Jesus Is No Misogynist, See the Bible for How He Treated Women

(Photo: Passion 2013 Conferences)Popular speaker and author Beth Moore gives a Bible study to 60,000 students about the significance and symbolism in the Lord’s Supper at Passion 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday, January 9, 2013.

Author and evangelist Beth Moore has insisted that Jesus Christ is not a misogynist, encouraging people to read the Bible to see how He treated women.

“If you want to know how Jesus felt about women & treated women, read the Gospels. Anything & anyone that does not reflect what you see in Jesus in black and white on those pages may wear a Christian label but never confuse that with Christlike,” Moore, the founder of Living Proof Ministries, wrote on Twitter Tuesday.

“Jesus is no misogynist. Read & see,” she added.

Moore has in recent weeks been speaking out strongly against anyone seeking to misuse the Bible and evangelicalism for politics.

“It’s been a harrowing trip to Oz for many evangelicals this year, the curtain pulled back on the wizards of cause,” she wrote last week.

“We found a Bible all right, seemingly used instead of applied, leveraged instead of obeyed, cut and pasted piecemeal into a pledge of allegiance to serve the served.”

The author added in a follow-up post that if evangelicalism “has any hope and any future of actually…

Budget could have gone ‘much further’ in helping poor

In a statement, the Bishop of Birmingham, Rt Revd David Urquhart, who speaks on behalf of the bishops in the House of Lords, welcomed some of the measures but raised concern of some of the issues that were missed.

“The Chancellor’s Budget has gone some way to deal with the immediate problems facing our economy, housing and NHS,” he said. “But it could have gone much further to help the many at the sharp end struggling to get by.

“Across the country churches support and are in touch with those who experience poverty or financial difficulty as a result of low pay, illness, or debt.

“The Budget statement provided an opportunity to make a difference to the lives of the most disadvantaged at a time when the cost of living is rising.

“The country faces substantial financial challenges and the growth forecast downgrades are worrying. But whilst the Chancellor has limited room for manoeuvre, there is more that could have been done to alleviate the situation of those who are struggling to manage.”

Meanwhile, Christian charity CARE raised concern that families haven’t been prioritised in the budget.

CARE’s Chief Executive, Nola Leach said: “Once again the Government has failed to take account of the tax burden that one earner families face in our current tax system. New research shows it is the highest amongst OECD countries, and this budget has done nothing to reduce it.

“Today was a missed opportunity for change, instead of prioritising struggling families in the…

Cinnamon May Help Obese People Lose Weight, Research Reveals

REUTERS/Simon NewmanAn obese man sits on a wall in the Canary Wharf financial district of London, April 1, 2009.

While cinnamon is one of the most beloved spices, a recent study has revealed that it may actually aid in solving obesity problems, too.

A recent research from the University of Michigan Life Sciences Institute has revealed that cinnamon can be potent in fighting obesity after a team studied the spice’s cinnamaldehyde, an essential oil that gives cinnamon its flavor and was earlier discovered to apparently protect mice against obesity and hyperglycemia. Upon conducting more study on the spice’s essential oil, it was indicated that cinnamaldehyde improves metabolic health by directly working on fat cells, causing them to start burning energy through a process called thermogenesis.

“Scientists were finding that this compound affected metabolism. So we wanted to figure out how — what pathway might be involved, what it looked like in mice and what it looked like in human cells,” explained Jun Wu, a research assistant and professor at the LSI, said.

When Wu and her fellow researchers tested the human adipocytes, otherwise known as fat cells, from volunteers of a range of age, etnicities, and body mas indexes, with cinnamaldehyde, it was observed that several genes and enzymes sped the lipid metabolism process. Additionally, it was also revealed that the human adipocytes experienced an increase in their Ucp1 and Fgf21, which are necessary proteins in the process of thermogenesis.

With a third of America’s adult population suffering from obesity, there is no denying that the results…

China warms to Vatican in art swap

Forty items from the Holy See’s collection of Chinese bronzes, ceramics and paintings will tour four cities including Beijing and Shanghai in March next year, in return for 40 pieces being lent to the Vatican’s museums.

Zhu Jiancheng, head of the Chinese government’s China Culture Industrial Investment Fund told a Vatican news conference he hoped the agreement would cement friendship, foster mutual trust and “contribute to the normalisation of diplomatic relations”.

While China severed ties with the Holy See in 1951, both Pope Francis and his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI have been keen to improve relations.

    PA

Diplomatic efforts between Beijing and Vatican City have remained strained over resistance to the Vatican’s insistence that the Pope should have authority to name Chinese bishops, a move China views as an infringement on its sovereignty.

There is speculation among academics and human rights campaigners that China’s President Xi Jinping will take a tougher stance on religious freedom, following his appointment to a second term as leader of the ruling Communist Party.

Author Explains How to Engage the Spirit Realm, Walk in Supernatural (Interview)

    Expand | Collapse
(Photo: Courtesy of Jennifer Eivaz)Jennifer Eivaz, author of Seeing the Supernatural: How to Sense, Discern and Battle in the Spiritual Realm.

The spirit realm is not the property of New Agers but of the Church, author Jennifer Eivaz says, and it is the inheritance of every Christian to learn how to discern and see into the supernatural.

In her new book, Seeing the Supernatural: How to Sense, Discern and Battle in the Spiritual Realm, Eivaz explains some of the most contentious and misunderstood issues in the Church and equips readers to flow in the discernment of spirits, one of the gifts of the Holy Ghost listed in 1 Corinthians 12.

“I’m a person who has always been in tune with the spiritual realm and nobody ever educated me out of it,” Eivaz said in an interview with The Christian Post.

When it comes to the supernatural, a mindset pervades in many Western churches that dictates that the spiritual realm, for all practical purposes, amounts to psychosomatic silliness. And while many Christians will pay lip service to the reality of spiritual warfare vis-à-vis Ephesians 6 — where the Apostle Paul speaks of the importance of putting on the armor of God and that believers wrestle not against flesh and blood but against distinctly spiritual wickedness — it is another thing entirely to discern, engage and actually battle evil, the author says.

“Salvation is spiritual, and God is Spirit,” she said, “so we’re going to be dealing with spiritual things. So to have a mindset that these things don’t exist, they’re not real, they are not a part of our lives so just shut your…

Christian group calls for budget to end benefit payments freeze

The Salvation Army’s call came ahead of the budget announcement on Wednesday afternoon and after new figures from the charity found three quarters of people across the UK think that more families are struggling financially today than they were five years ago.

The nationwide survey, which asked more than 2,000 people to give their opinions on rates of family poverty, revealed that 45 per cent believe that homelessness has increased in their community, and a further 71 per cent think there are more homeless people across the UK now than in 2012.

The results of the survey echoed The Salvation Army’s worries about the effect the roll out of Universal Credit could have on the most vulnerable people.

Staff claimed the average six-week waiting lists for people to receive their Universal Credit payments has plunged more households into greater financial hardship; they want the rollout to be paused while the Government “fixes its bureaucratic procedures”.

The Salvation Army’s director for community services, Tony Daniels said: “Staff and volunteers at our churches and social centres across the UK have seen growing numbers of individuals and families on low incomes who are struggling to put food on the table or keep a roof over their heads.

“So often the people they meet have been forced to come to The Salvation Army because they are waiting for their Universal Credit claims to be processed or they’ve seen their…

Non-Traditional Holiday Colors, Ornaments are Decorating Trends for 2017

REUTERS/Kevin LamarqueA woman takes a photo in the Cross Hall during a holiday decor preview of the White House in December 2016.

Christmas decorating trends for this year are about breaking away from the traditional.

While many people are expected to flock to the stores on Friday, Nov. 24, to avail of huge discounts on a wide array of items in the Black Friday sale, some will be busy decorating all ready for the Christmas season. However, those who have yet to purchase their holiday embellishments for this year and want to be updated with the Christmas decorating trend for 2017 are expected to depart from the usual red and green decorations as reports claim blush is the popular holiday color for Christmas 2017.

“Just like fashion, home decor goes through colors that are trending… right now blush is a huge color and we’ve incorporated it into ornaments, blush pillows. Blush looks beautiful with metallics, silver or gold or copper,” said Diane Fogerty, owner of Savvy on Clayton Road in Ladue, in a recent interview with KSDK.

For people who love the concept of White Christmas, though, white is pretty much a trend this year as well. According to decorating experts, white ornaments of different shades and textures are also an in-thing for the holidays this year. However, those who opt for the color are advised to blend their white Christmas ornaments with other metallic baubles, such as gold and silver, to make their holiday embellishments more chic.

Meanwhile, although blush is definitely not one traditional Christmas color, it is not the only thing that is expected to be a trend in…
