Action Team star vows to never swear again because of faith

Kayode Ewumi, who became a global meme after his online series #HoodDocumentary, said he was happy to act in the new action comedy because he wouldn’t have to swear.

In an interview with The British Blacklist he explained how he got the role to play Huxley.

“I like Huxley, he’s not killing people, he hasn’t got a knife in his hand. He’s tryna do good in the world, even though he may ask silly questions there’s room for growth.

“Partly to do with my faith, I don’t like to swear in my work…and that’s something that [the casting director] respected. They just allowed me to make it my own. I went for the read through and then I got it.”

BBC Three

While Ewumi’s character in #HoodDocumentary – that was picked up by BBC Three – had scenes where he swore, he said his faith had since evolved.

“I wasn’t that serious in my walk as I am now. I was still getting to know God. Post Hood Doc, and Fire in the Booth I made the conscious decision that I don’t want to swear in my work.

“I also think when it comes to sex and swearing it’s an easy way out, it can be used too much I’m not saying people who swear are wrong, it’s part of life cool, I just think ‘how can I tell a story without swearing?’ Is it needed?”

Asked if he would ever change his mind if the ‘ultimate role offer’ came his way, he said: “I’ve got one of the best agents in the…

Former Co-op Boss and Methodist Minister banned from financial services

Mr Flowers was chair of Co-op Bank between 2010 and 2013, overseeing its near collapse after revealing a £1.5 billion black hole in its accounts.

He was forced to step down amid allegations he bought and used illegal drugs, as well as claiming inappropriate expenses.

The Financial Conduct Authority said on Tuesday that Mr Flowers’ conduct demonstrated a “lack of fitness and propriety” required to work in financial services.

Mr Flowers demonstrated an “unwillingness to comply” with its and other legal, regulatory and professional requirements and standards, the FCA said.

Its probe showed that Mr Flowers used his work mobile telephone to make “a number of inappropriate telephone calls to a premium rate chat line”, in breach of Co-op Group and Co-op Bank policies.

In addition, he used his work email account to send and receive “sexually explicit and otherwise inappropriate messages, and to discuss illegal drugs”, the FCA added, despite having been previously warned about his earlier misconduct.

In a damning statement, the watchdog said it believes Mr Flowers’ disregard for the standards he is expected to meet demonstrates a “lack of integrity” and that any future involvement by Mr Flowers in the financial services industry risks “undermining consumer and market confidence”.

Mark Steward, executive director of enforcement and market oversight, said: “Mr Flowers failed in his duty to lead by example and to meet the high standards of integrity and probity…

Geneva Motor Show Expected To Showcase Tesla Competitors

TeslaA Tesla Model S, similar to pictured here, was used to set a new record for the longest distance traveled in an electric vehicle using a single charge.

For years, Tesla has been the household name when it comes to electric vehicles. However, many car manufacturers are catching up and are using auto shows like the Geneva Motor Show to unveil their new EVs that can rival those from the Elon Musk-led company.

While there was a time when EVs were reserved for hipsters and treehuggers, they are now becoming the norm and established automakers are beginning to take notice. Alongside supercars and luxury cars, this year’s Motor Show is set to feature a number of electric entries.

German automakers Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi are all expected to unveil their latest EV concepts at the show. However, their presentations are vastly different in that while some have actual cars on display others are offering just concepts.

Audi chose to be the former making its all-electric E-Tron not just present in the event, but also available for on show grounds for a few test rides. Being the first dedicated electric vehicle from the Volkswagen group, the car will serve as a precursor to future electric Audi models.

Volkswagen on the other hand, will be presenting a concept of its all-electric, self-driving model, the I.D. Vizzion. The vehicle will offer truly hands-free driving having no dedicated spot for a “driver.” Other than that however, everything is still a mystery although the company might divulge more details during the event itself.

Mercedes, on the other hand, has been remarkably…

A description of grace your soul needs today

We live in a culture that separates everyone into two categories: winners and losers.

There were twenty-four winners in Sunday night’s Academy Awards. Conversely, there were ninety-eight losers.

But at least they received nominations. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are 249,607 actors and other professionals in the motion picture and video production industry; almost all were excluded from the Oscars.

And yet, each of them is a winner in a way. They have a job in the film industry, unlike the multitudes who would like to work in the movies but don’t.

Meanwhile, odds are being calculated for college basketball’s “March Madness” tournament. As baseball’s spring training continues, analysts are debating who is likely to win this year’s World Series.

The underlying message is clear: if you win, you’re a winner; if you lose, you’re a loser.

“The smell of rain is grace”

Frederick Buechner is one of the most perceptive theologians I know. Consider his description of “grace,” a brief essay so insightful that it defies editing:

“After centuries of handling and mishandling, most religious words have become so shopworn nobody’s much interested anymore. Not so with grace, for some reason. Mysteriously, even derivatives like gracious and graceful still have some of the bloom left.

“Grace is something you can never get but only be given. There’s no way to earn it or deserve it or bring it about any more than you can deserve the taste of raspberries and cream or earn good looks or bring about your own birth.

“A good sleep is grace and so are good dreams. Most tears are grace. The smell of rain is grace. Somebody loving you is grace. Loving somebody is grace. Have you ever tried to love somebody?

“A crucial eccentricity of the Christian faith is the assertion that people are saved by grace. There’s nothing you have to do. There’s nothing you have to do. There’s nothing you have to do.

“The grace of…

Film Prequel ‘Inside Eden’s Gate’ Out Now

Steam/Ubisoft“Far Cry 5” takes players to the Hope County in Montana, which has been taken over to a fanatical doomsday cult known as Eden’s Gate and its cult leader Joseph Seed, along with his siblings, the Heralds.

“Far Cry 5” releases a 30-minute film prequel to the first-person shooter video game releasing later this month.

Ubisoft released “Far Cry 5: Inside Eden’s Gate” via Amazon Prime as an introduction to the upcoming fifth instalment to the action-packed franchise.

The 30-minute short film features three vloggers as they venture into the lair of the Eden’s Gate cult as a feature for a documentary series.

Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips who already saw the film, said it was “not bad” and is a good prequel of what is to be expected in the game.

“Far Cry 5” follows main villain Joseph Seed, a deranged yet charismatic cult leader who has the followers of Eden’s Gate on a tight hold. Seed is said to be an exaggerated version of political figures in modern times. The player’s role would be to liberate the residents of Hope County, Montana from the cult’s religious fanatics.

According to creative director Dan Hay, the game’s U.S. location was intentional and meant to push a few buttons. “I think people will project a whole bunch of narratives onto the story and they will because this is what we do, we’re storytellers and we want to take the meaning of that,” he told GameSpot. He clarified, however, that the story is still more of a personal journey, one that Seed shares with a lot of people who feel alone.

As for gameplay, Ubisoft representatives earlier revealed that “Far Cry 5” will not have…

SpaceX Confirms Activation Of South Texas Launch Site For 2018

Reuters/ Gene BlevinsSpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket launches from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California back in 2017

SpaceX is looking to activate its South Texas launch facilities as early as 2018. This was confirmed by the company’s Senior Communications Manager James Gleeson who revealed that the site will be operational as soon as it’s ready.

“We are currently targeting late 2018 for the site in South Texas to be operational but we’re reviewing our progress and will turn the site online as soon as it’s ready,” Gleeson told Teslarati.

This coincides with earlier statements made by company President Gwynne Shotwell suggesting that everything is going smoothly. However, operational doesn’t necessarily mean that the facility will be able to support orbital launches.

As it stands, the facility in Boca Chica can support tests for the Mars Colonial Transport also known as the BFS. There are also currently no plans to manufacture BFS rockets in the region although that might change in the coming years.

SpaceX is reportedly planning to expand beyond just launching rockets with its South Texas facility. This is according to Texas State Rep. René Oliveira who said that the private space firm is envisioning a superfacility in Boca Chica.

“We have received tentative commitments that they plan on launching in 2019,” Oliveira said on Thursday. “Whether they will be doing the refurbishing and all of that by then, I don’t know. We are not privy to all of the details and the timing.”

The company originally planned a single launch pad back in January and planned to carry out launches this year. However,…

Facebook apologises over Christian satire website the Babylon Bee censor threat

The Babylon Bee was threatened with reduced exposure on the social media website, and the right to generate income on its articles shared on Facebook withdrawn.

In a statement seen by The Daily Caller News Foundation, Facebook said: “There’s a difference between false news and satire.

“This was a mistake and should not have been rated false in our system.

“It’s since been corrected and won’t count against the domain in any way.”

The Babylon Bee was reported by the fact-checking website Snopes earlier this month over an article entitled ‘Did CNN Purchase an Industrial-Sized Washing Machine to Spin News?’.

Appearing somewhat sympathetic to the Babylon Bee, Snopes said: “Although it should have been obvious that the Babylon Bee piece was just a spoof of the ongoing political brouhaha over alleged news media “bias” and “fake news,” some readers missed that aspect of the article and interpreted it literally.

“But the site’s footer gives away the Babylon Bee’s nature by describing it as ‘Your Trusted Source For Christian News Satire’, and the site has been responsible for a number of other (usually religious-themed) spoofs that have been mistaken for real news articles.”

The Babylon Bee’s founder, Adam Ford shared on his Twitter account a message he received when Facebook which read: “The…

What to Do if Your Church Does Not Pay You Adequately

Podcast Episode #412

SUBSCRIBE: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn RadioGoogle Play • iHeart Radio

Pastors often face financial pressure because salaries depend on giving of the church. If giving drops, salaries can be in jeopardy. Today we look at what to do when that happens.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • High-paid pastors are the outliers. Most are underpaid.
  • In most instances, salaries should not exceed 50% of the church budget.
  • Pastors, get an advocate to go to bat for you about salary matters.
  • Churches, never talk about compensation packages, just talk about salary.

The six points to consider are:

  1. Make certain you have your facts right
  2. Look at the entire budget of the church
  3. Make certain key leaders understand the difference between package and pay
  4. Consider the possibility of marketplace service or side gigs
  5. Find an advocate in the church
  6. Don’t leave over pay unless you have exhausted other options

Can Christians Be Demon-Possessed? Theologians Answer

Expand | Collapse

Born-again Christians, filled with the Holy Spirit, cannot be possessed by demons, theologians have argued.

One of those theologians is Stephen Wellum, professor of Christian Theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

“My answer to that would probably be no,” Wellum said in a recent video, responding to whether Christians today can be possessed in ways similar to the accounts described in the gospels.

“To be demon-possessed would mean one is outside of Christ,” he explained.

“When you think of Christian salvation, it is depicted in Scripture as a transfer. It is a transfer from being in Adam, and the entire age controlled by sin and death and the devil, and being transferred into Christ. In Christ we are no longer dead in transgressions and sins, we are born of the Spirit, we have new life, we are forgiven of our sins, we are joined to the Savior, we have the power of the Savior,” he stated.

Wellum affirmed that “Satan is real, demons are real, in our sin they can greatly influence us and even contol us,” reminding viewers that in the Bible, Jesus casts out demons.

He argued, however, that “to think of now in Christ those who are forgiven of sins and born of the Spirit and have new life as being possessed by an evil,…
