Communities in the U.S. have come together in support of Sutherland Springs, Texas, where 26 people were killed in a church shooting. More than $1.3 million has been raised to help the victims and their families.

The Christian Post reports that $500,000 of those funds will go to help the family of Bryan Holcombe, the guest preacher who was delivering the message at the Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church that Sunday. Holcombe, along with his wife, Karla, as well as six other relatives, were all killed in the shooting. They suffered the most loss of any family in the massacre.

“Let’s get together and make it easier for the Holcombe family to recover from the 10 family members they’ve lost at the Texas Church Shooting on November 5. A million dollar goal would only cover $100,000 per person — there are many family members to cover,” wrote Cristopher Foster, a friend of the Holcombe family, in a GoFundMe campaign.

“Keep them all in your prayers. If we could all gather up some financial support to send this family during this devastation, it would be a blessing. This is too much to bear on their own, let’s be the Church! No amount of money will ever be enough, but it can take off a large burden,” he added.

Asuza Pacific University, one of California’s largest Christian universities, is being pressured to end its policies regarding homosexuality.

The conflict began when an employee at the University, Mahesh Pradhan, alleged that the university had demoted him based on his sexual orientation. LGBT student activists rallied around Pradhan and called for the university to change its policies.

“More than 50 students gathered [Monday] at the vigil to demand justice for [Mahesh] Pradhan, who is suing Azusa Pacific for retaliation, wrongful demotion and, among other things, infliction of emotional distress, and to call for more inclusiveness and acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning or queer community,” reports OneNewsNow.com, citing the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

LGBT students sent a letter to school officials demanding that they abandon their strict code on sexual ethics and adopt LGBT-inclusive policies.

The university has denied the allegations. “We value and respect our employees and we do not condone harassment. It’s completely against who we are as a university community,” said university spokeswoman Rachel White.

Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore struck back at what he called “the Obama-Clinton machine’s liberal media lapdogs” after a news article printed a woman’s claims that the former judge had initiated a sexual encounter with her when she was 14.

“The forces of evil will lie, cheat, steal—and even inflict physical harm—if they believe it will silence and shut up Christian conservatives,” Moore said on his Twitter account Thursday.

The Washington Post’s story with Leigh Corfman, now 53, says that Moore, then an assistant district attorney, approached her in 1979 outside an Alabama courtroom where she was sitting with her mother.

Corfman said another time Moore, then 32, took her to his home in the woods and kissed her. In another visit, Corfman said he undressed her and touched her over her undergarments and also guided her hand to his underwear.

Corfman said they did not have sex, and she asked Moore to take her home.

“I wanted it over with – I wanted out,” she told the Post.

Opponents of Moore are calling for him to drop out of the race before the Dec. 12 election against Democrat Doug Jones, but Moore said that he would not because the report is “baseless.”

Nine Christians were buried in north-central Nigeria yesterday after Muslim Fulani herdsmen ambushed and killed them earlier this week, sources said.

 

The victims, all members of the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN), were buried after a funeral service in Plateau state’s Riyom Local Government Area. They were killed, and three others seriously injured, on Tuesday (Nov. 7) evening at about 7:30 p.m. in Rim village as they returned from a nearby market.

 

In a text messsage to Morning Star News, COCIN Church Rim elder Gyang Dahoro identified those killed as Felix Ngwong, 34; Gyang Emmanuel, 29; Chuwang Bitrus, 31; Daniel Nini, 52; Dagam Danbwarang, 29; Rueben Danbwarang, 25, Sunday Danbwarang, 52; Dachollom Shom, 37; and Daniel Shom, 45.

 

Dahoro said the injured Dalyop Bwede, Darwang Samuel and Toma Sunday were being treated at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos.

 

The Rev. Dacholom Datiri, president of the COCIN, confirmed the killing of members of his church.

 

“We are saddened again by yet another attack on members of our church,” he said. “We have continued to be forced into mourning the death of some our members for no just cause. Whatever it is, our faith is dependent on Jesus Christ, our Savior.”
