Bangladesh, India and Nepal – which all experienced major flooding in 2017 – could all be among the nations experiencing the greatest need, the charity warned.
It also flagged the displacement of Muslims from Myanmar, and the continuing civil war in Yemen as further major causes of concern, heading into 2018.
Explaining the scale of the need already existing in some areas, CEO Nigel Harris told Premier: “So of this is absolute visceral need.
“We need to feed people, we need to sustain life, we need to help those emergency situations by providing water [and] sanitation.”
2018 could be the worst year ever in terms of humanitarian need, according to the United Nations, which says 135 million people are currently in desperate need.
Tearfund also fears countries in the Sahel region of Africa – Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger – could require further assistance following low rainfall levels in 2017, while similar issues are affecting parts of Somalia.
It said the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo remain “incredibly vulnerable” due to political unrest and worsening violence, while Boko Haram remain a major source of concern in Nigeria.
The charity raised concern about unrest and fighting in South Sudan and Burundi, and it highlighted the need for support for families starting to return to Iraq.

A team of experts from Lancaster University accidentally found a potentially effective Alzheimer’s cure, while researching on a diabetes drug. The medication apparently reversed memory loss on the study’s test subjects.
The diabetes drug included a combination of GLP-1, GIP and Glucagon, otherwise called a triple receptor. Experts gave the medicine to its mice test subjects and then followed it up with maze tests.
The experts wanted to check if the diabetes drug could affect memory function negatively. Instead, the mice demonstrated improved memory and the experts also noticed a significant reduction in the plaque buildup and inflammation inside its brains that are usually common to those with Alzheimer’s.
“These very promising outcomes demonstrate the efficacy of these novel multiple receptor drugs that originally were developed to treat type 2 diabetes but have shown consistent neuroprotective effects in several studies,” lead researcher Christian Holscher stated. “Clinical studies with an older version of this drug type already showed very promising results in people with Alzheimer’s disease or with mood disorders.”
The discovery, however, is not a coincidence since experts believe that diabetes, specifically Type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s are linked. Further tests will still be undertaken to see the viability of the drug on humans since the research only studied its effects on mice.

Ten Commandment monuments erected in Alabama, Oklahoma and New Mexico have brought lawsuits and removals.
But when an 800-pound granite tablet engraved with “Thou shalts” and “Thou shalt nots” went up in a suburban Dallas shopping mall just before New Year’s, not a protester was in sight.
The difference, of course, is location, location, location. The controversial tablets were originally placed on public land, while the Texas tablets are in a privately owned shopping mall.
“We’re not trying to make a statement or create a controversy,” Richard Morton, general manager of the Music City Mall at Vista Ridge, told Texas reporters Friday(Dec. 29) as the block was unveiled. Instead, he said, the monument reflects the mall owner’s “belief system and he is not afraid to share it.”
The owner is John Bushman, a former Marine and businessman from Odessa, Texas, who has said he hopes people find “peace and love” in the Ten Commandments. A second granite tablet bearing two of what Bushman has called “the greatest commandments” — to love the Lord and thy neighbor — is on the second floor.
Several of Bushman’s other businesses, including hotels and casual dining restaurants in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico, have similar Ten Commandment displays. He has told Dallas media he wants the Music City Mall to be “a community space.”

They have carried out several surveys and listened to young people about how to reach a generation that don’t automatically go to church.

National Director of Youth for Christ, Neil O’Boyle, told Premier: “We’ve really nailed it down to the fact that God’s heart beats for young people and we’re about seeing young people’s lives changed by Jesus.”
When asked how we can bring Christianity to young people in 2018 he said: “We’re really exploring what it means to reach out to a digital generation and take the good news in an effective way but find a way to bring them into relational contact with the local church.”
O’Boyle added: “We’re really looking forward, we’re looking at how the landscape is changing in this country when it comes to mission and how we need to adapt to that and so we’re looking at making significant changes when it comes to our ministry and how we go about reaching young people effectively.”

It’s a brand new year for Apple fans which means a whole new batch of iPhones is on their way. One of these upcoming iPhones is reportedly the entry-level iPhone SE 2, destined for the mid-range smartphone market.
The original iPhone SE was introduced back in the spring of 2016 and was considered a success for Apple. Based on the iPhone 5, the device featured a 4-inch display and significantly less processing and camera power than the flagship model at the time.
With the iPhone X already covering the premium end of the market with its $999 price tag, it shouldn’t be surprising for the tech giant to go for the middle market next. However, the iPhone SE 2 will likely need an overhaul that goes beyond toning down a more recent iPhone model in order for it to be compelling in a highly competitive market.
The new entry-level iPhone will reportedly be manufactured by Apple’s Taiwanese supplier Wistron at its factory in Bangalore, India. Not much is known about the phone’s specs but it will feature the A10 Fusion processor, 2 GB RAM, and a 12-megapixel main camera with the battery power being raised from 1,640mAh to 1,700mAh. It will also come in 32 GB and 128 GB variants with no clear indication whether Apple will keep it’s 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Heather Mosher’s vows to Dave Mosher at Saint Francis Hospital in Connecticut were one of her last words on 22nd December, 2017.
The couple had originally planned their wedding 30th December 2017, but the bride-to-be’s triple-negative breast cancer was proving to be aggressive.
The ceremony in the hospital’s chapel was documented on Instagram by Heather’s best friend and bridesmaid, Christina Karas.
She said she knew those were Heather’s “final moments” and highlighted how God had helped Heather during the stage four cancer journey.
“The amount of strength her mom showed could only be possible because of her unwavering faith in God, despite the certainty she would lose her only daughter on this earth,” she said.
“Her outpouring of selfless love reminded me of Heather’s reaction to tragedy in other’s lives. Heather has shown me this same care when I was in a very dark and hopeless place.
“She learned this language of love from her family and was able to comfort others in this same way.”
Heather was told she had a lump in her breast on 26th December 2016, the same day she got engaged.
The Moshers’ original wedding date turned out to be the day of Heather’s funeral at Plantsville Congregational Church. The church was also where they had planned on having the wedding ceremony.

Ever since the advent of the iPhone, the candybar mobile phone design has become the only design suitable for smartphones. Microsoft hopes to change all that with its upcoming Surface Phone with its rumored 360-degree foldable design.
In a new teaser that appeared on the World Intellectual Property Organization’s website has increased the hopes of a comeback by Microsoft to the smartphone market. Even more exciting is the rumor that its first entry will break the current mold of which all smartphones have come from the candybar design.
In what can only be described as a call back to the days of Nokia’s dominance, the upcoming Surface Phone will reportedly feature a 360-degree rotating hinge in its design. This is according to a filed patent which revealed that the new design will allow the smartphone to carry a dual-display, in line with Microsoft’s existing notebook line.
Titled as “hinge with free-stop function,” the design hopes to solve the issues faced by smartphones that use a dual-display design. This includes an inability to accommodate thin displays and the trouble in switching to different displays.
The patent claims that the device’s 360-degree rotating design will solve this problem. By featuring at least one flexible mechanism that will follow a path which is shaped like the letter S, the first flexible connection member and the mirrored S-shape path of the second flexible connection member will create a cross configuration.
