Being religious in UK requires more logic, researcher says

Researchers from Coventry University and Oxford University conducted a brain stimulation experiment on pilgrims taking part in the famous Camino de Santiago and found no link between analytical thinking and supernatural beliefs.

Dr Valerie van Mulukom, co-author of the paper and a research associate at Coventry University told Premier that while the notion that believers of God don’t think rationally is rife in the UK, it actually takes more logic to have faith.

She said: “Being religious in the UK is harder, you actually require more analytical thinking because you have to go against the sort of mainstream ideas.

“So you have to be able to hold multiple ideas in your head.”

Dr Mulukom said she was prompted to conduct the research as she simply didn’t believe there was a link between religious belief and intuition or rational thinking.

She told Premier there have been a number of issues with previous research on the connection.

She explained: “They’ve only done the research in America and that’s the first problem. Because America is very religious, whereas a place like the UK is more secular.

“And they didn’t do causal testing of whether analytical thinking leads to religiosity.”

Dr Mulukom also said the study – published in Scientific Reports – is the first to challenge a growing trend among cognitive psychologists over the past 20 years that have attempted to show that believing in God is something that comes to us naturally or intuitively.

Pence Tells Grieving Town ‘Faith is Stronger Than Evil’

Pence Tells Grieving Town ‘Faith is Stronger Than Evil’

Vice President Mike Pence traveled to this rural stretch of Texas to offer prayers and words of comfort to a stricken community three days after a lone gunman killed more than two dozen people during a Sunday morning church service.

The memorial service was held Wednesday (Nov. 8) on a high school football field in the neighboring town of Floresville, about 13 miles from the site of the massacre at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. The service followed Christian tradition and was replete with Bible readings and prayers to Jesus.

It offered few political points and no mention of guns, mental illness or domestic violence.

Pence said he was inspired by the strong convictions of the people of Sutherland Springs and especially the victims of its historic church, and he expressed his solidarity with their faith.

Off to the side of the stadium, a section was reserved for victims’ families, and it was to them that much of the prayers and words were addressed.

“Faith is stronger than evil,” Pence reassured the families. “Faith is the antidote to fear and despair.”

Thousands of people responded with shouts of “Yeah!” and “Amen!”

Earlier in the day, Pence visited the hospital where many survivors are being treated and met with the families of the victims. He also spoke briefly to reporters outside First Baptist Church, cordoned off with yellow…

Just one in five think cathedrals and churches should be protected for future generations

However, the ComRes poll found that’s a higher proportion than royal palaces and country houses but lower than castles.

Eddie Tulasiewicz from the National Churches Trust, which commissioned the survey, told Premier there was a simple explanation to explain why places of worship ranked below castles.

He said: “That’s probably because it’s all to do with blood adventure.

“Young children probably like going there but churches have a bit of blood and adventure as well. If you go to a Roman Catholic Church, there might be bones of martyrs.”

Out of ten key types of historic buildings, 34 per cent of adults said castles should be protected for future generations, while 24 per cent believed the same should be said regarding cathedrals and churches.

Claire Walker, Chief Executive of the National Churches Trust, said: “At the heart of communities in cities, towns and villages, cathedrals and churches are a treasure trove of architecture, history and faith.

“As we approach the 2017 Budget, I hope that the fact that the public think that it is important to protect church buildings for the future will provide the Chancellor with the evidence he needs to provide further funding, such as the Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund, to protect churches for future generations.”

Listen to Eddie Tulasiewicz speaking with Premier’s Eno Adeogun.

14-Year-Old Former Trans Girl Reveals Dangers of Transgenderism for Young People

14-Year-Old Former Trans Girl Reveals Dangers of Transgenderism for Young People

A 14-year-old girl who began a transition to become a boy is speaking out about the dangers of transgenderism, particularly for young people.

Noor Jontry tells her story in an interview at 4thWaveNow.com. Jontry shares that her exploration of her gender began when she encountered young people online who were transitioning to another gender. She says she realized she wanted to be a boy because she wanted to be “masculine.”

“[B]eing masculine was about feeling safe,” she said.

“I felt like I didn’t want to be in my body. I didn’t like it. It kinda felt like my body wasn’t mine and I wanted a different one,” she continues, also noting that now she believes that a large part of this feeling was simply because she was going through puberty and didn’t know how to cope with the changes in her body.

“I used being trans to try and escape being scared about being small and weak. I thought that if I presented myself as a man I’d be safer,” she revealed.

Ultimately, Noor has come to believe that there are people who are truly transgender, but that most teens and young people who think they are trans are simply confused or going through a time of transition in life.

When asked what she would say to other girls who think they are boys, she replied, “There’s nothing wrong with your body. To be straightforward, you will never be male. You…

Carl Lentz Backs Biblical Marriage, Says Hillsong Gets ‘Killed’ Both by Christian Right, Leftists

(Screenshot: VICE News)Hillsong NYC pastor Carl Lentz in an interview on “Vice News” published on November 8, 2017.

Hillsong New York City pastor Carl Lentz said he backs the biblical definition of marriage as between one man and woman. He added that both the Christian right and leftists target his church, however.

Lentz was asked in a video interview on HBO’s “Vice News,” what he believes about “marriage equality,” to which he replied:

“I think we have a P.R. problem. Marriage equality, it’s a non-issue, because the laws of the land in New York City [are that] gay people can get married.”

When asked what he himself believes about marriage, Lentz responded, “My opinion is secondary to what we believe the Bible’s opinion is. So Hillsong Church, traditionally, for 30 years, we would say the Bible is really clear that marriage is between a man and a woman. And I believe the Bible says what it says, and I interpret it exactly as the Bible says.”

The popular megachurch pastor then said that his church “gets killed from both sides.”

“The Christian right thinks we’re too open; the super left thinks we’re not loud enough in our affirmation,” he added.

Australia’s Hillsong Church Senior Pastor Brian Houston also recently backed the traditional stance on marriage during the…

Walmart Releases List of Games, Consoles to Go on Sale

Bargain-hunters walk through Macy’s Herald Square store during early opening for Black Friday sales in Manhattan, New York, November 24, 2016.

While Black Friday 2017 is not expected to arrive earlier than two weeks from now, hardcore gamers already have an idea on what to expect that day as some gaming stores, including Walmart, have already revealed the list of gaming consoles and games that will go on sale.

According to reports, Walmart has already released its flyers for Black Friday, and it has confirmed that certain gaming consoles will, indeed, experience a price slash beginning Thanksgiving Day itself in the physical stores, while its online sale will take effect at 12:01 on Friday, November 24.

Although Walmart will be selling the Nintendo Switch for its original price, the retailer is offering the PlayStation 4 (1 TB) for $199 only, and the Xbox One (500 GB) for $189 only. Apart from offering gaming consoles at discounted price, certain gaming accessories such as controllers will be on sale, too. For instance, the PS4 Gran Turismo Sport VR Bundle (camera, headset, and game) will just carry a $299 price tag during the sale.

GameStop, on the other hand, has yet to release its Black Friday deals. However, the retailer is holding a pre-Black Friday sale beginning today, November 10, until November 12, Sunday. While the sale is exclusive to Elite Pro and Pro club members, there is no denying that it is already a good deal as, for instance, a bundle of Xbox One S 1 TB, “Rainbow Six Siege,” “Assassin’s Creed Origins,” GameStop Gift Card, and game of a shopper’s…

New Bill Would Provide Veterans with Better Healthcare Options

New Bill Would Provide Veterans with Better Healthcare Options

This Saturday, November 11, is Veterans Day, a day to honor those who have served their country. This Veterans Day, legislators have an opportunity to improve the lives of America’s Veterans via a new bill.

According to Hotair.com, the new bill will replace the Veterans Choice Program with a more effective program for Veterans who need healthcare. The current bill would reportedly allow Veterans to receive treatment at private medical providers if the VA is not able to treat them in a timely manner.

This new bill to help Veterans is being hailed as a bipartisan measure. It was introduced by Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN), according to the Washington Free Beacon. The vote on the bill will take place once the Congressional Budget Office releases figures on how much the program will cost.

Reforms to the VA have been discussed for some time, and although this bill wouldn’t necessarily reform the VA itself, it would at least allow Veterans to receive the care they need, even if they have to go elsewhere to get it.

The presentation of the bill near Veterans Day itself will perhaps help to gain support for the measure.

The Washington Times notes that Veterans Day was officially instituted as a day of remembrance and an official holiday in 1938. It initially was associated with Armistice Day, which commemorated the end of World War I. In 1954, it was instituted as a day to honor…
