VP Pence Says U.S. Embassy Will be Moved to Jerusalem ‘Before the End of the Year’

VP Pence Says U.S. Embassy Will be Moved to Jerusalem ‘Before the End of the Year’

Jerusalem will have a United States embassy in the city “before the end of the year,” Vice President Mike Pence told Israel’s Knesset.

“By finally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the United States has chosen fact over fiction, and fact is the only true foundation for a just and lasting peace,” Pence told Israeli parliamentarians.

In his speech to Israel’s Knesset, Pence also encouraged Palestinians to reconsider negotiations.

“Peace can only come through dialogue,” he said.

He also said aid was forthcoming for persecuted Christians in Israel.

“For the first time we are providing direct support to Christian and religious minorities as they rebuild their communities after years of repression and war,” he said.

Pence’s words weren’t well received by everyone, however. Arab members of the Knesset boycotted the vice president’s speech.

“We recognize that peace will require compromise, but you can be confident the one thing the United States of America will never compromise is the safety and security of Israel. Any peace agreement must preserve Israel’s ability to defend itself by itself,” he said.

Pence also said that the U.S. would not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.

“We are your friends,” he said. “And the day is coming when you will be free from the evil regime that suffocates your dreams and buries your…

Church to keep ‘grotesque’ artwork despite congregation complaints

The painting, depicting the Abbess of Romsey – Ethelflaeda – from the year 1000 shows her by a candle holding a Bible.

The painting by Chris Gollon cost £6,000 but parishioners say it is a distraction from prayer.

The Daily Mail reports that congregation members found it “grotesque”, “ugly” and “dark and disturbing”.

The image of Ethelflaeda, a nun in the 10th century, was created for an exhibition in 2016 and now hangs on panels on the walls of the abbey.

According to the Telegraph, those who object say it does not “enhance or beautify the Abbey in any way” and that it is “anatomically impossible”.

Romsey Abbey says the artwork is staying but declined to comment further to Premier.

Author of Books on Presidents’ Faith Says Trump Misunderstands Evangelicals

Author of Books on Presidents’ Faith Says Trump Misunderstands Evangelicals

Author Stephen Mansfield, who has written about the faith of former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, says the current occupant of the Oval Office has captured the “fundamental gripes” of evangelicals but misunderstands just how divided they are these days.

As President Trump completes his first year in the White House, Mansfield has written a book, “Choosing Donald Trump,” about how the chief executive’s faith and relationships with religious leaders helped him get where he is today.

Mansfield identifies Trump’s “spiritual father” as Norman Vincent Peale, a mid-20th-century preacher who popularized the notion of “positive thinking” and whose Marble Collegiate Church in New York the president used to attend. And the author says Florida prosperity gospel preacher Paula White, who gave the invocation at Trump’s inauguration, is the president’s “unofficial chaplain.”

Mansfield, an evangelical himself and former pastor who previously wrote “The Faith of Barack Obama” and “The Faith of George W. Bush,” spoke with RNS about the newest president’s religious trajectory.

The interview has been edited for length and clarity.

You’ve written about the faith of George W. Bush and of Barack Obama. Why isn’t this book called “The Faith of Donald Trump”?

Because the other two had faith lives that had…

Fostering’s ‘not like Annie’, but ‘fulfilling’, says Christian foster parent

Dr Krish Kandiah, founder of Home for Good, told Premier fostering is not like how films portray it to be.

“We don’t want people to go in with rose tinted glasses about it, like it’s going to be just like Despicable Me or Anne of Green Gables or Annie…that the children have no ongoing challenges and it isn’t going to be hard,” he said.

“On the other side, I think it’s been the most fulfilling thing our family has done.”

Kandiah, who’s been a foster parent for eleven years, urged people to think about fostering after a new You Gov survey found that nearly half of people don’t foster because they don’t think they will get support.

However, foster charity Barnados, said 8 in 10 carers are happy with the level of support and advice they receive from its fostering service, while Kandiah said a lot of support is available, and churches can be a big help too.

“We’ve needed around 7,000 to 9,000 new foster families a year across the UK for some time,” he said.

“We need them so children who are brothers and sisters can be placed together, we need them so children don’t have to commute too far and so they can stay in the same school where they’ve still got friends and a social network.

“Our church has been a lifeline, whether that’s meals people have provided, support to us and babysitting. There’s brilliant ways churches can offer tangible support for people that do…

NY Mets Invite Tim Tebow to Spring Training: Is He One Step Closer to MLB Career?

NY Mets Invite Tim Tebow to Spring Training: Is He One Step Closer to MLB Career?

Christian athlete Tim Tebow will reportedly continue his baseball career. According to The Christian Post, Tebow has been invited to go with the New York Mets to spring training.

Last year Tebow played for Mets’ minor league affiliates the Columbia Fireflies and then the St. Lucie Mets. After leaving the NFL, he has kept busy as a sports broadcaster and also being involved in humanitarian work. He also recently spoke at the Passion Conference. Tebow hopes to find a career in Major League Baseball, and perhaps this year may be his best chance.

Last season Tebow had a .226 batting average, including eight home runs and 52 RBIs.

Although Tebow has perhaps exceeded expectations as far as his baseball ability, his ability alone is not the only reason Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson decided to sign him:

“We signed him because he is a good guy, partly because of his celebrity, partly because this is an entertainment business,” Alderson said.  “My attitude is ‘why not?'”

Fireflies President John Katz said Tebow has been a great addition to the team:

“His contributions, both on the field and in our community, have made a tremendous impact on our team, the City of Columbia and the entire South Atlantic League,” Katz said. “We wish Tim the best as he continues his journey to Citi Field.”

Asked whether he believers he will make it to the major leagues,…

Limbless Evangelist Nick Vujicic Blown Away by Museum of the Bible, Wants Nonbelievers to See It

(Screenshot: Facebook/Nick Vujicic)Evangelist Nick Vujicic at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. on January 20, 2018.

Evangelist Nick Vujicic said he was blown away by what he saw at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., and is urging everyone, including nonbelievers, to see what it has to offer.

“As an evangelist who has been able to go to 68 countries and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to millions of people, I tell you, I’ve never had an experience [like] seeing such enriching history, gaining knowledge, and appreciation of all the brothers and sisters who have gone before us, who have charged opposition and seen God’s will be done on earth,” Vujicic said in a Facebook video Saturday.

“Seeing the African-American church rise in America, and the history of the Jewish people, and seeing how the Old and New Testament come to life in such an incredible way, I’m telling you right now if I had arms and legs, I would not be able to feel my legs,” he joked.

“It’s a must see, it brings God’s word to life, and you will walk away in awe.”

The preacher, who was born without arms and legs, and has gone on to become an author and speaker whose speeches inspire millions around the world, said that he can’t even think of what to compare seeing the Museum of the Bible…

‘I cannot with integrity rescind my statement’ on Bishop George Bell

Last year he said there was a “significant cloud” left over George Bell’s name.

He was speaking after a damning report published last year found the Church of England “wrongfully and unnecessarily damaged” the reputation of the bishop by apologising to, and compensating, his alleged victim in 2015.

Following the Carlile report, Archbishop Justin stopped short of fully apologising for the Church’s response, and he pointed out that George Bell was “accused of great wickedness”.

He was then criticised by the academics, including Sir Ian Kershaw, of making “irresponsible and dangerous” comments and damaging for the office of the Archbishop.

Speaking for the first time since the criticism, Archbishop Justin said: “I cannot with integrity rescind my statement made after the publication of Lord Carlile’s review into how the Church handled the Bishop Bell case.

“I affirmed the extraordinary courage and achievement of Bishop Bell both before the war and during its course, while noting the Church has a duty to take seriously the allegation made against him.”

In the statement, he went on to say the Church is rightly facing increased scrutiny on the issue of abuse and the apology to the alleged victim came about following legal advice based on the civil standard of proof and the balance of probability.
