Florida on Path to Declare Pornography a ‘Public Health Crisis’

Florida is proposing a resolution to declare pornography a public health crisis given its ties to human trafficking and domestic violence.

The resolution, which is being proposed in both houses of the Florida state legislature, says pornography is “creating a public health crisis” that is contributing to the hypersexualization of children and teenagers. The resolution warns of porn’s addictive nature, outlines the physical and psychological risks and dangers in porn consumption, notes how it objectifies men and women, and damages families and relationships.

“After having several conversations with people involved in the fight against human trafficking over the past several years, it is becoming more apparent that there is a direct link between the use of pornography and the demand for paid sex,” said state Rep. Ross Spano in an interview Monday with The Christian Post.

So far, no Democrats have signed on as cosponsors but he anticipates working with them on this just as he has in previous years on legislation aimed at combating human trafficking, he told CP.

States like Utah, South Dakota, and Virginia have all passed resolutions calling the proliferation of porn a public health crisis in recent months. Spano believes such a resolution is necessary in Florida for several reasons, but “chiefly to bring awareness to the harmful effects pornography has on people, especially our children.”

“Whether it is the link to human trafficking, the link to increased domestic violence, or the changes it causes in one’s mental and emotional state, it is a discussion we need to have as leaders,” he said,…

New Machine Promotes Suicide by Including Detachable Coffin

New Machine Promotes Suicide by Including Detachable Coffin

A controversial new machine has been released by Exit International, an organization that advocates for euthanasia.

According to LifeNews.com, the new machine is called the Sarco capsule and comes with a detachable coffin, which supposedly streamlines the process of taking one’s own life. The new device was demonstrated at the “New Technologies for a Peaceful DIY Death,” conference, which was held in Toronto, Canada in October.

A potential user of the machine would need to access a code online to get into the capsule. The person lies down in the capsule and pushes a button which releases liquid nitrogen. The oxygen level in the machine will rapidly drop, leading to a speedy death.

According to ExitInternational.net, the main part of the machine can then be reused once the coffin is detached.

Dr. Philip Nitschke, who designed the machine, explained what he believes are its best features:

“Sarco does not use any restricted drugs, or require any special expertise such as the insertion of an intravenous needle. Anyone who can pass the entry test, can enter the machine and legally end their life.”

The Sarco was created to meet the growing demand by the aging population for a better method of assisted-suicide, according to Nitschke.

Church of England accused of being biased in selecting pupils

The report published by multi-faith group, the Accord Coalition for Inclusive Education found just one in eight dioceses advise against the practise, despite the Church claiming it doesn’t discriminate.

Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain from the Accord Coalition told Premier he’s very in much in favour of faith but not faith schools that “segregate into religious silos”.

He added: “I don’t think it’s very healthy for the children or the society at large.

“There is no national guidance by the Church of England… they’ve said ‘we’re doing it on a local basis… and each locality sorts out its own religious policy’.

“We contacted all 40 education boards and all 40 replied… and only five out of the 40 advise the schools not to select and to be positively inclusive.”

The report calls for national Church authorities to “practice what it preaches” and issue new guidance that makes clear where authority over setting faith based admissions lies.

Rev Stephen Terry campaigns for all Church of England schools to be open and accessible to children and families from other backgrounds.

He said: “To select on grounds of faith is discriminatory and validates a wider culture that says it is okay for state funded schools to segregate children by this means.

“To do so threatens the reputation of the Church, and is seen by many, inside and outside the Church as potentially hindering the growth of integration and cohesion in our…

Billy and Franklin Graham, Joel Osteen Top List of Most Influential Christians

Billy and Franklin Graham, Joel Osteen Top List of Most Influential Christians

Newsmax has released their list of the 100 most influential Christians, and Billy and Franklin Graham, along with Joel Osteen, top that list.

Those who made the list come from various denominations within Christianity, and certainly wouldn’t always agree with each other, but at least one thing they share is their profound impact on their faith communities and beyond.

Topping the list as the most influential Christian is the Rev. Billy Graham, who recently celebrated his ninety-ninth birthday. Following Billy Graham is his son, the Rev. Franklin Graham who heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, as well as the ministry Samaritan’s Purse.

Next on the list is Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen. Although Osteen has been criticized for his propensity to preach a prosperity gospel, he has thousands of supporters, and 45,000 people attend Lakewood’s weekly services.

Fourth on the list is former Arkansas governor and pastor Mike Huckabee. Huckabee has been influential in both the Church and in politics. He ran for president twice, most recently in 2016.

Other names on the list include Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, Jerry Falwell Jr., the Chancellor of Liberty University, Vice President Mike Pence, former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and many other pastors, speakers, authors, and politicians.

Christian charity calls for stricter tax avoidance rules after new poll

The findings of the ComRes study commissioned by Christian Aid have been published ahead of the Budget on Wednesday, which is expected to include new measures against tax avoidance following further revelations made in the Paradise Papers.

The poll also found that more than four in five Britons agree that large companies in the UK can avoid tax too easily and that large companies should pay their fair share of tax in developing countries.

Simon Kirkland, Christian Aid UK parliamentary and political adviser, said: “Tax havens cost the UK economy billions of pounds in lost revenue each year.

“They also cost developing countries hundreds of billions of pounds that could instead be used to tackle poverty.

“But Government appears to have developed a tin ear to overwhelming public opinion. It appears to be complacent on the issue and has introduced measures that are often too little too late.”

Christian Aid has called for immediate action from the Government. It suggested that Ministers insist that companies publish the taxes they pay in every country they are represented in. It’s a rule that the government had the authority to put into place in June 2016, “but have done very little to make it a reality”.

Kirland added: “Given the scale of tax avoidance linked with the UK’s tax havens, the Prime Minister should set a deadline for the UK’s Overseas Territories to adopt the same transparency on true company ownership as the UK.

“We also want to see the UK…
