Syria deaths ‘a grievous offence to our common humanity’

Doctors in Syria’s rebel-controlled suburbs of Damascus have said they cannot keep up with the number of casualties, amid shelling by government forces.

The bombing campaign has targeted hospitals, apartment blocks and other civilian sites, killing and wounding hundreds of people in recent days.

The bombardment has forced many among the nearly 400,000 residents to sleep in basements and makeshift shelters, and has overwhelmed rescue workers who have spent days digging out survivors from the wreckage of bombed buildings.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate suspension of “all war activities” in the rebel-held Damascus suburbs known as eastern Ghouta where he said 400,000 people are living “in hell on earth”.

The UN chief said a suspension of fighting must allow for humanitarian aid to reach all in need and the evacuation of some 700 people needing urgent medical treatment.

Bishop Declan Lang, Chair of the Bishops’ Conference Department for International Affairs, has called the killing of civilians in Eastern Ghouta a “grievous offence to our common humanity”.

He said: “Their suffering underscores how over seven…

Televangelist Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church will host its third annual medical missions conference on Friday and Saturday to help bridge the gap between the thousands of doctors in the Houston area with missionary organizations that need help serving God’s vulnerable children around the world.

The Medical Mobile Missions Conference (also known as the M3 Conference) will feature as many as 75 missionary organizations and will have about 50 to 60 active mission hospitals worldwide represented who are all looking for more doctors, nurses and support staff.

Dr. Paul Osteen, the event’s organizer and a surgeon who spends about four months a year serving in missions hospitals across the globe, told The Christian Post that he expects as many as 1,500 people to attend this year’s conference.

Osteen, the brother of the famous televangelist, explained that the inspiration for the conference came a few years ago when he was working in a missions hospital in Zambia.

“A Zambian doctor told me, ‘Paul, do you realize that you are the only qualified surgeon in an area…

EU says Christian woman’s release will determine future trade with Pakistan

Asia Bibi was sentenced to death for blasphemy in 2010, accused of insulting the Islamic prophet Muhammad, something she denies. She appealed the sentence but the hearing was postponed and she has been in prison ever since.

Jan Figel, the EU’s special envoy for freedom of religion outside the EU, has told Pakistan that the renewal of their export privileges will be dependent on the freedom of Asia Bibi.

Pakistan currently have ‘Generalised System of Preferences (GPS) status’, meaning Pakistani products have duty-free access to the EU market with either no tariffs or preferential levies.

They have had this since 2013 and the prime minister of Pakistan at the time, Nawaz Sharif, said: “gaining access to European markets was the top most priority of the government”.

However, the EU said the result of Bibi’s appeal, which is pending in the Supreme Court and could result in her being sentenced to hanging, will determine the continuity of this trade deal.

It said in a statement: “The cessation of GSP plus status will cause a severe blow to the sinking economy of the country and will not be able to compete with local competitors like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.”

Kathie Lee Gifford remembers Billy Graham, preaches Jesus on TV

Kathie Lee Gifford is one of the most outspoken Christians in media today. She was also a close personal friend of Dr. Billy Graham. In fact, she and her entire family came to faith in Christ through his ministry.

Those who know her were not surprised when she was interviewed yesterday on Megyn Kelly Today and began preaching the gospel boldly and joyfully. She explained that she has “the cure for the malignancy of the soul, and he has a name, and it’s Jesus.” Dr. Graham would be so pleased that she used his home-going to lead people to his Savior.

How can we follow her example?

“My eyes stung with tears”

Billy Graham became a Christian in 1934 at a Mordecai Ham revival. That same year, his father hosted a prayer meeting at the family farm. One of the participants, a man named Vernon Patterson, prayed that “out of Charlotte the Lord would raise up someone to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth.”

Fast-forward twelve years. Graham was thirty and already a well-known evangelist when he came to a crisis of faith. Could he believe the Bible to be the word of God? His friend Chuck Templeton and others were raising doubts in his heart. In his autobiography, Just As I Am, he tells the story of what happened next.

He took a walk in the moonlight of the San Bernardino Mountains in California. He dropped to his knees in the woods, opened his Bible and put it on a tree stump before him. He prayed, “O God! There are many things in this book I do not understand. There are many problems with it for which I have no solution. There are many seeming contradictions. There are some areas in it that do not seem to correlate with modern science. I can’t answer some of the philosophical and psychological questions Chuck and others are raising.”

Finally he was able to say, “Father, I am going to accept this as Thy Word-by faith! I’m going to allow faith to go beyond my intellectual questions and doubts, and I will believe this to be Your…

Funeral details for Rev Billy Graham released

The service, which Donald Trump and a number of former US presidents are being invited to attend will take place in Charlotte, where Rev Graham was born.

His son Franklin will lead the eulogy and Rev Graham’s four other children will also pay tribute to their father.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) held a press conference on Wednesday evening at the Billy Graham headquarters in Charlotte to announce details of funeral plans and to talk about Rev Graham’s final moments.

Family spokesman Mark DeMoss announced that the preacher’s funeral service will be held on 2nd March at 12 pm.

It will take place near The Billy Graham Library in Charlotte in a tent, a tribute to Rev Graham’s first crusade in Los Angeles in 1949.

DeMoss said Rev Graham died in his sleep on Wednesday morning, and though no family members were present, his death was peaceful.

“It was described by nurse and doctor as a very peaceful passing,” he said.

“He was not in any pain, and he wouldn’t have suffered any.”

Rev Graham’s body was taken to Morris Funeral Home in Asheville on Wednesday and will be moved to Charlotte via motorcade on Saturday.

Death Is A Pleasant Experience, Claims Woman Who Died Temporarily

REUTERS/Sage Center for the Study of the Mind, University of California, Santa Barbara/HandoutAn undated image of the human brain taken through scanning technology. It has been discovered that the brain cells continue to function even if a person has already died, which can be the reason why some people describe seeing light and other images after a near-death experience.

While many dread the idea of dying, a woman who claims to have experienced near-death experience has shared that death is actually a pleasant experience.

In an article written on Near Death Experience Research Foundation (NDERF) website, a woman who hides by the name Judie narrates that she temporarily died while experiencing labor pains. This came after the anesthesiologist injected the epidural and “accidentally put it into a vein,” causing her blood pressure to drop drastically.

As her heartbeat stopped temporarily, Judie reveals in her article that she was completely aware of the happenings around her even as she drifted into the world of the unknown, which she describes as a descending curtain of light.

“I could see where I had to go. I remember how surreal it was to realize how dark our world is. I’m not sure how to describe this but I could see the world. I was as if a veil had been lifted that…
