EU Will Not Recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

EU Will Not Recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

President Trump and his administration have been taking steps to show their support for Israel, but the European Union is not following suit.

As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported, President Trump announced that the U.S. would recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and that the U.S. was working toward moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

EU leaders do not support Trump’s stance and action on Israel and rejected his announcement to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, according to The Times of Israel.

“EU leaders reiterate firm commitment to the two-state solution and, in this context, the EU position on Jerusalem remains unchanged,” EU President Donald Tusk tweeted after EU leaders from 28 countries discussed the matter at a summit in Brussels.

EU foreign policy leader Federica Mogherini has also warned that Trump’s decision could take Arab-Israeli tensions “backwards to even darker times.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem and move the U.S. Embassy. “I believe that all or most of the European countries will move their embassies to Jerusalem, recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and engage robustly with us for security, prosperity and peace,” he said.

But Mogherini said that Netanyahu should “keep his expectations for others.”

Evangelical Leaders John MacArthur, John Piper Pay Tribute to RC Sproul

(Screenshot: Ligonier Ministries)Reformed theologian and Ligonier Ministries founder Robert Charles Sproul speaks in this undated video.

Evangelical leaders, including John MacArthur of Grace Community Church of Sun Valley, California, and John Piper of DesiringGod.com, have expressed their respects for the life of influential theologian R. C. Sproul.

The author of over 90 books and founder of Ligonier Ministries, Sproul passed away Thursday afternoon due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 78.

MacArthur, who has been involved in Ligonier conferences alongside Sproul, stated Thursday on the website for Grace to You that he considered one of Sproul’s great characteristics to be “his refusal to shy away from difficult doctrines or shape his teaching to suit whatever might be popular or politically correct at any given moment.”

“He and I once had a vigorous public debate on the subject of infant baptism. He was as bold and candid with me as he would have been with any other adversary,” wrote MacArthur.

‘Everyone can help end loneliness,’ Christian campaigners say

A commission set up by MP Jo Cox before she was murdered said the UK needs a government-led national strategy to combat loneliness.

The final report of the Jo Cox Loneliness Commission noted that nine million adults in the UK are often or always lonely and that loneliness is as harmful to health as obesity or smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

The commission calls for a UK-wide strategy for loneliness across all ages, led by government “but built on the insight, expertise and capacity of many others including the NHS, voluntary and community sector and business”.

As part of this, the report says, a lead minister should be appointed to drive action on loneliness across government and be accountable to parliament.

Graham Steven, partnerships and communications manager at Glasgow City Mission, has championed the commission’s recommendations and urged people to get involved.

He told Premier: “Everybody has a responsibility to play.

“Governments can do so much. But all of us as individuals, as a church, as charities, as normal citizens… there are a lot of ways we can all play a part.

“It would be a danger for us to be complacent and see it as a job the Government has to sort out.”

He added that he’s noticed loneliness is a common thread behind issues such homelessness, addiction and mental health.

Steven said just having a cup to tea with someone and lending a listening ear can make a difference.

Pastor Saves President Trump from Poisonous Spider Bite

Pastor Saves President Trump from Poisonous Spider Bite

In a recent White House meeting in the Oval Office Pastor Mark Burns saved President Trump from a potential spider bite from a poisonous spider.

The Christian Post reports that a group of evangelicals had gathered in the Oval Office for a meeting with the President on December 11 when the incident occured.

Burns, the pastor of Harvest Praise and Worship Center in Easley, South Carolina, later posted a video, sharing how he saw a spider crawling up the President’s back during the meeting and knew he had to take action.

His instinct, he shares, was “kill the spider, protect Donald Trump.”

“I cannot stand spiders, I have always had a fear of spiders, but because it was the president of the United States of America, and I saw it running literally toward his neck,” he continued.

Burns ended up slapping Trump on the back to kill the spider. He said everyone in the room initially looked shocked, wondering what had just happened.

He then held the spider up for everyone to see and joked “I saved you, Mr. President. I deserve a medal.”

Burns also said Trump did not flinch despite the unexpected slap and was a good sport about it. After realizing what had happened, everyone laughed.

It turns out that the spider was a yellow sac spider which is poisonous and “has mild and local cytotoxic and neurotoxic effects,” according to VenomousSpiders.net.

Offensive vicar’s card flushed out

Fenwick has removed the cartoon image from its ten department stores across the country, saying it never meant to upset shoppers.

In a statement, spokesman Nigel Poulton said: “On reflection, this greeting card has been removed from display and de-listed.

“It is definitely not our intention to cause offence to any customers.”

The £1.99 card, which shows a clergyman looking into the pan of the toilet and shouting an expletive, was withdrawn after customers at the Fenwick branch in Canterbury complained.

Rev Simon Tillotson from All Saints Church in Whitstable, Kent told the Sun: “It’s beneath a shop like Fenwick to be selling a card like that.

“They’ve done the right thing removing it.”

One shopper told the newspaper: “A card featuring a vicar in such a situation might be amusing in the right context.

“But, frankly, it’s offensive in a family store”, he added, while another said: “It’s very bad taste, indeed”.

Christian Leaders Respond to Death of R. C. Sproul

Christian Leaders Respond to Death of R. C. Sproul

Yesterday, December 14, 2017, the world lost a man who faithfully followed God’s call and influenced the world for Christ in so many ways. Pastor, author, apologist, theologian, and founder of Ligonier Ministries R. C. Sproul had been hospitalized for a serious respiratory condition and went home to be with the Lord at the age of 78.

In the wake of Sproul’s passing, Christian leaders weighed in, paying tribute to this titan of Christian thought and sending condolences and prayers to his grieving family.

In a moving tribute piece, Al Mohler wrote, “R.C.’s voice was captivating. Honestly, I probably would have listened to him read the Farmer’s Almanac. But the power of his teaching was the vitality and virility of biblical Christianity, presented logically, forcefully, biblically, and passionately.

My own pilgrimage as a theologian cannot be traced without the indelible influence of R.C. Sproul. Had I never met him in the flesh, I would have been in his debt and gifted with his influence. By God’s grace, I came to know R.C. Sproul as a teacher, colleague, encourager, and friend.”

Pastor and author Jared C. Wilson tweeted:
