Pastor Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas offered some strong words about evangelicals who plan to vote for Joe Biden on November 3rd.

In an interview with Fox Business’ Lou Dobbs, Jeffress was asked to share his thoughts on faith voters being courted by Biden’s campaign just a few months shy of the 2020 presidential election.

According to Christian Today, Jeffress responded that “there’s not a snowball’s chance … of Joe Biden gaining any significant evangelical vote at all.”

“The only evangelicals who are going to vote for Joe Biden are those who have sold their soul to the devil and accepted the Democrats’ barbaric position on abortion,” Jeffress asserted.

“I mean, it’s so barbaric, Joe Biden believes in unrestricted abortion. He can’t even get his own church, the Catholic Church, to stomach it. They have denied him communion because of that,” the pastor added.

Jeffress, a frequent Fox News contributor and staunch Trump supporter, went on to cite a recent Pew Research poll that showed that “82 percent white evangelicals are gonna vote for President Trump on Nov. 3.”

Only 17 percent of white evangelical Protestant registered to vote said they would or are likely to vote for Biden.

“I think the number’s gonna be higher than that,” Jeffress said, talking about the number of faith votes Trump will get.

The state of Nevada is reprimanding Evangelicals for Trump for hosting an event inside a casino in an attempt to evade restrictions imposed on houses of worship.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the event was held last Thursday night inside the Ahern Hotel. More than 500 evangelicals were in attendance inside the hotel’s lobby. The hotel’s maximum capacity is 1,600 people.

Evangelicals For Trump took advantage of Ahern Hotel as the state allows hotels and casinos to follow an up to 50 percent capacity rule, whereas churches can only have a maximum of 50 people in attendance at each service.

Thursday’s event included special guests such as Trump’s faith advisor Paula White, who leads the White House’s Faith and Opportunity Initiative.

Members of Trump’s evangelical advisory board were also present, including Pastor Jentezen Franklin and Bishop Harry Jackson Jr., as well as Pastor Jack Hibbs of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, California.

A video from the event was posted to Twitter by Ralph Reed, Chair of the Faith and Freedom Coalition. The 23-second clip shows hundreds of attendees singing aloud in praise and worship.

Pastor John MacArthur, whose California church is holding in-person services in violation of the state’s COVID-19 health orders, opened his most recent sermon by welcoming his congregation to “the Grace Community Church peaceful protest.”

“Good morning, everyone. I’m so happy to welcome you to the Grace Community Church peaceful protest,” MacArthur, senior pastor of Grace Community Church, a megachurch in Sun Valley, California, said Sunday morning, drawing cheers and applause from worshipers.

MacArthur went on to explain that, “based on the Word of God,” his church is “pro-life, pro-family, pro-law and order, and pro-church of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

The preacher then invited a chaplain from the Los Angeles Police Department to deliver the service’s opening prayer. The chaplain prayed that MacArthur and his congregation would have the “wisdom and faith to weather all of the things going on in church and outside church.”

While a riot went on in one part of Portland and a fire was started at a city police union building, thousands of Christians gathered in another part of the city to sing worship music this past weekend.

According to Fox News, worshippers met in Waterfront Park Saturday evening for “Riots to Revival,” featuring Christian musician Sean Feucht. Feucht has previously hosted similar worship gatherings in California despite COVID-19 restrictions.

A local news station reported that most people at the Portland worship gathering did not wear masks or follow social distancing advice.

Feucht said between 4,000 and 7,000 people attended the outdoor church gathering over the weekend.

“White, Black, Hispanic – we came and released our song of hope over this city. People gave their life to Jesus. Hundreds of people – We baptized people in the river behind us. There was so much joy that took over the streets of that city last night,” he said.

The patriarch of the Duck Dynasty family says spiritual issues always are at the center of his discussions with President Trump.

Phil Robertson, who starred in the popular reality show series Duck Dynasty (2012-2017) and endorsed Trump during the 2016 general election, made the comments on Fox News while discussing his new book, Jesus Politics: How to Win Back the Soul of America.

“I met with him three times since he was running – the second time via telephone. … The three times I’ve been with him, this was at the center of our discussion,” Robertson said, holding up a Bible for the camera. “I pointed him to Jesus. We talked spiritual matters all three times.”

Robertson appeared on Fox News’ Watters’ World two days after Trump and his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, engaged in a back-and-forth about God, faith and the Democratic party.

(RNS) — When it comes to coping with the stress and uncertainty of a pandemic, most Americans are turning not to God, but to TV.

That’s just one of the findings of a Pew Research Center survey released Friday (Aug. 7) on how the novel coronavirus pandemic has impacted the worship habits of Americans.

Pew surveyed 10,211 American adults online between July 13 and 19.

Here’s what the nonpartisan fact tank found.

TV is our best friend.

To help them cope with the pandemic, most Americans said they are staying home to watch Netflix and chill: 89% reported that they are watching TV or movies daily or weekly. This includes 90% of all Christians, 87% of Jews and 88% of the religiously unaffiliated, according to Pew.

Many Americans (84%) also are spending time outdoors or talking by phone or video with family and friends (70%), the survey said.

But fewer are turning to their faith for support.

More than half (55%) reported praying at least weekly, followed by reading Scripture (29%), meditating (26%) and practicing yoga (8%, despite the popularity of YouTube’s Yoga with Adriene in quarantine).

Those most likely to seek comfort in spirituality at least once a week — prayer, Scripture reading and meditation — are members of historically Black Protestant churches, followed by evangelical Protestants.

Liberty University, one of the largest Christian universities in the United States, announced Friday afternoon that president Jerry Falwell, Jr. will be taking an indefinite leave of absence.

According to a statement from the university, the Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee met on Friday and determined that Falwell should “take an indefinite leave of absence from his roles as President and Chancellor of Liberty University.” The leave of absence will be made effective immediately.

While the board did not provide a reason for this decision, Liberty University board member Rev. Dwight “Ike” Reighard, reportedly told Religion News Service in an email that he was “concerned” about “recent events.” 

The board issued statement, he added, addresses only “the beginning steps the University Board will more fully address in the days ahead.”

“We all would appreciate your prayers for the right things to happen in the days ahead for our wonderful University,” Reighard added.

The news comes just days after Falwell apologized for posting a photo to Instagram of himself with a woman, identified by The Christian Post as his wife’s assistant, with their pants unzipped and their stomachs out.

He captioned the photo, in part, “Lots of good friends visited us on the yacht … I promise that’s just black water in my glass. It was a prop only.”

As the coronavirus pandemic has halted most adoptions from outside the U.S., megachurch pastor and author David Platt is asking Christians to pray that their third adopted child, who turned 4 on Sunday, would come into their family soon.
