Christmas advert that forgot Christ in Top 10 most complained about TV ads

The advert shows three children being told they would have a traditional Christmas – with long conversations, singing carols and sitting by the fire.

The parents then reveal they are joking and proceed to all bundle into the living room to watch the brand new TV their Mum has been allowed to test by her employer, Curry’s, and they enjoy a family sit-down.

The Advertising Standards Agency said: “Complainants believed the ad was offensive because it promoted materialism and equated Christmas with watching TV instead of Christianity.”

The advert received 131 complaints.

The ASA did not uphold the complaints and added that: “We thought the ad was light-hearted and was meant to be humorous. We understood the allusions to consumerism might be perceived to be in bad taste by some, but considered it was unlikely to cause serious offence. The ad did not ridicule or denigrate Christians or Christianity, so was unlikely to offend on those grounds.

The top most complained about advert was a KFC advert featuring dancing chickens with 755 complaints on the grounds that it was distressing for vegetarians.

New Microsoft Patents Suggest Possible Surface Phone Features

REUTERS/Dado RuvicA man is seen against a video screen with the Microsoft logo in the background as he poses with a Nokia Lumia 820 smartphone in this photo illustration taken in the central Bosnian town of Zenica September 3, 2013. Rumors claim that the next Windows Phone will be called a Surface Phone, which is rumored to be a foldable device.

A newly discovered Microsoft patent hints at the long-rumored Surface Phone, or at least a next-generation Surface device.

According to Let’s Go Digital, Microsoft filed a patent for an upgraded standard of Near-Field Communication (NFC), which makes it difficult for eavesdroppers to tap into exchanges between two devices. This type of radio communication works only between devices that are in very close proximity, just like Bluetooth and WiFi.

What the tech giant applied for, however, is much stricter. The Secure Near-Field Communication (SNFC) encodes all transmitted data with a hidden key, which could only be decoded by the intended recipient’s device. This hidden key is usually a random set of codes, used once and then discarded, so that a third party will not have a chance to use it later on.

The report said the patent was filed back in January 2017 and published on Jan. 30, 2018.

There is, if course, no confirmation that this would be a part of the highly rumored Surface Phone, or if that device would materialize at all.

According to Digital Trends though, Microsoft also recently filed another patent that has been the topic of many Surface Phone rumors in the past — a live hinge.

The hinge works three ways. It allows one of the screens to be…

Trailer released for ‘The Heretic’ film about Rob Bell

The film, made by Andrew Morgan, follows the American author and former pastor who has been heavily criticised for suggesting Heaven is open to all, challenging the traditional view of Hell and saying that humanity has twisted Jesus’ words.

In the trailer for aptly-named film, ‘The Heretic’, Rob Bell says: “When I kept going to the Jesus teachings, it took me beyond religion to what does it mean to be human? And I actually think Jesus would be absolutely mortified somebody started a religion in his name.”

The evangelist Franklin Graham has in the past called Bell a ‘false preacher’ and ‘heretic’

The movie claims to be a story showing his confrontation of “long held conservative ideals shaping American Christianity” and follows him on various tours and public speeches.

Wycliffe receive 600 requests for new Bible translations

Last year, they helped finish New Testament translations in 104 languages.

But the CEO, Bruce Smith, said in a statement: “As miraculous as 2017 has been, I am praying 2018 will be even more astonishing,”

Smith explained in a statement how they’ve managed to progress global access to God’s Word: “New strategies, methods, tools, and resources are empowering the local church and Christians to translate God’s Word into more languages than at any time in world history.”

He added: “Our MAST [Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation] strategy is building momentum. Word is spreading. Even people living in areas of intense persecution, violence, or danger, now have hope.”

Wycliffe developed a strategy in 2014 called MAST (Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation) which speeds up the process of translation from what was years, to months or even weeks.

The ‘MAST’ strategy involves running translation workshops worldwide and accuracy-checking processes as well as providing technology such as tablets which not only have translation software but also mean groups can translate discretely where they are not allowed.

Speaking of how these have directly helped the spread of God’s Word, Smith said: “They’re pleading for our innovative technology so they can translate God’s Word for themselves.”

“What was impossible has become possible.”

 Wycliffe…

Christian marriage group respond to civil partnerships being made available to heterosexual couples

Although the latter of those proposals has been widely commended, Coalition for Marriage Chairman, Colin Hart says: “Extending civil partnerships to unmarried couples will profoundly undermine marriage. It will be seen as a low commitment form of the institution – a sort of marriage lite.”

The proposals would also mean traditionally-married couples would not be given a marriage certificate on the day and there would be an electronic register instead of an official one in churches.

Colin Hart added in a statement: “While denying couples a marriage certificate on their happy day does nothing to modernise the institution of marriage, or support husbands and wives, it just seems mean spirited. “

Speaking of how extension of civil partnerships still only helps couples, he commented: “This scheme will do nothing to solve the real cases of hardship amongst family members such as two sisters who live together for company and to share the bills.”

However, many Christians favour the move as they say it leaves traditional marriage for those who to want to honour God with their union, whilst non-religious couples would no longer have to pretend to in traditional services.

Civil Partnerships provide legal and financial protection in the case of a split and don’t necessarily come with any religious connotations.

The law, proposed by Tim Loughton MP, is being reviewed by…

Christian charity aims to reach 10,000 widows and orphans to mark 20th anniversary

This would mean nearly doubling their reach over the whole of the last 20 years, to mark their anniversary.

Since 1998, African Child Trust (ACT) have helped 6,500 across eight African countries including Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Congo Democratic Republic and Nigeria.

ACT Founder and Director Dr Kunle Onabolu told Premier they “provide education for children of widows and orphans in Africa, but also to empower widows who are poor in rural African community, to provide them with counselling, training and business skills so they generate income sustainably.”

Speaking of what motivates him, Onabolu said: “the verses in Psalm 68 verse 5 where God declares he is the father of the fatherless, the defender of the widows, the Lord will in his holy dwelling keep the lonely people in family – and this is what ACT have been doing for the past 20 years.”

“We have expanded our work from just one country to 8 countries in Africa and we have supported well over 6000 children and widows within that period of time.”

Onabolu added that they will work “extra hard and use all the resources we can muster” to reach their aim.

Their plan involves a project in Malawi to keep teenage girls in school, when more than 50% of girls aged 18 are married, having children or have already had children and have therefore dropped out of school.

Onabolu…

Teens’ Open Heavens 3 February 2018 by Pastor Adeboye – The Catalyst

Teens’ Open Heavens 3 February 2018 by Pastor Adeboye - The Catalyst

Topic: The Catalyst [Teens’ Open Heavens Saturday 3rd, February 2018]

Memorise: In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,Titus 2:7

Read: Titus 2:7-8 (KJV)

7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

Bible In One Year: Exodus 31-33, Matthew 22:23-46

MESSAGE:

We learnt yesterday that there are two sides to every coin. So also, there are two kinds of people in every group; those that make thing work and those that don’t.

Those whose presence in a group brings about progress for that group are called catalyst. Are you a catalyst?

One major characteristics of catalyst is that they are not lazy. They also don’t see impossibilities, rather they are always thinking of how to make things happen. A catalyst is a team player; they get everyone involved in the work and help everyone become better at their given task. People love to be around catalysts because catalysts help to achieve success.

Are you hard-working? Are you pleasant to be around? Do you make great things happen amongst your friends? Do you help other people achieve success? Do you see the good in others and help them to grow? Be honest with yourself, if the answers to these questions is no, then you should start making conscious effort to becoming a catalyst.

Action Point: Look around you for a godly person with the characteristics of a catalyst and begin emulating them from today.

Hymn 1:

1. My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!

2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm and changeless be
A living fire !

3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Saviour, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!

Daily Devotional for Teen’s guide was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of the largest evangelical church in the world and also the President of Christ the Redeemer’s Ministries.

Our Daily Manna February 3, 2018: ODM devotional — Maize Grain: Be Balanced!

Our Daily Manna February 3, 2018: ODM devotional — Maize Grain: Be Balanced!

Topic — Maize Grain: Be Balanced! [Our Daily Manna ODM Saturday, February 3rd, 2018]

Basic Scripture: Acts 20:22-32

The Maize season will soon come in Africa. This wonderful grain with horsetail at its tip and comes in three colors-cream, orange and purple, is an accurate testimony that mankind is blessed with several gift of mercy from God. Maize has become a staple food in many parts of the world, with total production surpassing that of wheat or rice. However, not all maize is consumed directly by humans. Some of the maize production is sued for corn ethanol, animal feed and other maize products, such as cornstarch and corn syrup. The six major types of corn are dent corn, flint corn, pod corn, popcorn, flour corn, and sweet corn.

According to studies, corn cultivation was first introduced in South America from Mexico more than 6000 years ago. Maize spread to the rest of the world because of its ability to grow in diverse climates. It was cultivated in Spain just a few decades after Columbus’ voyages and then spread to Italy, West Africa and elsewhere. One other product of corn is starch used in the pharmaceutical and baking industries and as a hardening agent in the textile industry.

As a Pharmacist, I know that corn syrup, another food product, is used as a sweetener in children medicines, soft drinks, ice cream, and processed foods. This crop is a wonderful source of a balanced diet (60-62% starch; 9-10% Protein, 3-4% Oil and 1.2-1.6% Sugar). But do you know that as wonderful, rich and balanced a diet as corn is, it is only limited to feeding the outward man, which is destined to decay?

The Holy Ghost is using today’s devotional to challenge you and your family to a new hunger for the CORN OF THE SPIRIT which is the Word of God, and praying in the Holy Ghost. In this year 2018, if your pastor is not giving you a balanced diet, dig for it yourself! Don’t leave it that church! Financial and Material Prosperity with Holiness is your portion, but in Acts 20:27 and 32, Paul spoke about declaring ALL THE COUNSEL OF GOD. This is the balanced diet of the Word for the spirit man and that should be your strong pursuit daily in this year 2018!

Hearing messages of only PROSERITY or only HOLINESSS or only DELIVERANCE can lead you to disgrace at last! Remember the maize grain! Stay balanced this year!

Sow your FIRSTFRUIT as led to your church or into any account on page 29 of this booklet and get back to me on [email protected] or text +234 802-342-1513; +234-807-314-6863 for STRATEGIC FIRSTFRUIT PRAYERS!

Prayer Points: Take Song 4: Tis so sweet………..

1. Finish your Bible this year! Refuse to be lazy this year concerning personal study of the Word of God. I shall eat a balanced diet for my soul. Use “The Bible-In1-year” plan at the back of this booklet daily this year.

2. Pray about today seriously as led. Pray Psalm 45.
