The March edition of Women, Church, World, the monthly women’s magazine of the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, highlighted that nuns cook and clean for senior Catholic clergy for next to no pay.

The expose on the underpaid labour and unappreciated intellect of religious sisters confirmed that the magazine is increasingly becoming the imprint of the Catholic Church’s #MeToo movement.

One lead article said of the nuns: “Some of them serve in the homes of bishops or cardinals, others work in the kitchens of church institutions or teach. Some of them, serving the men of the church, get up in the morning to make breakfast, and go to sleep after dinner is served, the house cleaned and the laundry washed and ironed.”

A nun, identified only as Sister Marie, describes how sisters serve clergy but “are rarely invited to sit at the tables they serve”.

While such servitude is common knowledge, it is remarkable that an official Vatican publication would dare put such words to paper and publicly denounce how the church systematically exploits its own nuns.

Women, Church, World began six years ago as a monthly insert in L’Osservatore Romano and is now a stand-alone magazine distributed for free online and alongside the printed newspaper in Italian, Spanish, French and English.

Dr Willie Parker, who practices at Mississippi’s sole abortion clinic, will speak at Mississippi State University (MSU) on Thursday to explain to students – using Scripture – why he’s “morally convinced” performing the procedures is morally acceptable.

“I believe that, as an abortion provider, I am doing God’s work,” Parker wrote in his new memoir, ‘Life’s Work’.

“I am protecting women’s rights, their human right to decide their futures for themselves, and to live their lives as they see fit.”

Hannah Loper, an MSU senior and former president of MSU Students for Life, told LifeSiteNews the university should give the pro-life side equal time, if it is going to use tax dollars to host an event on abortion.

Responding to the backlash the event received from pro-life groups, MSU has added a pro-life speaker to the schedule as well, according to the AP.

The event is being sponsored by MSU Students for Life and Catholic Campus Ministry.

Several pro-life groups, including the American Family Association and Pro-Life Mississippi, have planned a rally to protest at Parker’s appearance.

Most Rev John Davies, Archbishop of Wales, was supposed to preach at the service, calling on civic leaders from across Wales to follow the example of St David.

Archbishop John was expected to give the address at St John the Baptist Church in Cardiff.

However, a mini-service led by Canon Sarah Rowland Jones will be held instead for anyone who turns up.

Speaking of the importance of marking St David’s Day, Archbishop John said in a statement, “St David founded communities where people worked, with whatever resources they had, to create trusting, supporting and lasting relationships in which everyone felt secure, supported and valued.

“It took ongoing hard work and a deal of self-discipline but he was, I believe, a model we would do well to emulate in our own communities today where some feel less than valued, vulnerable and insecure.”

President Donald Trump said his father was an admirer of Mr Graham’s and that the “legendary” American figure deserved to be recognised in the place “where the memory of the American people is enshrined”.

House speaker Paul Ryan said: “Here lies America’s pastor,” gesturing to Mr Graham’s casket under the eye of the dome, surrounded by family, friends, politicians and a ring of paintings of the nation’s founders.

“He ministered to all walks, from some of the greats whose statues line this hall – Eisenhower, King, Ford, and Reagan_to the everyday citizens lining up today to pay their respects.”
