Kickstarter Campaign Launches to Make Pocket-Sized Bible in Manuscript Form

Three Christian friends from southwestern Missouri who are on a mission to publish pocket-sized Gospels in manuscript form for easy reading got their project fully funded in just five hours after launching a Kickstarter fundraiser. But “we are not done,” they say.

“To fund it in five hours was a good feeling. It was a surprise,” Giancarlo Ospina, one of the three, tells Springfield News-Leader. “We are not done. We want to raise a lot more than that.”

The project was launched in late October with the goal of $12,000. In about a week, it has raised $23,614, and the campaign carries on until Nov. 28.

“We were inspired by the way Scripture was originally written, by individual authors with diverse points of view,” wrote Ospina, Jordan Donaldson and Jesse Tyler on Kickstarter. “Manuscripts is printing the books of the Bible in easy to read volumes that are beautiful and small enough to place in your pocket. To start, we’re printing the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.”

These will be books “you can carry with you and pass on,” says Donaldson. “We all grew up in a Christian setting and the Bible can be sort of super intimidating. It can feel like a textbook.”

The three eventually want to publish all the books of the Bible. The initial four books are priced at $28 as a set.

“We will probably be releasing the books in collections,” Tyler says.

“Each Gospel is formatted like a traditional book,” they say on Kickstarter. “The text is…

Egypt’s President meets with American evangelical leaders

Christian author Joel Rosenberg organized the trip and was accompanied by Dr Michael Youssef from the Leading the Way ministry, former Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, religious freedom advocate Johnnie Moore and others on Wednesday at the Presidential Palace in Cairo.

Dr Youssef said he was “honoured to take part in a landmark event” and said it was the “first time in history, a leader of Egypt, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, met with American evangelical leaders”.

Writing on his site, he went on to say: “Our delegation wanted President el-Sisi and the Egyptian people to know that American evangelicals pray that Egypt would be prosperous and at peace. President el-Sisi warmly expressed his gratitude for our visit.

“Every member of this diverse group praised President el-Sisi for his wise and courageous handling of the crisis in Egypt during the anti-government protests of June 2013, leading to the overthrow of Islamist leader Mohamed Morsi.”

The meeting reflects a shift in US policy under President Trump as his predecessor, President Barack Obama, refused to invite Mr el-Sisi to the White House because of concerns about human rights violations.

The meeting lasted three hours and touched on matters ranging from terrorism and education to human rights, according to Johnnie Moore, a California pastor and public affairs executive who attended and served as a spokesman for Trump’s ad hoc board.

Dr Youssef said he was “grateful for the opportunity to meet…

FBI JFK files allege Martin Luther King Jr had child out of wedlock

The 20-page document, dated 12th March – three weeks before the civil rights leader was assassinated in Memphis – is included in the latest trove of government files about the former President’s murder , which the National Archives released on Friday.

Many of the allegations contained in the records appear to be reports of private conversations between others, or hearsay reported third-hand.

One of several allegations was the result of “a very responsible Los Angeles individual in a position to know” that claimed Dr King had a mistress in California with whom he fathered a child.

Dr King is also accused in the files as having links to the Communist Party, setting up a “tax dodge” with his Southern Christian Leadership Conference organisation and having affairs with at least four women, including folk singer Joan Baez.

It also warns that despite Dr King’s history of calling for peaceful protest, “the combined forces of the communist influence and the black nationalists advocating violence give the ‘Washington Spring Project’ a potential for an extremely explosive situation”.

Dr King was assassinated before the planned march.

Although the FBI’s allegations against Dr King have been well known for years, the newly released report offers insight into the picture that was created of the revered leader as he campaigned for civil rights.

There is no evidence that any of the claims in the report were verified and it…

Christianity is a faith with a long and detailed history, with numerous events of lasting significance occurring throughout the ages.

Each week brings the anniversaries of great milestones, horrid tragedies, amazing triumphs, and everything in between.

Here are just a few things that happened this week, Nov. 5–11, in Church history. They include the murder of an abolitionist minister, the exile of the mind behind the Divine Comedy, and the birth of the man who started the Protestant Reformation.

A Critical Prayer Key Many Believers Neglect .

All of us can pray in any situation with the same confidence in G-D that Abraham’s servant demonstrated. (Pixabay/StockSnap)

Over the past few weeks, I have been studying a lot about prayer. Last week in my article, I wrote about Daniel and the importance and power of consistent prayer.

Today’s blog shares another key biblical lesson about prayer, which we find as we read Genesis chapter 24. Surprisingly, this lesson is not taught by any of the principal characters, such as Abraham, Isaac or even…

She Planned to End Her Life but God Intervened

“I was just going to kill myself … I had planned it all out.” This haunting admission came during the most recent episode of Missy Robertson’s “The Overcomers” podcast.

A Louisiana woman named Kishi shared, in detail, her journey from drugs and desperation to faith and recovery, telling Robertson about how she nearly ended her life before finding Jesus.

Kishi, who had struggled with substance abuse and was busted for selling drugs, was at her whits end. After her arraignment, she planned to head to a specific location and follow through with her suicide.

Then, something unexpected happened.

“They put me in jail on my arraignment date and that was only because of God,” she said, noting that most people are let out on that date until a sentencing hearing can be held later on. “God saved me from myself that day.”

After going away to jail, Kishi entered a recovery program, where she said she accepted Jesus and learned about the Bible. Soon, she was making the decision to change her life rather than end it.

In explaining her circumstances leading up to her arrest, Kishi went back to her childhood, explaining how a “lack of love” can cause a plethora of problems in children’s lives.

“When I was young I was raised by my grandparents,” she said. “My mom was an addict and so was my father. I never knew my father.”

Kishi said that her circumstances made her feel like there was something wrong with her.

“The lack of love in my life caused me to go for the first guy who showed me affection,” she said, explaining that he was a violent alcoholic.

Then, when that relationship ended, she…

Christian ex-minister becomes first Tory MP investigated under party’s new code

The Ex-Welsh secretary apologised for sending explicit texts to a woman he interviewed for a job in 2013 when she was 19-years-old and admitted he had said “some pretty outrageous things” to the woman after meeting her.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd has signalled MPs found guilty of sexual harassment could be kicked out of the Commons under a tough new crackdown.

Ms Rudd predicted that the wave of sleaze allegations sweeping Westminster would lead to a positive “clear-out” which would leave Parliament and the Government in better shape.

The Home Secretary said she wanted the sanction of sacking MPs to be considered as part of a major overhaul of anti-harassment procedures at Westminster.

She told Sky News: “I think that that is one of the things that I would encourage the review to look at. It may be the case, it may not.
“It is wrong for us to have a knee-jerk reaction based on the past week. I think what we need to do is look at the whole issue. There needs to be a procedure put in place as soon as possible.”

The Home Secretary said Westminster was undergoing a “watershed moment”.

Her comments came as it emerged three more Tory MPs are to have allegations against them looked into by officials.

Ms Rudd described as “disgusting” an incident in which former defence secretary Sir Michael Fallon is alleged to have lunged at a journalist and tried to kiss her on the lips.

The comments came after Jane Merrick alleged in…
