Greg Wood, a father of three and International Mission Board missionary who served a village of indigenous people in Mexico, has died from an aggressive brain cancer after a two-year struggle with the disease. He was 48.

An obituary for Wood said he died from the disease on Tuesday, Dec. 5, after being diagnosed in December 2015.

“After hearing the news that Greg had gone to be with the Lord, I received a message from one of his colleagues saying that Greg was the most loving, peacemaking, dedicated missionary he had ever worked with,” IMB President David Platt said in a release. “I praise God for His grace in Greg, his wife, Missy, and their incredible children. Greg’s life was spent for God’s glory in ways far beyond what we could ever measure in this world.”

Charles Clark, Affinity Group Leader for the American Peoples who worked with Wood, said: “Greg was unwavering in His love for the Lord, his family and for the unreached people of northern Mexico.

“In the midst of serving with his wife, Missy, and family in some of the most dangerous areas of Mexico, his passion and joy in sharing Jesus never…

Crash kills 11 Mexican Catholic pilgrims

The truck they were travelling on was involved in a crash between Puebla and Mexico City on Tuesday, which killed eleven of the travellers.

The group was among an estimated seven million people who went to celebrate the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, one of the top pilgrimage sites in Catholicism dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

A further 12 people were taken to hospital.

The basilica stands at a site where accounts published in both the indigenous language, Nahuatl, and Spanish in the 1600s claimed the Virgin Mary appeared five times to an indigenous man, Juan Diego in 1531.

It is believed she spoke to him in Nahuatl and told him that a church should be built in her honour at the top of the hill where there had once been an Aztec Temple honouring a goddess.

Quarterback Carson Wentz is Trusting God Despite Season-ending Injury

Quarterback Carson Wentz is Trusting God Despite Season-ending Injury

Carson Wentz, the star quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, isn’t letting a season-ending injury shake his faith.

“NFC East Champs! So proud of the resiliency of this team. Such a special group of men,” he tweeted this week.

“And I greatly appreciate all the prayers! I know my God is a powerful one with a perfect plan. Time to just lean in to him and trust whatever the circumstances! #Proverbs 3:5-6”

Wentz tore his ACL in a game this past weekend. This year, Wentz had thrown for more than 3,200 yards with 33 touchdowns. He had just seven interceptions and sports experts had said he was on his way to becoming MVP.

In a video posted to the Philadelphia Eagles Facebook page, Wentz said he was trusting in the Lord in the wake of the injury.

“I have a ton of faith in the Lord and in His plan, but at the end of the day it has still been a tough one,” Wentz said in the video.

“Maybe not all of you out there are Christians. But I can say with a hundred percent confidence as a follower of Jesus, I have the utmost confidence in His plan. His plan is perfect. If we got everything we wanted in life, it would be a disaster.  I know Jesus is up there, looking down. He knows what He is doing. I am going to surrender to that to Him and trust Him in that.”

Wentz also said he would continue to support the team as he recovers, and that he will be back…

A third of independent Christian schools aren’t good enough

The Annual Report by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills 2016/17 found that a third of independent Christian schools are inadequate or need improvement.

Clive Ireson, director of the Association of Christian Teachers, told Premier the schools should be given some time to adjust because it’s been two years since they’ve had to switch to Ofsted’s rules.

Prior to 2015, the schools were inspected by the Bridge Schools Inspectorate.

Ireson said: “They’ve got new standards.

“That’s not to say they don’t need to be good.

“We’re expecting something different from them and I’m sure they’ll get there in the fullness of time.”

Amanda Spielman, the chief executive of Ofsted said some faiths schools “seek to isolate young people from the mainstream, do not prepare them for life in Britain or, worse, and actively undermine fundamental British values”.

Ireson explained that Christian schools must learn to keep their “faith flavour” while still meeting requirements.

“The two shouldn’t be in conflict; we need to make sure they’re not,” he said.

“Teachers should be able to express their faith in these schools and that’s why their parents have chosen to send them there.

“But they need to make sure the children aren’t following an agenda that doesn’t fit the community, because we need community cohesion and we need to prevent radicalisation.”

Ireson admitted that he’s not sure that Ofsted always understands independent faith schools.

    Out of…

Three Dallas Cowboy Players Get Baptized in Viral Video

Three Dallas Cowboy Players Get Baptized in Viral Video

Three football players for the Dallas Cowboys were recently baptized in a video that went viral.

Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens, safety Kavon Frazier, and linebacker Justin March-Lillard were baptized as a profession of their faith by team chaplain Jonathan Evans.

The video has been viewed nearly two million times since Evans posted it on social media, according to SportsDay.

The three players were baptized in the team’s underwater treadmill pool.

Frazier said that he had been baptized as a child, but wanted to make this public profession of faith as an adult.

“We all decided we wanted to get baptized again,” Frazier said. “I got baptized when I was younger. My mom made me get baptized when I was [3 years old]. I was always a believer but this is the first time that I really took it serious, or took God serious, and started fully trusting Him on and off the field with every situation.”

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett added that Evans has been a blessing to the team.

“We love him,” Garrett said. “We’re really fortunate to have him. He’s someone who’s a mentor to a lot of our guys and he’s a great resource. Not only for the players but for the coaches and we’re really fortunate to have him in our organization.”

Justin Welby joins royals in celebrating courage of London Bridge attack survivors

Justin Welby joined the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall for a visit to Borough Market to see how traders, restaurateurs and shoppers have recovered from the deadly attacks and were preparing for Christmas.

Knife-wielding attackers ran amok at the popular London food market, stabbing passers-by after mowing down pedestrians on nearby London Bridge.

After touring the many stalls, chatting to shoppers, meeting traders and sampling their goods, from cheese to nuts, the trio spoke to a group of people who experienced the attack or whose staff helped clients to safety.

Archbishop Justin told Premier it was “striking” how cohesive the market community and nearby Southwark Cathedral have become since the tragedy.

“The communities just came together in the most powerful way and supported each other,” he said.

“Seeing the way picked themselves up and moving forward powerfully, you see the work of the spirit of God enabling people to overcome these terrible events.”

Following the Borough Market visit, Prince Charles and Camilla attended a Service of Light with Archbishop Justin at the Southwark Cathedral.

The Prince and The Duchess heard more about the Church’s…
