Open Heavens Devotional 2nd April 2018 Monday — Enemy Within The Household

Topic: Enemy Within The Household [Open Heavens 2 April 2018, Monday]

Memorise: “And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.” – Matthew 10:36 (Scroll down for Open Heavens Hymn)

Read: Judges 15:9-15 (KJV)

9 Then the Philistines went up, and pitched in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.

10 And the men of Judah said, Why are ye come up against us? And they answered, To bind Samson are we come up, to do to him as he hath done to us.

11 Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? what is this that thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.

12 And they said unto him, We are come down to bind thee, that we may deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said unto them, Swear unto me, that ye will not fall upon me yourselves.

13 And they spake unto him, saying, No; but we will bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand: but surely we will not kill thee. And they bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the rock.

14 And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.

15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.

Bible in One Year: Deuteronomy 31-32, Philippians 4:2-23

MESSAGE:

The story of Samson in our Bible reading shows the reality of the words of the Lord Jesus Christ in today’s memory verse. Samson had dealt a devastating physical and economic blow against the Philistines, and so seeking revenge, they laid siege on the town he was in. the Israelites asked why the siege and the Philistines told them how Samson had killed so many of them. To save their own necks, they struck an agreement that would see the Israelites bind and hand Samson over to the Philistines! One lesson here is that the damage which external enemies cannot inflict would be an easy task for the enemies within. The men of Judah decided to hand Samson, their kinsman, over to his enemies. Another lesson here is that while all the planning and bargaining to bind Samson was going on, God said nothing. However, as soon as these plans were carried out, God arose for Samson. When God arose, Samson’s enemies were divinely defeated with the jaw bone of an ass. You can see here that the feeble nature of a weapon does not matter when God is at war. I prophesy to you today: the Almighty God will arise and scatter all enemies of His plan and purpose for your life that are within your household in Jesus’ Name.

The enemy within your household may not always be human but could come in other forms, such as generational sickness that has claimed precious lives in your lineage. Today is the end of that sickness in Jesus’ Name. It might be a successive chain of poverty that has been transferred from one generation to another; that chain is broken today in Jesus’ Name. It could also be barrenness or failed marriages, but because you are representing God in your family, that enemy within your household is destroyed today in Jesus’ Name. However, my advice is that after these household enemies have been destroyed, keep worshipping God so that they do not resurface. Most of the time, these enemies are spiritual entities that relocate from dangerous zones where God’s children are. Here is what the Lord says about this in Matthew 12:43-45:

43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. …”

Beloved, ensure you are a child of God who is given to the intense worship of God alone. You will live to see the end of all enemies within your household who have connived to hand you over to external enemies. You will triumph over them all in Jesus’ Name.

Action Point: Bind the operations and powers of all enemies within your household in Jesus’ Name.

Hymn 14: Onward Christian Soldier

1. Onward Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before.
Christ, the royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See, His banners go!

Chorus:
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus,
Going on before.

2. At the name of Jesus
Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise:
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!

3. Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God:
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided,
All one Body we—
One in faith and Spirit,
One charity.

4. Onward, then, ye people!
Join our happy throng;
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song.
Glory, laud and honour
Unto Christ, the King;
This through countless ages
Men and angels sing.

2 Key Pieces of Evidence Outside the Bible Proving Jesus’ Resurrection

(Photo: Robert Jeffress Twitter video screencap)Pastor Robert Jeffress speaking at First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, on May 15, 2016.

Ahead of Easter Sunday, Robert Jeffress, senior pastor of First Baptist Dallas, shared two key pieces of evidence found outside the Bible for the literal, historical accuracy of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Jeffress told The Christian Post that his Easter Sunday message, “The Resurrection: Foolish, Fake News or Fact?” will use extra biblical sources to make a case for the resurrection of Christ and will hopefully appeal to skeptics who doubt reality of life after death.

“Easter fell on April’s Fools day, and I thought it would be interesting to try to combine the two in a message,” he told CP. “We’re gonna be looking at evidence outside of the Bible for whether Christ really arose from the dead.”

The author and Fox News contributor said that one point he will make in his sermon is that the early acceptance of Christianity — and especially the resurrection —…

Dame Sarah Mullally says amid terror sorrow we saw ‘the very best of humanity’

In a column, Dame Sarah Mullally, who will officially be installed as the new Bishop of London on 12th May, said building lasting communities ‘which demonstrate our commonality and build resilience’ would be the real test of a permanent tribute to those who have experienced the suffering from terror attacks.

She wrote that despite all the violence and pain of the last year, there were glimmers of hope in the way people responded. She said: “amid all this sorrow, we saw acts of generosity which reflected the very best of humanity.”

She praised the contributions of “healthcare workers, first responders, police, neighbours, the public, faith leaders and many more”, particularly how they “came together to show the resilience of our communities in the face of terrorists.”

Rt Rev Sarah, currently Bishop of Crediton said all the atrocities of the past year should encourage us to build strong communities. To do this, she said: “requires us to understand we have more in common than divides us.”

She ended with the gospel’s relevance to this message: “This week, Christians have been retelling the narrative of Jesus’ death. We recall what God did in the death and resurrection of Christ in the past, which points us to a future without pain and death but holds us here and now – that is hope.”

Gary Habermas Questions Why Atheists Believe in Alexander the Great, but Not Jesus’ Resurrection

(Photo: The Christian Post/Napp Nazworth)Gary Habermas, distinguished research professor and chair of the Department of Philosophy and Theology at Liberty University and visiting professor at Southern Evangelical Seminary, presenting on “Jesus’ Resurrection for Skeptics,” at the Southern Evangelical Seminary’s 21st Annual National Conference on Christian Apologetics, Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 10, 2014.

A Liberty University professor and Christian apologetics expert has said there are plenty of reasons to believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a real historical event, noting that some atheists question it despite not doubting accounts that go further back, such as the life of Alexander the Great.

“We’re not pulling any strings, we’re not doing anything goofy; the same kind of history that tells you George Washington was the first president of the United States is the same history that says Jesus was raised from the dead,” Gary Habermas said at an Engage Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on March 3.

He explained that one of the main topics he explores is not so much the supernatural question behind God raising Jesus from the dead, but some of the observable facts, such as “was there a man named Jesus, did He die, and afterwords was He seen?”

Habermas argued that…

Christian Aid condemns deaths on Good Friday in Gaza

17 died and Palestinian health officials said more than 750 people were hit by live rounds, making it the bloodiest day in the Palestinian territory of Gaza since the 2014 cross-border war between Israel and Hamas.

Israel’s Brig Gen Ronen Manelis, the chief army spokesman, denied allegations of excessive use of force, saying those killed by Israeli troops were men between the ages of 18 and 30 who were involved in violence and belonged to militant factions

Christian Aid partner organisation Adalah (the Legal Center for Arab Minority rights in Israel) has raised concerns that the Israeli military’s use of snipers against unarmed Palestinian civilian protesters in Gaza is illegal.

Christian Aid’s Head of Middle East Policy, William Bell, has just returned from Gaza. He said: “Live gunfire on unarmed civilians constitutes a violation of the international legal obligation to distinguish between civilians and combatants. Israel is obligated to act in accordance with international law.

“Having just returned from Gaza and witnessed the fast deteriorating situation, I despair at the level of international indifference. Does Israel really believe that turning their guns on demonstrators is the answer? This issue will never go away until equality, equity, humanity and dignity are the norm for all.

He said: “For Israelis and Palestinians to be truly secure,…

Quarter of Scots think Christianity is shown too little respect

A third of Scots believe Islam receives too much respect, while a quarter think too little is shown to Christianity, according to an Easter Sunday poll for The Sunday Times.

The survey also suggests the number of Roman Catholics in the country receiving abuse may have been significantly underestimated.

A total of 33% of respondents said Islam gets too much respect and 15% said it is not respected enough, while 11% think Judaism is respected too much and 19% believe it is not.

Anas Sarwar, the Labour MSP who has received threats on social media and by email, told the newspaper: “Sadly at times it seems that our society is becoming less tolerant and more divided. We should respect people of all faiths and none.

“There is clearly a lot more work to do to build a society free of all forms of prejudice and hate.

“We can’t leave the fight against sexism, homophobia, racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, anti-Catholicism and all other forms of prejudice to individual communities. It must be a fight for all of us.”

Although Islamophobia has been condemned by Christian campaigners, some believe secularists have driven Christianity to the fringes of society and fear Christian victims of religious prejudice are not given as much attention.

Sir John Curtice, professor of politics at Strathclyde university, told the newspaper there is little evidence of hostility to the role of…

Pray for East Williamson Baptist Church

Location: Williamson, West Virginia

Pastor: Caleb Horne

Weekly Worship: 11:00 AM, Eastern

Fast Facts: East Williamson Baptist Church is on the verge of changing and growing. Pastor Horne is approaching his first anniversary, and the church is trying new things to better reach young families on Sunday mornings. One such attempt is a partnership with the ministry Animal Tales to bring live animals to Williamson. Many of the children have never been to a zoo nor would they have the opportunity. On May 2, EWBC is partnering with the chamber of commerce to host a free animal show in the hopes it will fill the church with community members they can continue reaching this summer with VBS and with TeamKid in the Fall. Please be in prayer for this event as well as the church’s finances.
