A devastating tornado hit southwest Virginia last week and the communities are working to rebuild. In the midst of the destruction, a teen led a worship service, proclaiming God’s goodness even through trials.

. reports that the recent tornado destroyed many homes and businesses in the small town of Elon, Virginia, north of Lynchburg. Thankfully, there was no loss of life.

“The homes on Nottaway, Saponi and Mattoponi drive are filled with the finest people that you can ever know,” said Leecy Fink, who, along with her husband and five children lost their home to the tornado. “These parents and children are good to the core. They love their families; they love their neighbors like family; they love Jesus. Each family, I have heard, gave Him the credit for what we lived through … Thank you, God, for protecting my family, my people. We will rebuild. We will rebuild stronger. We will rebuild together.”

As the community began rebuilding, 17-year-old Tre Tyree stood amidst the rubble with a guitar and sang “Praise You in This Storm.”

The parents of Alfie Evans, the little boy who has a rare neurodegenerative disorder have made a last desperate effort to save their son, but to no avail.

As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported, Alfie’s parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, have been fighting a losing legal battle to either continue their son’s medical care in the UK or to take him to Italy where he has been welcomed by a Vatican hospital and doctors who are willing to try experimental treatments.

A UK High Court judge already denied Alfie’s parents’ request. On Monday, Alfie was taken off of his ventilator. Amazingly, however, Alfie survived, although even after this miracle, doctors waited hours before putting him back on life support and giving him water and food.

Alfie’s doctors and the UK High Court claim that keeping Alfie on life support is only prolonging his “inhumane” suffering, but his parents believe he is a fighter and that they should be able to try other treatments.

Alfie’s case has drawn the attention both of those who are advocates for the pro-life cause, as well as those who see it as a case of parental rights. People from Italy to Poland to the US and around the world are rallying to save him.

An executive with a Lutheran publishing house says Google will no longer allow ads related to the publisher’s site “because of the faith we express.”

Bruce Kintz, CEO of Concordia Publishing House, said on his Facebook page this week that the organization was told that Google’s online ad service will not accept the CPH website because of some religious items on the page.

“[A CPH staff member] was told, as an example, that things like our bible challenge on our VBS webpage would clearly need to come down before they could consider us for ads,” Kintz said.

A Google spokesperson told The Christian Post that Google “welcomes advertising from religiously-affiliated institutions, including Christian organizations.”

The spokesperson said Google does have policies in place that “protect user privacy.” The policy restricts how advertisers can use data to personalize ads for users.

“We prohibit advertisers from using sensitive data such as race, religious affiliation, political affiliation or sexual orientation to show ads to users,” a statement from Google reads.

“Advertisers can’t use identity and belief categories to target ads to users or to promote advertisers’ products or services,” according to the policy.

A statue made to look like a homeless Jesus has been set on display on a park bench in Manchester, UK.

Relevant Magazine reports that the statue’s creator hopes it will raise awareness of the plight of the homeless and cause people to reflect on how Jesus cared for those in need.

The bronze statue looks like any homeless person until you look closer and see the nail marks on his feet, giving the fist clue that this statue is actually meant to depict Jesus.

The statue was created by Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz and was unveiled outside St. Ann’s Church fittingly by two homeless men. The statue was also blessed by the Bishop of Manchester.

The city of Manchester is reportedly dealing with a homeless crisis. Churches are leading the way to help those in need by providing shelter and other necessities.

Bishop David Walker, the chair of the Manchester Homeless Partnership, commented on the biblical mandate of caring for the poor:

“Jesus is very explicit in the Bible; when we offer or refuse to care to those in need, we will be judged as though he himself were the needy person before us. This sculpture casts Christ’s words into metal. It links them directly to one of the most visible expressions of human need.”
