Only a fool would say to himself, ‘There is no God.’ And why does he say it? Because of his wicked heart, his dark and evil deeds. His life is corroded with sin. — Psalm 53:1 (TLB)

We live like a little ant on this little speck of dust out in space. We get a Ph.D. degree and we strut across the stage and say, “Well, I don’t know whether or not there is a God.” And we can’t even control ourselves. We can’t even keep from blowing ourselves apart. We can’t even keep from manufacturing nuclear weapons that could destroy the world. We can’t even keep from hating each other, and fighting with each other, and killing each other. We can’t even keep from stealing from each other. We can’t even keep from dying, because all of us are going to die. No wonder the Bible says, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God,” because a man that would deny the existence of God is a fool.

Prayer for the day: Almighty God, help me to live in such a way, that when I tell others of Your existence, they will be drawn to acknowledge and receive You.

Will Smith Shares Inspiring Lesson about God and Overcoming Fear


Actor and producer Will Smith only joined Instagram four months ago, but he is already making a big impact on the social media platform.


He recently used the analogy of skydiving to communicate with his 15 million followers about the nature of fear and how God often allows us to experience fear before we see the light at the end of the tunnel.


Smith shared about his recent experience skydiving. “Skydiving is a really interesting confront with fear,” he begins in the post.


He then goes on to explain the process of skydiving:


“So you get onto the airplane and you’re sitting there, you fly and you go up to 14,000 feet and the guy walks up [to the edge] and you’re looking down to death! Terror! They say on three … and you fall out of the airplane and in one second you realize that it’s the most blissful experience of your life.”


The lesson he learned from this exhilarating experience is that “God placed the best things in life on the other side of fear.”


“You realize at the point of maximum danger, is the point of minimum fear,” he added.


In a previous interview with The Christian Post, Smith shared that it was his grandmother who told him about faith.

Christian teacher warns about low number of men in early years education

His comments come as members of the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) warned that this could be depriving youngsters of having positive male role models.

Graham Coyle, a Christian teacher and member of the Christian Schools Trust told Premier why the issue is worrying.

Speaking during News Hour, he said: “However we view gender, I think we would all want to see balance in the education of children.

“If education is very heavily biased in one direction or the other, then that’s not balanced and that can’t be healthy.”

The NAHT is expected to call for action to encourage more men to work in the sector at their annual conference in Liverpool this weekend.

Delegates at the conference are due to debate a resolution urging the Government to “acknowledge the low numbers of men employed in the early years”.

It says: “We believe that this can restrict opportunities for all children to experience positive male role models and can prevent some children, especially those from deprived backgrounds, from fulfilling their educational potential.”

Highlighting the importance of male teachers, Coyle told Premier his advice to men that are working in early years education.

“They can personally do an excellent job. They can just be excellent teachers,” he said.

“I think they can also pray. I think through prayer God begins to open up all kinds of opportunities within classes and within individuals and situations.

15 Christians Murdered while Attending Church in Central African Republic


Fifteen Christians were gunned down while attending a church service in Bangui, Central African Republic on Tuesday, reports The Christian Post.


The Christians had been attending a worship service at Notre Dame de Fatima church when the attack occurred.


“Filled with panic, some Christians began to flee until bullets and grenades began to fall in the parish grounds, trapping those who remained in the compound,” recalled Moses Aliou, one of the priests at the church at the time of the attack. Another priest, identified as Albert Toungoumale Baba, was one of the 15 killed when the gunmen opened fire.


The gunmen responsible for the attack have yet to be identified. The Christian Post also reports that the Central African Republic is in the middle of a civil war and there has been unrest and even violent clashes between CAR’s army and the Muslim PK5 community.


This is also not the first time the Notre Dame de Fatima church has been the target of an attack. In 2014, over a dozen people, also including a priest, were killed there.


“Once again it is the civilian population, especially women and children, who pay the price of violence,” said Najat Rochdi, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator for the CAR in a telling statement.

Church criticises German state’s cross display law

The bylaw pushed through by Markus Söder, the Bavarian state premier, requires government buildings to display a cross in their entrance from next month.

Cardinal Reinhard Marx, head of the German Bishops’ Conference, told the Süddeutsche Zeitung that Mr Söder had not discussed the law change with him and warned against “instrumentalising” the Christian symbol.

 

“This has caused unrest and is pitting people against each other,” Cardinal Marx said.

Mr Söder said in a statement that the cross “stands for elemental values such as charity, human dignity and tolerance”.

He added that crosses should not be seen as religious symbols but as a “clear avowal of our Bavarian identity and Christian values”.

Roman Catholic and evangelical Christian leaders have also said they are concerned the cross is being used by the ruling Christian Social Union as nothing more than a political tool to garner votes ahead of October’s election amid fears of a rise of the far right.

The order could still be challenged in the courts for breaching the German constitution’s insistence of equal treatment of religions.

Ruins of Ancient Church Discovered in Syria, in Territory Formerly under ISIS Control


The ancient ruins of what is thought to be a Christian refuge or early church was discovered in Manbij, Syria, according to reports.


The ruins were found in territory that was previously under ISIS control after the group invaded the city in 2014.


Abdulwahab Sheko, head of the Exploration Committee at the Ruins Council in Manbij, had been studying the area and ruins. He said ISIS did not notice the area and dumped garbage on the empty mound of land near the ruins.


In 2016, after the Syrian Democratic Forces drove ISIS from Manbij, Sheko revealed his find.


“I was so excited. I can’t describe it. I was holding everything in my hands,” Sheko said of the discovery.


Crosses etched into the columns and walls mark the underground ruins. There are writings in the stone, and it’s thought that it was a place where persecuted Christians under the Roman Empire may have met.


“This place is so special. Here is where I think the security guard would stand at the gate watching for any movement outside,” Sheko said as he led reporters through the “first location” of the site. “He could warn the others to exit through the other passage if they needed to flee.”


American archaeologist John Wineland said this week on Fox News that the find could be helpful in understanding the lives of Christians living in the Roman Empire.

Gunmen armed with grenades targeted Notre-Dame de Fatima Church on the border of the predominantly Muslim PK 5 area where 21 people were killed during clashes last month.

Witnesses said churchgoers were forced to escape through a hole made in the church wall by police.

 

“Filled with panic, some Christians began to flee until bullets and grenades began to fall in the parish grounds, trapping those who remained in the compound,” Moses Aliou, a priest at the church, told Reuters.

CAR has faced several years of both ethnic and religious conflict since 2013 when mainly Muslim Seleka rebels ousted President Francois Bozize.

Retaliation killings are common occurrences, spear-headed largely from Christian communities, and Muslim “self-defence” groups.

This isn’t the first time the church has been attacked.

In 2014 gunmen with grenades killed a priest and some worshippers.

Chris Hodges, founder and leader of Church of the Highlands, Alabama’s largest church, announced Sunday that he has teamed up with leaders in the city of Birmingham to help fight crime in one of the city’s most violent neighborhoods through a new innovative church plant to be launched this fall.

“Not too long ago I met with the Birmingham mayor, the new Mayor, Randall Woodfin. What a delightful time I had with him. … The first thing I said to him, ‘Mayor, I have absolutely no agenda. I just want to hear your vision for Birmingham.’ He goes, ‘Are you kidding me? No one ever asks me that.’ I said, ‘I’m asking you.’ And I’m gonna tell you, he shared with me, [in] just one of the most impassioned ways, his love for our city,” Hodges, whose church is headquartered in Birmingham, said during his sermon.

Hodges said Woodfin discussed 99 distinct communities in the Birmingham area and singled out four that he was deeply concerned about.

The CLC’s role in the case will be looked into after criticism of the group. 

The main criticisms have been toward Mr Pavel Stroilov, who wrote a letter to Alfie’s father, Tom Evans, saying it would be legal for him to take his son out of the hospital. 

In the court’s notes they say: “The father had a letter written to him by Mr Pavel Stroilov of the Christian Legal Centre which, we were told, is a campaigning organisation. In the letter Mr Stroilov, who we have been told is not a lawyer, purported to give the father legal advice. He said that it would be lawful for the father to remove Alfie from the hospital and take him to any other place he chose.”

They go on to say: “is letter was misleading to the extent of giving the father false advice. We have been told that it had the most regrettable consequences in that it led to a confrontation in which Alfie was involved. The Police had to be called.”

The CLC released a statement last Friday, before the Solicitors Regulation Authority was made aware of the critcism but after some initial concern regarding their involvement: “The Christian Legal Centre…has only been assisting Mr Evans and Ms James for less than a month. Many of the important court hearings happened before this time.”

The multi-millionaire has been criticised for saying in an interview that 400 years of slavery in America “sounds like a choice”.

He made the comments to entertainment website TMZ, where he was interrupted by a staff member who accused him of an “absence of thought”.

 

Responding to the comments, David Westlake, CEO of International Justice Mission told Premier News Hour slavery is never a choice.

“The only people who had a choice in the 400 years of slavery are the people who captured and sold slaves. They were exercising a choice to profit from other people’s misery.

“It raises an issue which is how people get into slavery. Slavery is a brutal violent crime. There is no choice involved.

“It’s a shock for people to know that there are more slaves now than there were during the transatlantic slave trade.”

 

Westlake said the biggest element of modern day slavery is bonded labour, in which people borrow a small amount of money and are then trapped in debt bondage.
