Poland defends Sabbath with shopping ban

Shopping centres will eventually only be allowed to open on seven Sundays every year under a new law, which gained support from Polish Catholic leaders.

Passed largely thanks to support of members from the ruling right-wing Law and Justice party (PiS), the bill is set to be formally signed into law by PiS ally and President Andrzej Duda.

From 2019, shopping malls will only be allowed to open during two Sundays every month and, from 2020, and only seven Sundays every year.

Welcoming the move, Poland’s Bishops Conference was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying: “Let’s not disregard God in public life and let’s not assume we have the right to organise national life as if God didn’t exist.”

The new measures will be introduced gradually from March 2018 and mean all but the smallest shops will be forced to shut their doors on most Sundays.

It is not expected that online shopping firms, gas stations, restaurants, cafes or cinemas will be affected.

The new legislation was suggested by the Solidarity trade union in a bid to ensure workers can spend more time with their loved ones.

Over 100 Churches to Participate in Prayer Walk outside Charlotte Abortion Clinic

Over 100 Churches to Participate in Prayer Walk outside Charlotte Abortion Clinic

Supporters of a 40-week pro-life march that has been ongoing outside a Charlotte abortion clinic are preparing for the rally’s highlight on Saturday called Love Life Charlotte.

Organizers for the event say that as many as 7,000 people will participate in the 1.3-mile prayer walk that will circle around A Preferred Women’s Health Center of Charlotte.

The prayer walk is the culmination of a 40-week “Journey of Hope” campaign where more than 100 area churches marched in prayer walks around the clinic. Pastors also preached on some Sunday mornings at the clinic and participants fasted in prayer on Wednesdays.

“The great thing about this is it is not a single event. It is week after week of churches coming together in the public square,” Love Life Charlotte founder and Charlotte-based businessman Justin Reeder told The Christian Post on Wednesday.

“That is not happening for the most part anywhere across denominational lines. They are not coming to see a headline speaker or a band, they are going to a dark place in our city that for the most part, nobody was going to for years. It’s John 17 being played out in our city week after week.”

Reeder said in the two years since the organization launched, it has helped some 800 families reconsider their plans for abortion.

“Our frontlines ministry teams were there to counsel them and get them on the mobile…

John Piper Says White Evangelical Support for Trump Is Harming Minority Outreach

(Screenshot: YouTube/Desiring God)John Piper, founder and teacher of desiringGod.org and chancellor of Bethlehem College & Seminary, giving remarks as part of a live video message on YouTube called “Together for Good?” on the evening of Thursday, November 30, 2017.

White evangelical support for the campaign and presidency of Donald Trump has hindered their racial reconciliation efforts, according to influential evangelical John Piper.

The chancellor of Bethlehem College & Seminary stated in a message livestreamed on YouTube Thursday evening that over the past few years, America has experienced a “constellation of sorrows” on the issue of race relations in America.

Piper, founder of DesiringGod.org, explained that he was directing his comments primarily toward white evangelicals in the Reformed theological tradition.

Piper listed six things in the “constellation of sorrows” category, which he also called six “crises.” The first mention was the Michael Brown shooting in 2014 and ensuing controversy over his death.

After talking briefly about Brown and racially-charged police shootings in general, the next “crisis” given was “the emergence of Donald Trump, first as candidate and now as president.”

“Donald Trump with his divisive rhetorical style and his adolescent pattern of…

Open Heavens 2 December 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Backsliding: Not An Option

Open Heavens 2 December 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Backsliding: Not An Option

Topic — Backsliding: Not An Option — Saturday 2, December 2017.

Memorise: Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. – 1 Corinthians 10:12

Read: Matthew 27:3-5 (KJV)

3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 89-92, Nahum 2:1-3:4, Hymn: Sing Hymn 11 – I Have Decided To Follow Jesus

MESSAGE:

One unfortunate thing about backsliding is that backsliders often fall so slowly that they hardly notice their deteriorating state. By the time some of them realise how far they have gone, it is rather too late. Are you a backslider? May the Lord restore you fully to Himself today! According to James 1:14-15, backsliding is a process that progresses from lust to sin, and ultimately ends with death. In Luke 22:3-6, Judas accepted to be paid 30 pieces of silver to betray his Master. He must have thought he was going to make some quick, free money. He probably believed that nobody would be able to capture Jesus. After all, how could anyone apprehend the man who calmed the storms by His word? However, after the plot blew up in his face, he felt so disappointed in himself that he returned the money and committed suicide by hanging himself. The question is, why steal or accumulate what you are not going to spend? Do you know that some people, who are stealing, particularly from God, will not be able to spend their evil loot? Those who steal God’s money to buy a car are only driving a moving coffin which can claim their lives at any time.

“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” – 1 Corinthians 10:12

On the straight and narrow way to Heaven, overconfidence has killed a lot of people, preventing them from making it to the very end. A case in point is Samson. His fall from grace, which led eventually to his tragic death, was a gradual process. From violating little instructions not to eat anything from a dead animal as a Nazarite, to unwholesome jesting and riddles that made light of the commandment of God he had broken, to visiting a harlot, and eventually ending his ministry on Delilah’s laps (Judges 14-16, Numbers 6:1-21). Overconfidence has brought many people to the pitiable place where they are now. Always remember that nobody can stand by his or her own power alone, except God helps the fellow. In fact, we are so weak that we need to always rely on God’s strength to live the Christian life. Have you ever thought or even boasted that you cannot fall? You are just like Peter who boasted that he would never deny Christ, but at the end of the day he denied Him thrice (Matthew 26:31-36). Recognize your weakness and engage in regular Bible study, prayers and fasting to draw strength from God. Furthermore, deliberately avoid any appearance of evil that can tempt you, and break any tie that can lure you back into sin. The Lord will keep you from falling, and He will restore you if you are already down.

Action Point: Pray that God will keep genuine Christian leaders across the globe from falling.

Hymn 11: I Have Decided To Follow Jesus

1. I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.

2. The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
No turning back, no turning back.

3. Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.

4. My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.

5. Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
No turning back, no turning back.

Pope says ‘Rohingya’ in emotional encounter with Burma refugees

In a deeply moving encounter in Dhaka, Francis greeted and blessed a group of Rohingya Muslim refugees, grasping their hands and listening to their stories in a show of public solidarity amid Asia’s worst refugee crisis in decades.

He apologised for the “indifference of the world” to their plight and then pronounced the name of their ethnic group to a gathering of Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and Christian leaders.

“The presence of God today is also called ‘Rohingya’,” he said.

The 16 Rohingya – 12 men, two women and two young girls – had traveled to Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar, the district bordering Burma where refugee camps are overflowing with more than 620,000 Rohingya who have fled what the UN says is a campaign of ethnic cleansing by Burma’s military.

The campaign has included the burning of villages and fleeing Rohingya have described rape and shootings by Burmese soldiers and Buddhist mobs that left them no option but to make the dangerous and sometimes deadly journey through jungles and by sea to Bangladesh.

The Burma government has denied any such campaign is under way. The army says “clearance operations” are targeting militants who attacked security positions in August.

Burma’s government and most of the Buddhist majority opoose the term “Rohingya”, saying the members of the Muslim minority are “Bengalis” who migrated illegally from Bangladesh.

Burma does not acknowledge them as a local ethnic group and will not give them citizenship, even though they…

Carl Lentz Says Old Testament Passage about Tattoos Doesn’t Apply Today

Carl Lentz Says Old Testament Passage about Tattoos Doesn’t Apply Today

Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz has said that having tattoos does not go against Scripture.

Lentz, the popular pastor who has several tattoos himself, recently responded to those who say tattoos are unbiblical. In an interview with World Religion News, Lentz said that the Old Testament passage often used against tattoos must be interpreted in context:

“Biblical interpretation is huge right. So, with tattoos not being allowed you mean Leviticus. We play both sides of the coin I think that is healthy. Like this paradox of scripture, interpretation is actually is part of our faith, the tension of it,” said Lentz, who pastors the New York city megachurch. “So, on one hand,” he continued, “we say that is the Old Testament scripture, there is no New Testament verification of that. That law that had to do with slaves, that identified you as part of a tribe we don’t believe that came through the cross. We don’t believe that when Jesus died and rose again that old Levitical scripture applied to our modern life. That is ridiculous. At the same time, there are some things we do believe follow through on the cross.”

As The Christian Post reports, Lentz was referring to Leviticus 19:28 which says, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.”

“We don’t believe that when Jesus died and rose again that old Levitical scripture…

HIV chaplain says the Church has a responsibility on World AIDS Day

The chaplain, Heather Leake-Date, is a Methodist minister and also a consultant pharmacist for HIV and sexual health at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

She called for churches to use the day to raise awareness about the condition.

“When the HIV pandemic first came to prominence there was quite a lot of misunderstanding, a lot of prejudice, stigma and discrimination and some of that came from the Church or people of faith,” she said in an interview with Premier.

She added: “There’s a lot of negative stuff around people being deemed to have brought things upon themselves and it being a judgement, which is not true and is not the official line of the churches, but that message still persists.”

Leake-Date said the main thing she would want people to know on World AIDS Day is that although those with the condition can have side effects from the medication, they mostly live normal lives.

She said: “We’re in a very much more hopeful situation than we were 20 years ago.

“The important thing is for people to be tested and to be diagnosed, then they can be treated.

“People can live a pretty much normal life.”

‘Monster’ North Korean Missile Poses Threat to U.S.

‘Monster’ North Korean Missile Poses Threat to U.S.

North Korea’s newly-tested intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) reportedly has the capacity to reach the U.S. mainland. This new missile is said to be larger and more dangerous than previous missiles, which means that the threat from North Korea continues.

Vipin Narang, an associate professor at MIT, even called the missile “a monster.” Other experts and scientists are still researching what the ICBM’s capabilities may be.

Although the details are still unclear, David Wright, a rocket expert at the Union of Concerned Scientists, believes the missile could reach U.S. soil. “I think at this point they could,” he stated, according to NPR.org.

North Korea reportedly tested the ICBM on Wednesday. It launched nearly 2,500 miles into the sky before plummeting into the Sea of Japan. The missile also was in the air for 53 minutes.

Making calculations based on this test run, Wright believes the missile would be able to reach the U.S. mainland.

Questions still remain as to how viable this North Korean threat truly is, but Narang says that the U.S. should be prepared and take precautions.

“We have to assume that this thing can park a warhead on the Eastern Seaboard,” he said.
