Prayers Answered: Australia's New South Wales Has No Fires for the First Time in Eight Months

In what may seem like a miracle to some people living in Australia, the NSW Rural Fire Service located in New South Wales reported on Monday that there are no active brush fires in the area for the first time in 240 days.

The fire service, which is the world’s largest volunteer fire service with more than 74,000 members, posted a photo to Twitter showing a hillside covered with what appears to be barren trees with fog hanging over them.

For the first time since early July 2019, there is currently no active bush or grass fires in #NSW. That’s more than 240 days of fire activity for the state. #nswfires #nswrfs pic.twitter.com/NpjF3lAHKa

— NSW RFS (@NSWRFS) March 2, 2020

“For the first time since early July 2019, there is currently no active brush or grass fires in #NSW. That’s more than 240 days of fire activity for the state,” the organization wrote.

The fires in Australia started in early July 2019 and have burned much of the country. New South Wales was hit hard by the inferno and the fire service said almost 2,500 homes were destroyed.

At least 25 people were killed in fires across the country, according to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Last month, government officials announced that the fires were contained for the first time in several months, but a few were still burning.

Rob Rogers, the deputy commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service, called the development “great news” after a “truly devastating season for both firefighters and residents who suffered through so much.”

But experts warn the current reprieve may be short-lived.

“There’s still potential for a significant fire season” to begin as soon as in five months, Simon Heemstra, a fire behavior specialist with the Rural Fire Service, told The Sydney Morning Herald.

Heemstra said the brushfires blackened more than 13.5 million acres, but also generated “an enormous amount of data” for researchers.

The researchers will study the information, using it to help improve warning maps, text alerts, and phone apps in order to better warn the public and ultimately save lives.

The newspaper reported multiple government agencies are working to overhaul the Australian Fire Danger Ratings System that was first developed in the 1960s within the next few years. The updated system will improve the prediction of a fire’s spread and intensity.

“That will help us in the future to better warn and prepare communities and better position fire-fighting assets,” Dr. Heemstra said, adding the new programs may be able to update fire warnings hourly.

Democratic Voters Have ‘Favorable’ View of Socialism, Exit Polls Show

Democratic Voters Have ‘Favorable’ View of Socialism, Exit Polls Show

The self-labeled Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders may have had a rough night on Super Tuesday, but many Democratic voters nevertheless said in exit polls they have a favorable view of socialism.

Former Vice President Joe Biden won at least nine states, including Massachusetts and Texas, two states Sanders had targeted and hoped to claim.

Still, Democratic voters in CNN exit polls—from California, to Texas, to Mainesaid they had a favorable view of socialism.

CNN’s exit polls included a question about socialism for voters in five states on Super Tuesday.

Maine Democratic voters, by a margin of 60-32 percent, said they have a “favorable” view of socialism. A majority of Democratic voters in California (52-34 percent) and Texas (56-37 percent) also said they have a favorable view of socialism. Even in the southern states of North Carolina (50-40 percent) and Tennessee (47-44 percent), a plurality of voters said they have a favorable view of socialism.

Tuesday’s exit polling is in line with other surveys.

In a 2018 Gallup survey, 57 percent of Democrats said they had a positive view of socialism while only 47 percent said they same about capitalism. (In the same survey, only 16 percent of Republicans had a positive view of socialism.)

And a Gallup survey conducted in January this year showed 76 percent of Democratsbut only 17 percent of Republicans and 45 percent…

James Bond “No Time To Die” is pushed back due to coronavirus concerns

The release of the James Bond film “No Time To Die” has been pushed back several months because of global concerns about coronavirus.

MGM, Universal and producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced on Twitter Wednesday that the film would be pushed back from its April release to November 2020.

The announcement cited consideration of the global theatrical marketplace in the decision to delay the release of the film. “No Time To Die” will now hit theaters in the U.K. on Nov. 12 and worldwide on Nov. 25.

The Bond films make a significant portion of their profits from international markets. The last film, “Spectre,” made over $679 million from overseas theaters in 2015 with over $84 million of that total coming from China.

Concerns had already been brewing around the imminent release and the global outbreak. Publicity plans in China, Japan and South Korea had previously been canceled. And on Monday, the popular James Bond fan site MI6-HQ published an open letter to the producers urging them to delay the film’s rollout.

“It is time to put public health above marketing release schedules and the cost of canceling publicity events,” the letter said.

Hollywood film release and production schedules have already been affected by the outbreak. Last week, Paramount Pictures halted production on the seventh “Mission: Impossible” film, which had been scheduled to shoot in Venice, Italy. The studio also postponed the Chinese release of “Sonic the Hedgehog.”

The coronavirus outbreak emerged in China and has spread globally. In all, more than 94,000 people have contracted the virus worldwide, with more than 3,200 deaths.

PODCAST: The Prayer Motivator Minute #913 (with Daniel Whyte III)

Prayer Motivator Minute #913

Charles Spurgeon said, “If any of you should ask me for an epitome of the Christian religion, I should say that it is in one word – prayer.”

This is Daniel Whyte III with the Prayer Motivator Minute #913 here to remind you that there is still great power in prayer to God Almighty in the holy Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our prayer motivator verse from the Word of God today is Hebrews 4:14-16 which says: “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Our featured prayer motivator quote today is from Steve Swartz. He said: “Cultivate your trust and familiarity with the Lord in prayer now so that when the hammer comes down, when the dam bursts, and when the earthquake hits, the door to the throne room of God is well-oiled and will open easily when you run through it.”

PRAYER

Now, if you are listening today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, allow me to show you how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Until next time,

Remember, friend, Pray, Think, Do! God Bless You!

PODCAST: The Master Plan of Evangelism, Part 27 (Soul-Winning Motivator Podcast #162 with Daniel Whyte III)

Soul-Winning Motivator Podcast #162

Welcome to the Soul-Winning Motivator Podcast #162.

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International. As always, it is so good to be with you today to challenge you, encourage you, exhort you, and motivate you to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ right where you are to those who are not believers in Christ. Even though we will share some instructions on how to witness for the Lord from time to time, we believe that most Christians do not need to learn how to witness for the Lord, they just need to go and do it; so our aim is more motivational than instructional.

Our soul-winning Passage from the Word of God today is 1 Corinthians 9:21 which reads: “To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.”

Allow me to share with you some insights regarding this Scripture from the Expository Notes of Dr. Thomas Constable:

Likewise when Paul was with Gentiles (“to those who are without law”), he behaved as a Gentile (“as without law”). This would have involved eating what they did, among other things.

The references to law in this verse may be confusing. In describing Gentiles as being “without law,” Paul did not mean that Gentiles are totally lawless. He meant they were not under the Law of Moses like the Jews were.

Paul wanted his readers to understand that, even though he did not observe the Mosaic Law when he was with Gentiles (Gr. anomos), he was still under God’s authority (ennomos).

As a Christian, Paul was not under the Law of Moses, but he was “under the Law (law) of Christ”. The law of God for Jews, before the Cross, was the Law of Moses, but His law for Christians, in the present age, is the Law of Christ. The Law of Christ is the code of responsibilities that Christ and His apostles taught, which the New Testament contains. Some of the same commands are in the Mosaic Law, although the codes—the Mosaic Law and the Law of Christ—are not the same.

“This is one of the most difficult sentences in the epistle, and also one of the most important, for in it Paul shows how the new relation to God which he has in Christ expresses his debt of obedience to God.

Our soul winning quote today is from Vance Havner. He said: “It is not our business to make the message acceptable, but to make it available. We are not to see that they like it, but that they get it.”

Our soul winning devotional is part 27 of our series titled “The Master Plan of Evangelism” from Robert E. Coleman.

Consecration – The Proof of Love

Supreme obedience was interpreted to be the expression of love. This lesson was underscored most emphatically on the eve of His death. As the disciples gathered around Him in the upper room following the paschal meal, Jesus said: “If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments. . . . He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me; and he shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him. . . . If a man love me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my words; and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. . . . If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love. . . . This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Ye are My friends if ye do whatsoever I have told you”.

Demonstrated by Jesus
Absolute obedience to the will of God, of course, was the controlling principle of the Master’s own life. In His human nature He continually gave consent to the will of His Father, which made it possible for God to use His life fully according to its intended purpose. Repeatedly He sounded it out: “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to accomplish his work”; “I seek not my own will, but the will of Him that sent Me”; “I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in His love”. It could be summed up in His cry of Gethsemane: “Not my will, but thine be done”.

The cross was but the crowning climax of Jesus’ commitment to do the will of God. It forever showed that obedience could not be compromised—it was always a commitment unto death.

The worldly minded religious leaders stated the truth when they said in derision: “He saved others; Himself He cannot save”. Of course, He could not save Himself. He had not come to save Himself. He came to save the world. He came “not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many”. He came “to seek and to save that which was lost”. He came to offer Himself a sacrifice unto God for the sins of all people. He came to die. There was no other way that the inviolable law of God could be satisfied.

This cross, having already been accepted in advance, made each step that Christ took on the earth a conscious acceptance of God’s eternal purpose for His life. When Jesus therefore spoke about obedience, it was something that the disciples could see incarnated in human form. As Jesus put it, “Ye should do as I have done unto you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, a servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them”. No one could miss this lesson. Just as Jesus found His blessedness in doing His Father’s will, even so His followers would find theirs. This is the sole duty of a servant. It was true of Christ, and nothing less can ever be accepted as worthy of His disciple.

In our next episode, we will look at Consecration – The Principle in Focus

PODCAST: The Scripture & the Sense Podcast #432: Amos 3:7-8 (with Daniel Whyte III)

This is Daniel Whyte III president of Gospel Light Society International with The Scripture & the Sense Podcast #432, where I read the Word of God and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as the Bible Knowledge Commentary or Matthew Henry Commentary. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.

Today we are reading Amos 3:7-8.

7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

________

That was Amos 3:7-8. Now here is the sense of it.

The Bible Knowledge Commentary reads:

Just as one event does not take place unless another necessary event has already happened, so the sovereign Lord does nothing regarding the history of Israel without first revealing His plan to His servants the prophets. But once this revelation has occurred—once the lion has roared and attacked, once the sovereign Lord has spoken—Israel’s judgment is sure to follow. Major changes in Israel’s history were preceded by revelations from God; He seldom acted without first giving warning through a prophet. A-hi-jah prophesied the schism in Solomon’s empire. An anonymous prophet forecast Josiah’s reform. A-hi-jah predicted the death of A-bi-jah and the end of the dynasty of Je-ro-bo-am I. Elijah prophesied the deaths of Ahab and Jezebel, and the extermination of Ahab’s descendants. Elijah also predicted the death of A-ha-zi-ah. Elisha forecast Moab’s defeat by Je-ho-ram and Je-ho-sha-phat. Elisha repeated Elijah’s prediction of the fall of Ahab’s dynasty. Je-ro-bo-am II regained lost Israelite territory in fulfillment of an unrecorded prophecy by Jonah. Isaiah predicted the collapse of the Assyrians in their invasion of Jerusalem and the extension of Hezekiah’s life. Judah’s exile to Babylon was repeatedly foretold—to Hezekiah by Isaiah, to Ma-nas-seh by anonymous prophets, and to Josiah by Hul-dah the prophetess. And Isaiah predicted that Cyrus would commission the rebuilding of the temple. The Lord always revealed His major plans in advance to His servants the prophets. The prediction could precede the event by years or even centuries, but the fulfillment was always certain. Since the Lord had now roared His judgment like a lion, who could but fear the outcome? And since He had revealed His intentions to Amos, what could he do but prophesy God’s message?

____________

Thank you for listening to the Scripture & The Sense Podcast. Remember to read the Word of God each and every day and pray without ceasing to God for wisdom to understand it and apply it to your life. Most importantly, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Please stay tuned for a complete presentation of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ so that you can get your soul saved from Hell to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die. May God bless you and keep you is my prayer.

Tenth Avenue North Announces Farewell Tour

Tenth Avenue North Announces Farewell Tour

Christian band Tenth Avenue North are calling it quits as they have embarked on their farewell tour. A lengthy post entitled “Farewell” was made on Instagram by the band’s frontman, Mike Donehey.

He begins with, “Words always seem to fail when it comes to farewell. Even the best goodbyes are bittersweet. Maybe we’re made for eternity after all.”

Then he addresses as to how far the band has come from its inception two decades ago and their surreal impact along the way.

“20 years ago, Tenth Avenue North was nothing but three friends goofing around in a PBA dorm room. We never dreamt it would take us around the globe, not in a million years. But here we are, two decades, shaking our heads, grateful, in all. We’re grateful for all the stories, all the tears, for all the memories we’ve made. Did I mention the music?”

Donehey indicates that the breakup is not “a sign of unhealth, quite the opposite.” Instead, it’s a new phase for the band individually.

“We’re dreaming new dreams. It’s time to encourage one another to go, go and do all that is in our hearts to do.”

What was initially the “Finally Living Tour” is now the “Farewell Tour” which is currently ongoing. Tenth Avenue North will also release new music along with playing some summer shows and festivals before closing out for good.

The Christian Post reports of other Christian artists expressing their gratitude and well wishes.

Alex Trebek donates $100,000 to LA homeless shelter: How to touch lives you’ll never see

Alex Trebek is known to millions of viewers for his thirty-five years of hosting Jeopardy! and for his battle with pancreatic cancer. Now, long after his television career is over, he will be known to people who may have never seen him on TV.

Trebek recently donated $100,000 to Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization that works to combat hunger and homelessness in Los Angeles, California. “I hope this helps a little bit,” he told the organization’s CEO.

The new shelter will house over eighty beds and bathrooms
and will have a laundry room and a commissary. A wing in the structure will now
be named after Trebek.

In March, he told reporters, “I have learned something in the past year and it’s this: We don’t know when we’re going to die.” But his gift will make a difference long after his life on earth is done.

Winston Churchill stated, “It’s not enough to have
lived. We should be determined to live for something.”

How to touch lives you’ll never see

James Davison Hunter demonstrates in To Change the World
that we change culture by achieving our highest place of influence and then
using that influence faithfully. He calls this “manifesting faithful
presence.”

You may not be the host of a television show or have
$100,000 to donate to a local charity, but God has given you influence with
someone in some way. The way you use your gifts, abilities, resources, and
relationships in this world can either make this world better or not. It can either
make your life more significant or not.

And it can either lead to eternal reward or not (1
Corinthians 3:11–15).

Unlike Alex Trebek, you may not leave a legacy today that
you can measure tomorrow. In fact, as Hunter shows, most of the ways we influence
culture are unknown to us at the time. Oswald Chambers observed that the river
touches shores the source never sees.

That’s why it’s so important to live every day in the…

Colton Dixon Says ‘Miracles’ Was Born out of Low Moment in His Life

Colton Dixon Says ‘Miracles’ Was Born out of Low Moment in His Life

The inspiration for Colton Dixon’s newest hit song, Miracles, came during a low moment in his life when he was unsure if he’d continue his music career.

At the time, he wasn’t noticing the everyday miracles that the song spotlights.

Miracleswhich has been viewed more than 250,000 times on YouTube—is Dixon’s first new music since his album Identity was released three years ago. Dixon became a household name to music fans in 2012 when he finished seventh on American Idol, but after his 2017 album Identity was released, he was left without a label.

“Music was kind of up in the air for me for a second,” Dixon told Christian Headlines. “It wasn’t looking very hopeful. It looked pretty dark actually. And my wife said something that kind of shifted things for us. She said, ‘I know this looks like a setback, but what if it’s actually a setup for what is ahead for you and what God has for you?’ And I thought, ‘That’s really good. That’ll preach.’ So we stood on that.”

During that time without a record label, Dixon says he was “kind of forced to slow down.”

“But in doing so I saw all of these little things that maybe I had taken for granted before,” he said. “And I saw them for the miracles that they really were.”

Dixon’s new label is Atlantic.

In Miracles, Dixon sings about how skeptics say miracles are due to stars “aligning” yet he believes…

As Death Rate From Coronavirus Rises, Global Ministries Aid Those Affected by Outbreak: 'My Hope Rests in God'

As the number of deaths related to the coronavirus rises, ministries are stepping up and offering assistance to those affected by the outbreak around the globe.

The World Health Organization (WHO) just revised the global death rate of the coronavirus, saying it’s fatal for up to 3.4 percent of people who get the infection, The New York Times reports.

A WHO spokesperson, Dr. Margaret Harris said the increase was a “crudely calculated” image of the disease’s death rate globally and was anticipated to “change over time, and vary from place to place.”

In the US, there are at least 120 cases in more than a dozen states and nine deaths that have occurred in the Seattle, Washington area.

Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse Respond

Ministries have been delivering personal protection supplies to prevent the disease from spreading. In February, The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and Samaritan’s Purse (SP) sent over 70 pallets of medical supplies and protective clothing to Wuhan, China.

Also, BGEA and SP’s China Ministry shipped 10,000 protective masks to the city of Huai’an. “Thank God our friends from the USA sent the masks to us at the right time—when we were in desperate need. Praise the Lord!” said the chief director of Huai’an No. 4 People’s Hospital in China.

The China Ministry team is also trying to calm the public’s fears by talking with ministry contacts through WeChat, one of China’s largest messaging and social media apps.

BGEA developed a webpage in response to concerns with the coronavirus and is offering spiritual relief.

Those who are worried about further development of the outbreak are encouraged to give their doubts and fears to our Father God.

The coronavirus has so far infected more than 94,000 people in 60 countries around the world, with more than 3,200 deaths.

“This virus is ruthless, and we don’t know where it is from or where it is going. Yet, Jesus is love, and we do know where He is from and where He is going. We are following Him,” said Daniel Ma, senior ministry representative for BGEA and SP’s China Ministry.

Coronavirus: What You Need to Know

Franklin Graham, the president and CEO of the BGEA and Samaritan’s Purse said, “We pray for the people of China and other nations where this virus is spreading. Our hearts go out to those who are sick and suffering and to the families who are grieving the loss of loved ones. The world is looking for hope. My hope rests in God. King David said, ‘Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me…’ (Psalm 23:4).”

“One day we will all stand before Him and give an account of how we have lived our lives. My prayer is that each and every one will put their hope and trust in Jesus Christ,” Graham said.
