School District Sues Obama Admin for Threatening to Pull Funds if Boy Not Allowed in Girls’ Restroom

Christian News — A school district in Ohio has filed a federal lawsuit against the Obama administration for threatening to pull its funding after administrators would only provide single occupancy spaces for a male student who identifies as female rather than allow them to use the restroom with the opposite sex.

According to reports, the anonymous student attends Highland Elementary school and was born a male. After completing kindergarten, the student’s guardian advised school officials that the child would now identify as female, and requested that he be referred to as a girl.

The school obliged, but the following year, when the guardian requested that the child be allowed to use the girls’ facilities, officials declined. They instead offered single occupancy rooms for the boy out of privacy and decency concerns for the other students.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which is representing the Highland School District in court, says that if an exception was made for the student, the entire district policy would need to be changed, which would have potentially serious ramifications in other settings.

It noted that at Highland High School “locker rooms [are] very open” and “the showers in the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms at the high school are group showers that do not have individual stalls.” ADF also outlined that “the stalls in the girls’ student restrooms at Highland Elementary School are open at the top and bottom by approximately two feet at the bottom and two feet at the top.”

But the guardian of the child was unhappy that the school would not grant the boy access to the girls’ facilities and filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. The department then ordered the district to accommodate the child, citing Title IX of the Civil Rights Law, which prohibits discrimination based on sex.

It sent a proposed resolution agreement, which among other aspects, required that “all its policies, guidelines, procedures, regulations, and related documents and materials” be changed to accommodate transgender students, and that the new policies be sent to the Department for review and approval. Training was also mandated for all staff.

But the district refused the resolution and now faces possible enforcement action, including the loss of federal funds over the matter. Therefore, with the help of ADF, officials have filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice, asserting that they are misinterpreting Title IX.

“Defendants’ threatened revocation of these funds will compel Highland to eliminate special-education classes and programs, end many of its educational-advancement programs and resources, increase class sizes (which will decrease the individualized time and attention that staff members are able to give each student), and cut the number of free and reduced-cost lunches available to students,” the officialcomplaint outlines. … Read More

Looking for evidence

We can’t prove God exists in a scientific sense. However, many things can’t be proved scientifically and they are still true.

There’s a sense in which humanity has simply accepted that there is a God, or gods. Historically humans have always had a belief in a greater Being as part of their culture.

The Bible doesn’t try to prove God’s existence. It takes that as a ‘given’. What the Bible is concerned to do is to reveal what God is like – how he acts towards the world and people, what sort of character he has, what sort of plans he is committed to.

Pointers to God

There are factors that point to the existence of God. Different people put more importance on some of these factors than on others. Some of the arguments used to show God’s existence are:

– There is a universal spiritual awareness in humanity, which indicates there is likely to be a Being on whom humans depend, and who they are accountable to
– The existence of the world demonstrates there is a supreme being who created it
– The wonder, beauty, diversity, intricacy and complexity of the world points to the existence of an intelligence who designed it all
– Human cultures all have a moral component, laws of right and wrong by which they seek to live and to which they hold individuals accountable. This indicates a greater moral Being who is the foundation of these underlying moral values

-Human intelligence, creativity, imagination and relational qualities indicate a higher being who is the author of these qualities
– Jesus himself cannot be explained apart from God’s presence and actio
– Some people claim it is impossible to really live out the belief that there is no God

In the end, it is a personal God, revealed in the Bible and in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus who reveals himself to those who seek him. It is a matter of faith and personal relationship with God, gained for us by Jesus.

Rima Fakih: Former Muslim Miss USA Converts To Christianity

Rima Fakih, the first Muslim woman believed to be crowned Miss USA in 2010, reportedly converted to Christianity.

Although former Miss USA winner Rima Fakih comes from a Shia Muslim family, she said it was only when she went to a U.S. university that she connected with her Muslim roots. Reports are that she recently changed faiths to Christianity. Some people believe it is due to marriage arrangements with Wassim Salibi, who is a wealthy music producer and Maronite (Catholic) Christian. Fakih was believed to be the first Muslim to win the title when she was crowned Miss USA in 2010.

A large majority of Muslim social media users were infuriated by the 30-year-old starlet’s decision to follow Jesus, and assured her the switch will “send her straight to Hell,” according to Albawaba.

“When I went to the University of Michigan, because there’s more of a Muslim community, my dad wanted me to learn more about Islam. I didn’t know much about Ramadan and other holidays, and my dad wanted me to take that opportunity and learn,” Fakih told Albawaba.

However, Fakih didn’t appear to have associated herself with just the one religion throughout her life. In a 2010 interview with the Huffington Post, Rima said she came from “more of a spiritual family.” Further, she said, “Religion really doesn’t define me or my family.

My family’s been very liberal, and we appreciate all different kinds of religions.” Her family is a mixture of different religions and different ethnicities. Her brother-in-law is Christian, and he and her sister baptized their two sons.

She said she also has an uncle who converted to Christianity, and he’s a priest now. Rima, who attended Catholic school growing up, said her family went to church on Easter. “We always had a Christmas tree, and every year we go the Radio City Christmas Show, and watch ‘The Miracle on 34th Street.’ But we celebrate some of the Islamic holidays as well,” she explains.

Fakih was born in Sour, Lebanon, and immigrated to Queens, N.Y. in 1993. She graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in 2003 at the age of 17. After graduation, Fakih moved to Dearborn, Mich., and began a mentoring program for children.

At the University of Michigan, she earned her bachelor’s degree in economics, with a minor in business administration.

Fakih and Salibi reportedly will be married in Lebanon on May 15.

Is it Always God’s will to heal someone?

How can God choose not to heal someone when He already purchased their healing? Was His blood enough for all sin, or just certain sins? Were the stripes He bore only for certain illnesses, or certain seasons of time? When He bore stripes in His body He made a payment for our miracle. He already decided to heal. You can’t decide not to buy something after you’ve already bought it.

There are no deficiencies on His end – neither the covenant is deficient, nor His compassion or promises. All lack is on our end of the equation. The only time someone wasn’t healed in the Bible (gospels) is when the disciples prayed for them. For example, Mark 9 when they prayed for the tormented child. They did not have breakthrough. But then, Jesus came and brought healing and deliverance to the child.

Jesus Christ is perfect theology – He is the will of God. We can’t lower the standard of scripture to our level of experience . . . or in most cases, inexperience. It’s a very uncomfortable realization – not everyone can handle it. Most create doctrine that you can’t find in the person of Jesus. He is the will of God.

How do we fix the problem?

1. Realize it’s not God’s fault.

2. Learn from others who see miracles. Have them pray for you. If you don’t know people who see miracles, find them. Books will help, if the author has a miracle lifestyle. (Don’t try to learn from those who only have the theory of miracles.)

3. Do what Jesus told His disciples to do when He addressed the problem – pray and fast (not just for a specific problem, but for a lifestyle anointing.)

4. Take risk – pray for people (NOT – “if it be thy will” kind of prayer. In the thousands of people I’ve seen healed, I’ve never seen anyone healed from that kind of prayer.)

5. It’s hard to hurt someone’s faith by praying for a miracle. Not praying for a miracle gives them no chance for increased faith. That is what hurts faith. The real goal is to show people God’s love. And faith grows in the display of God’s love. His love is seen when we show compassion and display God’s power.

6. When God heals people, give Him thanks and praise. Learn from it so it will happen again.

7. If someone isn’t healed, realize the problem isn’t God, and seek Him for direction as well as personal breakthrough (greater anointing for consistency in healing). Also, don’t take it personal. There are other factors involved besides great faith. That is only one element in the equation. Just learn to do your best to be faithful to His gospel, and honor Him for the results. It’s also not wise to blame the person who is sick.

8. There’s a difference between a miracle and healing. Miracles happen in an instant and healing happens over time. It is important to recognize the progress of what God is doing in a person’s body and give thanks, because healing increases in an atmosphere of thankfulness.

How to receive revelations from God

How do I receive revelation?

Many people ask me to pray for them to receive greater revelation from Scripture. While it’s always an honor to bless someone with prayer, it is seldom understood how revelation comes, or to whom it comes. One of the greatest joys in life is hearing from God. There is no downside. But there is a cost that comes with the impartation.
The following is a list of practical suggestions for those wanting to grow in revelation from God.

1.    Become childlike. Simplicity and humility of heart helps qualify a person to hear from God, while the desire to be profound is a wasted desire. What many discover after years of teaching is that the word that is simple is often the most profound. “At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.” (Matthew 11:25)

2.    Obey what you know. Jesus taught His followers, “If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.” (John 7:17)  “If anyone wills . . . he shall know” – Clarity comes to the one willing to do the will of God. The willingness to obey attracts revelation, because God is the ultimate steward, investing His treasures into fertile ground – the surrendered heart.

3.    Learn the biblical art of ‘meditation’. “I call to remembrance my song in the night; I will meditate within my heart, and my spirit makes diligent search.”  (Psalms 77:6) Biblical meditation is a diligent search. Whereas religious cults teach people to empty their minds as the means of meditation, the Bible teaches us to fill our minds with God’s Word. Meditation has a quiet heart and a ‘directed’ mind. Mulling a word over in our heart, with a pursuit that springs from the inquisitive child’s heart, is meditation.

4.    Live in faith. Living by faith in my present assignment makes me ready for more. “Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”  (2 Corinthians 4:4) Notice that the light of the gospel comes to the person who believes. Revelation comes to the one expressing faith! Live with the understanding that God has already willed to give you His mysteries (Matthew 13:11),  and ask accordingly. Then thank Him in advance.

5.    Acquire an understanding heart. This sort of heart has the foundations in place for something to be constructed upon it. These are the basic concepts of the King and His kingdom. Proper foundations attract the builder (revelator) to come and add to those foundations. “But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding.”  (Proverbs 14:6) God wisely stewards fresh insight to those who have the basic principles in place. When fresh insights come, the understanding heart has a “slot to put it in”. It is not lost as seed spilled on the ground.

6.    Give God your nights. I try to end each day with my heart’s affection stirred up and directed to the Holy Spirit. What an amazing way to go to sleep. The Song of Solomon reveals this poetically, “I sleep, but my heart is awake.”  (Song of Solomon 5:2) God loves to visit us in the night and give us instruction that we would have a hard time receiving during the day. (Job 33:15-16)  The desire to give God our night season flows naturally from the child’s heart that knows revelation cannot be earned. Ask Him specifically to minister to you in the night through visions and dreams. Once you have a dream or vision, write it out, and ask Him for understanding.

7.    Give away what you have already received.Never underestimate what hungry people can “pull” from you while you minister the word. Being in a place of continual giving is a sure way of getting more. When we’re in ‘over our heads’ in a ministry situation, we find out what God has been putting into us during the night. He draws out of the deep places in our hearts things that are not yet a part of our conscious thought processes.  (Proverbs 20:5)

8.    Become a friend of God. God shares His secrets with His friends. “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15) He makes all things known to His friends. Not only does He want to share all, He’s invited us to ask anything of Him. But be accustomed to hearing more than you can share with others. Listen as He speaks, but speak only what He gives you freedom to speak about. Some things are revealed only because we’re friends, and are not to be shared with others.

Vatican to open family department

The Vatican will officially open a family department for laity in September.

The new office will be in charge of pastoral care of the family and will take over from existing departments.

According to The Catholic Herald it will work on “the promotion of the life and apostolate of the lay faithful, for the pastoral care of the family and its mission according to God’s plan and for the protection and support of human life.”

The department will also encourage the “active and responsible presence of the laity in the advisory organs of governance present in the Church at the universal and particular levels.”

There is already a Pontifical Council for the Laity and a Pontifical Academy for Life, they will exist alongside the new body.

Pope Francis wants the council to pay special attention to young people as well as the poor and marginalised.

The body has been approved on a trial basis but the time period, name and staff of the new department have not been specified yet.

Pastor: “Huge problem” no-one speaks about elderly loneliness

James Prentice, pastor at Life Church Lincoln runs a group especially aimed at over 50’s, and he was speaking on Premier’s News Hour after more than 1,000 people were asked by campaign group End Loneliness how they felt.

James Prentice said: “It’s a huge problem, and I think it’s the responsibility of many of us to try to break down some barriers – not only so that people will start talking about it, but also so that people can actually be given practical ways of making friends and meeting new people and combatting that loneliness.”

The report is warning that isolation has become an epidemic and claims that elderly people who are lonely are not speaking up about their experience.

One-in-ten of those over-65 who are asked (more than one-million people) feel chronically lonely all or most of the time, and 92% of them said they were scared to admit they are lonely.

Now, five charities, including Age UK and Independent Age, want it to be considered a health issue.

The report shows many older people are suffering in silence because they fear being negatively judged by others.

Mr Prentice said that if loneliness can be proven, people might listen more.

“If science can establish more of a link, that can make people take it more seriously. I think one of the issues is people will think often people who’re lonely are just being a bit needy or they’re just being people who are just trying to get others attention when maybe they don’t need it as much as they think they do,” he said.

“But if you can actually prove in some way actually this person is lonely, and their loneliness is having a serious impact on their health, I think it may make people take it more seriously.”  … read more
