christopher Chessun will bless an olive tree: ‘The Tree of Healing’ as a permanent memorial to those who died.

“This will be planted using compost made from flowers left on London Bridge after the attack.”

Eight people were killed and 48 others were injured on Saturday 3rd June 2017 when a van driven ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge.

Three men then got out the vehicle and launched a knife attack in the nearby Borough Market. The men – thought to have been inspired by Islamic State to carry out their attack – were later shot dead by police.

Visitors to Southwark Cathedral on the anniversary date will be invited to light a candle in remembrance of the attack or attend an 11am Eucharist service.

In the evening, the landmark will host an Iftar – a religious service where observers of Ramadan break their fast together – including testimonies from those who were affected physically and mentally by the attack.

The statement continued: “Later in the day, Southwark Cathedral will host its second Grand Iftar which, this year, will…

Don’t bully us over abortion, Christian MP in Northern Ireland says

Ian Paisley spoke after scores of MPs – including Government ministers – signalled their support for liberalising legislation, following an historic referendum in Ireland on the issue.

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) representative for North Antrim also said: “The settled will of the people has been to afford protections to the unborn life and protect the life of the mother.”

Sixty-six-per-cent of voters in the Republic of Ireland on Friday backed the repeal of an amendment to the constitution which outlaws abortion in all but exceptional circumstances.

While she congratulated the Irish people on their decision, the Prime Minister found herself under renewed pressure to ensure abortion laws in Northern Ireland were more in keeping with legislation governing the rest of the UK.

PA

Labour MP Stella Creasy said more than 140 parliamentarians had expressed support for a legislative intervention by Westminster, given the absence of a devolved government at Stormont since January last year.

The minister for women and equalities Penny Mordaunt said the Irish abortion vote represented a “historic and great day for Ireland” and a “hopeful one for Northern Ireland”. She added: “That hope must be met.”

But the Prime Minister’s fragile administration relies on support from ten DUP MPs who strongly oppose reform.

1 New Ebola Death Confirmed in Congo, Bringing Total to 12

Another person has died in Congo of a confirmed case of Ebola, bringing the number of fatalities from the latest outbreak to 12, the country’s health ministry said Sunday.

The death happened in Iboko, a rural area in northwestern Equateur province, the health ministry said in a statement. There are also four new suspected cases in the province, the statement reported.

Congo now has 35 confirmed Ebola cases.

Health workers have identified people who have been in contact with the patients in the confirmed Ebola cases in three areas in Equateur province, Iboko, rural Bikoro and Mbandaka, the provincial capital of 1.2 million that is a transport hub on the Congo River.

Congolese Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga flew by helicopter to Bikoro and Iboko on Saturday to see the deployment of health workers who will be tracing people who have been in contact with Ebola cases and inoculating them with a new experimental vaccine. The vaccination campaign in the two rural areas is set to begin Monday.

Representatives of the World Health Organization and UNICEF accompanied the health minister.

The vaccination campaign is already underway in Mbandaka, where four Ebola cases have been confirmed. About 100 health workers have been vaccinated there as front-line workers face high risk from the virus, which is spread via contact with the bodily fluids of those infected, including the dead.

The next few weeks are crucial in determining whether the outbreak announced in May can be brought under control, according to the World Health Organization. Complicating factors include its spread to a major…

Salvation Army elects new global leader

Commissioner Brian Peddle will officially assume the position in August, when he will succeed the current incumbent André Cox.

The Canadian told Premier the new role was “quite exciting on some fronts [but] among other fronts it’s quite intimidating”.

He explained: “To lead an international denomination that has also a significant social response footprint in 128 countries – that poses its own challenges.”

A meeting of The Salvation Army’s High Council elected Commissioner Peddle to become the movement’s 21st General during a summit in west London last week.

Setting out his plans for the Salvation Army, he said: “We need to continue to open ourselves to expansion in places and countries where we are not yet [present].

“We need to proclaim the Gospel clearly to the world.”

Commissioner Peddle is currently Chief of Staff for The Salvation Army’s international headquarters in central London.

He was formerly Chief Secretary for the movement in the UK and Ireland, before becoming the Territorial Commander in Canada and Bermuda in 2011.

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional Monday, 28 May 2018 – Fan Or Disciple?

TOPIC: Fan Or Disciple? (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Monday, 28 May 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 4:18-22

MEMORY VERSE:
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”- Matthew 16:26

The MESSAGE:
Are you a fan of Jesus or a disciple? There is a difference between a fan of Jesus and a follower (disciple) of Jesus. A fan is an admirer. There is little or no commitment, responsibility and accountability. However, it is important to understand what it means to be a follower or disciple of Jesus Christ. If you are a true follower of Jesus, then you have to be accountable to Him, and you have some responsibilities to discharge for Him. In the words of a famous leader, “the price of greatness is responsibility”. If Jesus Christ is truly the Lord of your life, you will do what He tells you to do. For some of us, Jesus is our Saviour, but He is not our Lord. One way to know Jesus’ disciple is that they follow His instructions. Fan don’t necessarily follow the instructions of their heroes and heroines.

Many football clubs have fans spread around the world. They wear their club’s jerseys and other mementos for identification. Some go to the stadium to cheer up their favourite club or players. Some pay fees to watch them on the screen. They jubilate and celebrate when their favourite player scores and when their darling club wins. They also exhibit pain and disappointment whenever their their team loses. However, one thing about the fans of a star player or famous club is that they can switch their allegiance at will. A supporter or fan of Chelsea Football Club can decide tomorrow to abandon Chelsea Football Club and become a supporter or fan of Barcelona Football Club. No strings attached. This is because the issue here is sports (a mundane affair). Spiritual things are much more important than that. A disciple of Jesus cannot turn away from the Master to follow man or go into the world. He is a soldier in an army and is expected to die as a soldier. His loyalty and allegiance to the Master must be unwavering and resolute.

Obedience, unquestioning and complete loyalty are hallmarks of Christ’s true disciples. These traits are non-negotiable. Jesus promised that everyone who has left all to follow Him will receive a hundred fold rewards here and will inherit everlasting life. The reason these blessings promised by Jesus are lacking in the lives of many Christians today, is that they are fans of Jesus by their thoughts, speeches and actions. They are not His disciples. Their lives are characterised by either partial obedience or outright disobedience. Their attitude is: “Lord, I will serve you as long as I can attend church programme on Sundays only. I will remain a Christian only if I don’t have to do evangelism or go to the mission field. I will serve you if I don’t have to stop drinking alcohol.” They give the Lord their terms and conditions. They want to serve Him the way they find convenient only. Such people are fans and not disciples. Beloved, the benefits of being Christ’s true follower are immeasurable. You were not saved to be His fan but His disciple. I pray that the Lord will help you to turn a new leaf today, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
The price of greatness is responsibility; are you willing to pay it?

PROPHETIC WORD:
Let the power to mount up with wings as eagles, fall upon you right now!

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. I receive the grace to be Christ’s true disciple, in the name of Jesus.
2. I will not take the grace of God in vain, in the name of Jesus.
3. Anything the enemy wants to use to take me away from Jesus, die, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. The power to forsake all and follow Jesus, fall upon me, in the name of Jesus.
5. O Lord, make me your loyal soldier, in the name of Jesus.
6. I receive the grace to obey the Lord completely, in Jesus’ name.
7. O Lord, help me to be a responsible and accountable disciple, in Jesus’ name.

Conservative & Leftist Head to Contentious Runoff in Colombia

The conservative protege of a powerful former president and a leftist former guerrilla who has galvanized voters with an anti-establishment message are headed for what promises to be a polarizing presidential runoff after gaining the most votes in Sunday’s election.

With almost all quick-count results in, former senator Ivan Duque was leading with 39 percent of the ballots cast, short of the 50 percent threshold needed to avoid a June runoff. One-time rebel and ex-Bogota mayor Gustavo Petro trailed in second place with 25 percent, edging out former Medellin Mayor Sergio Fajardo, who garnered nearly 24 percent.

Duque and Petro represent opposite ends of Colombia’s political spectrum and have presented dramatically different visions for the future of the Andean nation as it moves forward with a historic peace process with leftist rebels.

Duque is the handpicked candidate of Alvaro Uribe, the ex-president and chief critic of the nation’s 2016 peace deal with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. He is promising to amend important aspects of the accord like ensuring that drug trafficking is not an amnestied crime and blocking guerrilla leaders from political office.

Petro supports the accord and has galvanized youth voters angered by deeply entrenched corruption and income inequality. He is vowing to end Colombia’s dependence on oil exports and raise taxes on vast swaths of unproductive land in hopes of boosting agricultural production. Critics have warned his rise could push Colombia dangerously toward the left and rattle markets.

“The result was a sharp blow to…

UK Activist Tommy Robinson Arrested Outside Court, Jailed for 13 Months as Judge Orders Media Blackout

UK activist and English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson was arrested on Friday outside of Leeds Crown Court for reporting on a pedophile grooming trial. Within six hours of his arrest, Robinson was handed a 13 month prison term for violating a prior suspended sentence for a similar offense, while media outlets were banned from covering the incident by the court – with several removing reports which had already been published.

Footage shows Robinson, 35, being arrested while livestreaming to his Facebook page outside the courthouse. He can be heard shouting to a friend “Please, George, get me a solicitor, I’m on a suspended sentence, you see.”

“A big police van with about seven police officers pulled up and arrested [Robinson] and told him to stop live streaming,” Robinson’s producer told RT (before their article (archived) was scrubbed from the internet). “They said it was incitement and a breach of the peace.

“No peace has been breached – there were two other people there and he’s been perfectly quiet talking into his phone. [The police] said nothing about the court proceedings. It’s very strange.”

Disturbingly, the judge who sentenced Robinson, Geoffrey Marson QC, ordered an Orwellian media blackout – which resulted in several publications deleting their articles from the web covering Robinson’s arrest.

Robinson was admonished last year by Judge Heather Norton for filming outside a gang rape case in Canterbury, who slapped him with a three month suspended sentence on the condition that he cease his coverage of the trials.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 28 May 2018 Devotional — Dealing with Unresolved Issues

Topic: Dealing with Unresolved Issues [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Monday May 28, 2018]

Therefore know and understand today, and take it to your heart, that the Lord is God in the heavens above and on the earth below; there is no other. — Deuteronomy 4:39

We all have days when we feel more emotional than other days. This can happen for many reasons, but sometimes we feel emotional because something upset us the day before and we didn’t resolve it.

I remember a night when I was unable to sleep. Finally, around five in the morning, I asked God what was wrong with me. Immediately I recalled a situation from the day before in which I had been rude to someone. Instead of apologizing to them and asking God to forgive me, I rushed on to the next thing in my day.

Obviously, my conduct was irritating my spirit. As soon as I asked God to forgive me and made a decision to apologize to the person, I was able to go to sleep.

If you feel unusually sad or as if you are carrying a heavy burden, ask God what is wrong. And when He shows you, be grateful that you have a chance to make the situation right.

Prayer Starter: I thank You, Father, that You want me to live in peace. If there are any unresolved issues that are causing me to feel anxious or burdened, I ask You to show them to me and give me the strength and wisdom to resolve them. I thank You that You will be with me every step of the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Divine Vengeance For All Round Comfort – By David Ibiyeomie

Topic: Divine Vengeance For All Round Comfort

1 Cor.16:9 -For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.

Until vengeance is executed, the promise of God in the above scripture cannot be actualized. Pharaoh and the gods of Egypt resisted the children of Israel from leaving Egypt but God executed judgement on Pharaoh and the Egyptians and set His people free. Today, God will execute vengeance and judgement on every force of hell against your destiny in the name of Jesus!

Ex.12:12 -For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.

Until judgement is executed, there are pharaohs of life that will never let you go. It was after judgement that Israel was delivered from bondage. Will you fold your hands and watch the enemy destroy and mess up your destiny? You must stand up to clear him from your path so as to emerge a victor. You have a glorious destiny but you don’t fold your hands and wait for it to actualize.

Rom.8:30 -Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

The above scripture shows that you are expected to enjoy glory. Then, why has the glory not emerged? You are supposed to be a marvel to your world. Today, I decree that force holding you down will let go in the name of Jesus!

For your glory to emerge and your inheritance not to be tampered with, you have to call on the God Almighty; the one who vengeance belongs to. You don’t wait for vengeance; you have to provoke God to act on your behalf. When the God of vengeance takes over, the battle ends. He has never lost any battle and today, HE will fight in your favour! Your glory will emerge and your testimony will shake the world in the name of Jesus the Christ –Amen!

God bless you

You are the Builder of Your Home (Part 4) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: You are the Builder of Your Home (4)

Dear Reader,

It is wonderful to be able to share God’s Word with you once more in this column. I have shown you what to do to build a sweet home. I made you understand that you are the builder of your home and I gave you three vital ingredients for building a sweet home.

This week, I want to teach on Peace in the Home. If you look around, you will find out that peace is a scarce commodity in the world today. Many are searching for it with all their might. Peaceful homes are not wished for. They do not drop from heaven, but are carefully and consciously cultivated into being, by the parties involved.

There is a popular inscription found in most Christian homes, which says, “Christ is the head of this home, the unseen guest at every meal, the silent listener to every conversation.” Yet, a lot of such families don’t enjoy peace because, to them, Christ is only a picture and an inscription. He is not really the Head of their home. I have seen couples who are Christians, but who have never experienced a 24-hour peace in their homes. They desire a sweet home, but what they experience daily is sour home, where love never reigns. But I have good news for you. The Word of God says, …He is the Prince of Peace! (Isaiah 9:6).

When Jesus is given His rightful place in the home, absolute peace is guaranteed. So, let Jesus be the head of your home in truth and indeed. Believe His Word, receive His instructions and obey them, and perfect peace and joy will become a permanent thing in your home. Below is a testimony of how God restored peace to the home of this sister:

“I have been married for the past ten years, and ever since, there was no peace in the home. For me, marriage wasn’t good. Things were just upside down. I had a child in 1993 but he died. I also had series of miscarriages. I used to drive a car, but it was no more. It was as if everything came to a halt.

My husband started coming to Winners’ Chapel in January 1997. He didn’t ask me to come with him, because I was already attending another Pentecostal church. Yet, there was no peace in the home. The situation worsened, and in June 1997, the tension was so high that I said, ‘Lord, what will I do?’ I told my husband, ‘If this is what marriage is all about, let us call it quit.’ He replied, ‘Well, the door is wide open. You can go.’ It was then I sat down and did a rethink.

I came to Winners’ Chapel in June, and I began to hear the Bishop say, ‘I have been married for many years now, and there hasn’t been any concern or problem in my home.’ I said to myself, ‘Is it on this earth or another planet?’

But somehow, God has done it for me too! Now I know I had been the problem, not my husband. My husband is a perfect gentleman! The Bishop’s wife jokingly says, if there was anything as another life, she would still choose to marry her husband. I too can joyfully say the same thing today!” –Neburabo, R.

Let’s us look at one the enemies of peace in the home- Stubbornness: What does it mean to be stubborn? It means to be unwilling to change. In a nutshell, stubbornness means to be adamant, to be fixed in purpose and opinion, to refuse positive development. God hates someone who is stubborn. The Word of God says, Stubbornness is as an iniquity and Idolatry (1 Samuel15:23). In this scripture, stubbornness is equated with idolatry, and idolatry is a serious sin before God. It is as grievous as the adoration of graven images. So prune it away from your family life before it prunes you away from your home.

Stubbornness kills dreams. Saul’s kingdom was cut off from him because he refused correction. If it can destroy a whole kingdom; then, you need to prune it off your home before it robs you of a successful home. Imagine a man who makes up his mind to do something but refuses to be swayed by the pleading of his wife, even when her reasons are obviously in accordance with the Word of God. Watch such a man, he will end up in big trouble someday. The Word of God Say, He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy (Proverbs 29:1).

Stubbornness is an enemy of honour and dignity, so husband and wife who delight in stubborn acts will end up being stripped of honour. When someone breaks the hedge, anything evil can happen to him (Ecclesiastes 10:8). Wives our husbands are the heads of the home. We must be submissive to them. We must avoid conflicting decisions at home. Allow them to take the final decision as regards the progress of the home, so as to maintain peace in the home.

Note this: any woman who is strong-willed and unyielding is heading for disgrace and destruction. As a Christian mother, you must not allow the spirit of stubbornness to overshadow you. Be calm and articulate; calmness is not stupidity, but the cure of stubbornness.

However, if you are not born again, it will be difficult to maintain peace in your home. You need Jesus Christ to be committed and maintain commitment in marriage. If, peradventure, you are not born again and you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, then say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through [email protected], 07026385437 OR 08141320204.
