Senator Ted Cruz Bullied Out of D.C. Restaurant by Protestors

Protestors forced Sen. Ted Cruz out of a Washington restaurant Monday, questioning the senator on his vote for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual misconduct. One woman, Christine Blasey Ford, says he assaulted her in the 1980s when she and Kavanaugh were in high school. Another woman, Deborah Ramirez, says Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party during their freshman year at Yale.

Cruz had said earlier this year that he supported the nominee, saying that Kavanaugh “is one of the most respected federal judges in the country, and I look forward to supporting his nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States.”

Criticism of that support came Monday night when Cruz and his wife, Heidi, were walking to their table at Fiola, an Italian restaurant.

“There are now three people who have come forward and who have said that Brett Kavanaugh has attacked them,” a woman told the senator. “I know that you’re close friends with him. Did you talk to him about that? Did you talk to him about his position?”

Cruz was also told: “Senator, I have a right to know what your position is on Brett Kavanaugh.”

Cruz responded, “God bless you, ma’am.”

Protestors then gathered around the senator’s table, chanting, “We believe survivors,” until Cruz and his wife left. According to reports, the protestors cheered as…

National Assn. of Evangelicals Slams US Genocide of Native Americans, Racist Policies in Guide Update

(Photo: Reuters/Jonathan Ernst)A pair of young Native American dancers stand together during the opening “grand entry” to start the Oglala Nation Pow Wow and Rodeo in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, August 4, 2006. The annual festival is a bright spot for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, which struggles with high unemployment and problems with substance abuse and gangs and is one of the poorest communities in the United States.

The National Association of Evangelicals says the U.S. government has much to apologize for, such as the “genocide against Native Americans” and “the exploitation of immigrants and the descendants of slaves,” in its updated public policy guide.

“The foundational truth in ‘For the Health of the Nation’ is that all people are made in the image of God. Each principle in the document flows from that truth. Our hope is that this guide will help those of shared faith work together to bless others in the public square,” NAE President Leith Anderson said in a statement on Monday.

While the original “For the Health of the Nation” guide was adopted in 2004, a new revised version was adopted earlier this year, and published on Monday, to address the “shifting American context.”

The guide focuses on eight principles of Christian political engagement, starting…

Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence: My Identity Is in Christ, Not Football

Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence: My Identity Is in Christ, Not Football

Clemson’s new starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, may appear he’d be better suited for the bright lights and big city atmosphere of Los Angeles, but his coaches say he’s actually the opposite.

“He is just laid back,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said of the player who is known for his long blonde hair, according to TheClemsonInsider.com. “He does not really ask or want anything. He just comes to work. That’s it.”

Lawrence, a 6-foot-5 true freshman for the No 3 and undefeated Tigers (4-0), also is someone who is open about his Christian faith. Lawrence was the top-rated high school quarterback in the 2018 class according to Rivals.com, but has kept football in perspective.

“Football is important to me, obviously, but it is not my life,” he said. “It is not like the biggest thing in my life. My faith is. That just comes from kind of knowing who I am outside of that. I just know, no matter how big the situation is, it is not really going to define me.”

Lawrence was named the team’s starter Monday after coming off the bench to throw four touchdown passes in Clemson’s 49-21 win over Georgia Tech.

“He really played well,” Swinney said. “He was very poised. The game has slowed down for him, and he’s making good decisions. … He made some beautiful throws … and there’s just some technical things to clean up.”

Andy Stanley Says Most Former Christians Still Have ‘a Crush on Jesus’

(Photo: North Point via The Christian Post)

North Point Community Church Senior Pastor Andy Stanley has said he believes that most people who’ve left the church still maintain “a crush on Jesus.”

When asked what Christians can do to win people back to church, Stanley responded that he believed even those who are not interested in worship still desire to be loved, “especially when things aren’t going well,” he said in an interview with ChristianBook.com that he shared on Twitter Monday for his new book, Irresistible: Reclaiming the New that Jesus Unleashed for the World.

“Post-Christians could care less about my new sermon series. But they’re still interested in matters of faith and spirituality,” said Stanley.

“And — this is big — most post-Christians still have a crush on Jesus. While modern folks may be hesitant to recognize Jesus as divine, they’re not in the least bit hesitant to laud him as someone whose life is worth imitating.”

Stanley also spoke about reaching out to those who are unchurched, saying he refuses to use the statement “the Bible says,” echoing comments he has made in the past.

In his interview with ChristianBook.com, Stanley compared using the term “the Bible says” in modern American culture to using the term “the Quran says.”

Secularists say Scottish faith schools cannot bar children from nativity plays

According to Scottish publication The Herald, the Catholic Church said such pupils would face wider exclusion from “charitable fundraising, Nativity plays and feast day celebrations” in response to them being removed from religious assemblies.

Secular and humanist groups in Scotland have said this is isolating non-religious children unfairly.

Gordon MacRae, Chief Executive of Humanist Society Scotland told Premier: “The proposal of the Catholic Church relates to the rights of senior pupils to opt out of Religious Observance (what is known as compulsory worship in England).

“Every state school in Scotland is a faith school – either nondenominational or denominational. Parents and pupils do not have the choice of a non-religious school. Parents already have the right to opt their child out of such activities in School.”

He explained how he thinks this threat has come about because of Nicola Sturgeon’s recent desire to adopt the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Among basic rights for children, Humanist Society Scotland say adopting this means that not allowing children to opt out of religious observance is not in keeping with the convention.

About this convention, MacRae said: “The Scottish Government’s proposal to incorporate UN treaty on the rights of the child infers that they will follow England and Wales and allow senior pupils their own choice…

Teen Stranded at Sea for 49 Days Turns to the Bible and Prayer to Survive

Teen Stranded at Sea for 49 Days Turns to the Bible and Prayer to Survive

A 19-year-old boy who was stranded at sea for seven weeks said, he survived by reading his bible and heeding the advice of his parents to pray.

Indonesian teen Aldi Novel Adilang was set adrift in the Pacific Ocean while working as a lamp keeper on a floating fish trap some 80 miles off of the coast of Indonesia. Adilang had worked as a lamp keeper for three years, continuously lighting the traps lamps to attract fish. Once a week his company would come out to the floating trap to collect the fish and restock Adilang’s hut with food, water and fuel.

In Mid-July, however, everything changed. Heavy winds shook the fish trap, known locally as a rompong, and snapped the moorings that held it stationary, casting him adrift. Over the next 49 days, Adilang would drift thousands of miles from home headed toward Guam, with no paddle or engine.

Within the first few days, the teen ran out of supplies and had to survive by using the hut’s wood to cook fish and drinking seawater that was filtered through his clothes to dispel of the salt.

Indonesian diplomat from the consulate in Osaka, Fajar Firdaus, told The Jakarta Post, “Aldi said he had been scared and often cried while adrift. Every time he saw a large ship, he said, he was hopeful, but more than 10 ships had sailed past him. None of them stopped or saw Aldi.”

Newsweek reports that at one point Adilang…

United Methodist African Bishops Reaffirm Church’s Stance Against Gay Marriage, Oppose Schism

(Photo: Facebook/United Methodist General Conference)Delegates meet at the United Methodist Church’s 2016 General Conference in Portland, Oregon.

The United Methodist Church’s African bishops have recently reaffirmed their support for the traditional definition of marriage, as well as opposition over possible schism within the denomination.

The UMC Africa College of Bishops released a statement Monday stemming from their official meeting held Sept. 3-7 in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

According to their statement, the bishops held extensive discussions regarding the denomination’s debate over homosexuality, which many believe may lead to the UMC splitting.

“… we reaffirm our position as traditionalists and view marriage as union between Man and Woman as clearly defined in scripture and affirmed in our COB 2016 statement in Lake Junaluska, and at the Africa extended cabinet (Ghana, February 2018), and at the May 2018 COB in Chicago, Illinois,” stated the bishops.

“… we remain faithfully committed to our consecration vows as Bishops of the church to ‘maintain the unity of the church.'”

Next February, the UMC will hold a special session of General Conference to resolve the debate over whether to change the church body’s official stance against homosexual acts and same-sex…

Pope acknowledges abuse scandals driving people from church

Francis referred directly to the crisis convulsing his papacy on the fourth and final day of his Baltic pilgrimage, which coincided with the release of a devastating new report into decades of sex abuse and cover-up in Germany.

He told a gathering of young people in Estonia, considered one of the least religious countries in the world, that he knows many young people feel the church has nothing to offer them and does not understand their problems.

Those complaints recently poured into the Vatican through surveys commissioned ahead of a major meeting of bishops starting next week on how to better minister to young Catholics.

“We know – and you have told us – that many young people do not turn to us for anything because they don’t feel we have anything meaningful to say to them,” Francis told a gathering of Catholic, Lutheran and Orthodox young people.

“They are outraged by sexual and economic scandals that do not meet with clear condemnation, by our unpreparedness to really appreciate the lives and sensibilities of the young, and simply by the passive role we assign them.”

He said the church wants to respond to those complaints transparently and honestly.

“We ourselves need to be converted,” he said. “We have to realise that in order to stand by your side we need to change many situations that, in the end, put you off.”

It was a public admission of the church’s…

Catholic Bishop Arrested in India After Nun Accuses Him of Raping Her 13 Times; Church Defends Him

(Screenshot: YouTube/Mathrubhumi News)Bishop Franco Mulakkal arrested in India on September 21, 2018.

A Roman Catholic bishop was arrested on Friday in Kerala, India, following accusations that he repeatedly raped a nun for over two years.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal had been summoned by police on September 19, and after three days of interrogation over the accusations, he was officially arrested.

The Kerala diocese has denied the accusations and argued that there is “anti-Christian” sentiment involved in Mulakkal’s arrest, however, which has prompted unrest and protest from those supporting the nun.

“It is a fake allegation. We are all with the bishop,” the Rev. Peter Kavumpuram, a spokesman for the diocese, told CNN.

“There is an anti-Christian movement; people are trying to manipulate the truth,” he added.

Vijay Sakhare, inspector general of police of Kochi Range, Kerala, insisted that there is enough evidence to charge Mulakkal, however.
