Democrats Intensify Calls for Impeaching Trump as Transcript Is Released

House Democrats increased their demands for impeachment Wednesday following the release of a phone call transcript in which President Trump asks Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to “look into” allegations against Joe Biden’s son.

Trump on Wednesday said it was a “nothing call.”

“It’s the single greatest witch hunt in American history,” Trump told reporters, adding he had a “great” call with Zelensky.

“There was no pressure [on Zelensky],” Trump said.

Even before the transcript was released, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday said the body would begin an impeachment investigation.

Democrats allege Trump urged Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential candidate, in order to find political dirt.

In the phone call, Trump discussed Biden and his son, Hunter, who was named a paid board member of a Ukrainian gas company, Burisma Holdings, in 2014. The company was investigated in 2013 by a Ukrainian prosecutor. Trump alleges Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, profited from his father’s position as vice president.

In the call, Trump tells Zelensky: “There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you…

Harry, Meghan and baby Archie meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu

The four-month-old royal made his first appearance of Harry and Meghan’s Africa tour by posing with one of the heroes of the anti-Apartheid movement as he was held by his proud parents.

Archie was the centre of attention as the group, which included the archbishop’s daughter Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe.

The archbishop’s daughter also joked about his comfort in front of the camera, saying: “You like the ladies. He’s going to be a ladies man.”

The veteran Nobel Peace Prize winner, who was effectively the leader of the liberation struggle during Nelson Mandela’s long imprisonment, said he was “thrilled by the “rare privilege and honour” to meet the royals.

The 87-year-old cleric spent half an hour with the couple and Archie at the historic premises of his Legacy Foundation in Cape Town, the Old Granary, a restored centuries old edifice built by slaves.

For the informal meeting Meghan sat with Archie on her lap and Harry beside her, while the retired archbishop and his daughter sat opposite them.

The group laughed as they watched the duchess take her son’s arms and dance with the young royal who appeared to be wearing dungarees, a top and socks.

Footage of Meghan and Harry making their way to see the elderly statesman has been posted on the couple’s official Instagram account.

Archie is carried by Meghan and the four-month-old is seen smiling and laughing as the Sussexes…

Archaeological Evidence Points to Discovery of Biblical Kingdom of Edom

Archaeological Evidence Points to Discovery of Biblical Kingdom of Edom

Recent discoveries by archaeologists indicate a discovery of the biblical kingdom of Edom, often presumed by secular historians as a “biblical myth.”

Sky News reports that scientists have uncovered technological advances made by the ancient people that could indicate Edom existed.

Edom was a neighboring enemy state of Judea located southeast of the Dead Sea. According to the Christian Post, Edom is mentioned over a hundred times in the Old Testament and was born from the descendants of Esau, Jacob’s twin brother.

According to the Sunday Times, the discovery “flies in the face of many historians who have dismissed [Edom’s existence] as a myth.”

Researchers from the University of California and Tel Aviv University made the discovery in the Arabah Valley. They excavated a 6,000-year-old copper production site called “Slaves’ Hill.” Layers of smelting waste from the copper helped scientists create a picture of the “technological leap” those in the region made.

Scientists used a process called radiocarbon dating to put a timeframe on the smelting waste, also known as slag. It revealed lower concentrations of copper, which told the researchers that more had been extracted. This leap, according to team leader Erez Ben-Yosef, shows how society progressed from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. Workers became more efficient in the second half of the…

Bishop announces retirement amid cancer battle

The 62 year old has led his diocese, which covers Belfast and other parts of Northern Ireland, for the past twelve years – a job which he said was an “amazing privilege and joy”.

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018, Bishop Alan took a sabbatical while he underwent treatment.

He also took part in a clinical trial which he hopes will help others in future.

Speaking about his decision to step down, he said: “The last 12 months have been exhausting and it has been difficult to focus on anything other than my treatment plan. I have just received my last proton injection as part of the clinical trial and this stage of the journey is complete. I now need time to recover and regain my strength and energy.

“Having advanced prostate cancer means that I will be receiving quarterly hormone injections for the rest of my life and will have very regular check-ups with my oncologist. There are no guarantees, but it is hoped that I will be free of further treatment for years to come.”

Bishop Alan will retire on 31st December this year and is expected to serve over the Christmas period.

Paying tribute, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All-Ireland, Most Rev Dr Richard Clarke, said: “With our prayers, we all wish for Bishop Alan a happy and fulfilling retirement.

“We know that the decision to retire on grounds of ill-health has been a difficult and painful one for…

Alabama High Schoolers Recite Lord’s Prayer at Football Game despite Prayer Ban

Alabama High Schoolers Recite Lord’s Prayer at Football Game despite Prayer Ban

Christian students at an Alabama high school are pushing back against an atheist group after the school received complaints from the group about a pre-game prayer.

According to Faithwire, the anti-faith group, the Freedom From Religion Foundation, complained that Opelika High School in Alabama violated federal law by praying over the loudspeaker before a game. The group said a parent came to them and said they wanted “to move their children out of the district.”

In response to the complaint, the district told Opelika leadership that they could only have a “moment of silence” before games.

“We recognize that the United States of America is a nation of laws and we will abide by the current law,” OCS Superintendent Mark Neighbors said.

“Our students are allowed to pray, but our coaches are not allowed to participate,” he added, referring to the letter which alleged that coaches were praying with students.

The students, however, responded to the complaint as well. Before the Sept. 13 kickoff, a group of students recited the Lord’s Prayer together and out loud.

“You’re taking [prayer] away from the majority, so now we’re having to go about it a different…

What does the Bible say about same-sex activity?

NOTE: The following article was written to further clarify this excerpt from Bruce B. Miller’s Leading a Church in a Time of Sexual Questioning.

The question of how the church should balance our call to uphold biblical truth with the biblical mandate to love and minister to those around us can be difficult to answer as it pertains to a variety of subjects.

Perhaps none are as divisive, however, as when that question is applied to our interactions with members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Some fall short by violating the clear teachings of Scripture on showing respect and grace to those we encounter in an effort not to violate the clear teachings of Scripture on the issue of same-sex activity. Others fail by going too far in the other direction and affirming that which the Bible condemns as sinful. Still more fall short by trying to ignore the question altogether and attempt to live in blissful ignorance of the subject.

In each circumstance, we limit our ministry not only to members of the LGBTQ+ community but also to those outside that group carefully watching to see our response.

In Leading a Church in a Time of Sexual Questioning, Bruce Miller offers a very helpful guide for how we can better think about our approach in light of both the gospel message and the larger context of God’s approach to fallen humanity.

In the excerpt that follows this introduction, he helps us gain a greater appreciation for the complexities inherent to that discussion while also calling us to take an honest assessment of the degree to which our behavior would line up with that of Christ.

To fully understand the conversation he’s asking us to have, however, we must first have a well-reasoned and firm foundation on how God sees the sin of same-sex activity. Miller affirms repeatedly throughout his book that acting on a homosexual orientation is sinful, but he largely treats that position as an assumption in his excerpt.

Sinful…

Anti-conversion laws to limit Christians in Indian state

The law, in Himachal Pradesh state, is designed to prevent ‘forced conversion’ but Christians fear it will be used to put limits on their ability to pray for people and offer help.

Similar laws are already in force in six other states (Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Uttarakhand) and are gaining in popularity because it is believed that forced conversions happen and need to be prevented. Hindu radicals are calling to impose them at the national level.

A priest performing a conversion ceremony will also have to give a month’s notice and people who reconvert to their original religion are exempted from this requirement.

The bill prohibits the ‘offer of any temptation in the form of any gift or gratification or material benefit, either in cash or employment, free education in a reputed school run by any religious body, easy money, better lifestyle, divine pleasure or otherwise’.

The Christian freedom charity Open Doors suspect this could now mean anyone praying for someone else’s healing will be accused of enticing people into forced conversion.

The bill suggests seven years of jail for forced conversions, while the existing 2006 Freedom of Religion Act, which the new bill seeks to revoke, was proposing three years.

Any person or organisation violating the provisions will also not be allowed to accept donations.

The Ministry of Home Affairs…

5-Year-Old Survives after Dad Jumps in Front of Moving Train while Holding Her

5-Year-Old Survives after Dad Jumps in Front of Moving Train while Holding Her

On Monday, 45-year-old Fernando Balbuena-Flores threw himself and his 5-year-old daughter in front of a train in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx in New York City. Miraculously, the little girl survived.

According to witnesses who talked to the New York Post, the suicidal jump happened around 8 a.m. when the Manhattan-bound 4 train came around the corner. Though Flores’ body was “cut in half,” 5-year-old Ferni managed to survive after the train halted.

“I watched as that train came around that corner, and I saw as the man jumped, and I see the little feet hanging out,” said one witness, Jennifer Hub.

Two men jumped onto the tracks to help Ferni belly-crawl out from under the train. The only injury she sustained was a trickle of blood from her forehead.

“Little by little, my love!” one witness called out to encourage Ferni from the train. “Little by little!”

The suicide came as a shock to Flores’ wife, Niurka Caraballo. Though Flores had been hospitalized for mental health concerns six times and took medication, Caraballo told the police her husband seemed normal when he woke up, got dressed, and left to take his daughter to school like every other day.

But at the station, Flores made a disturbing call to his wife.

“She couldn’t understand what he was saying,” Luis Sanchez, a godfather to the couple’s younger son,…

How can Christians love the LGTBQ community well without compromising truth?

Disclaimer: In the following excerpt from Bruce B. Miller’s Leading a Church in a Time of Sexual Questioning, he largely treats his position that same-sex activity is sinful as an assumption his readers will share. However, that stance is not readily transparent in the following excerpt.

Due to the oftentimes divisive nature of the discussions surrounding the topic of homosexuality, Denison Forum wants to make it explicitly clear that we likewise believe the Bible’s condemnation of same-sex activity. However, that does not mean that homosexuals are any further away from God’s redemption than any other sinful person. For a longer discussion, see “What does the Bible say about same-sex activity?”

Now, consider this excerpt, where Miller offers a very helpful guide for how we can better think about our approach to this issue in light of both the gospel message and the larger context of God’s approach to fallen humanity.

An excerpt from Leading a Church in a Time of Sexual Questioning

One Sunday in December during the season of Advent, I felt led by the Spirit to invite any lesbian and gay people listening to my sermon to come talk with me and tell me their stories.

On my heart was how difficult the holidays are for many lesbians and gays whether they have come out to their families or not. Almost invariably, not all the family is fully welcoming at the Christmas celebration. I shared that I wanted to shower each one with the Father’s unconditional love.

Some took me up on my offer and I had several multi-hour fruitful conversations, all of which were healthy but also all included elements of pain. Too many stories had this plot line: “I grew up involved in church and tried to follow Jesus. Then as a teenager I experienced unwanted same-sex attractions that I tried to get rid of. They created unspeakable pain, confusion, and shame. When I tried to talk about how I was feeling, I was made to feel even more ashamed,…

Justin Welby says in House of Lords that parliament’s reputation has sunk “very, very low”

After Boris Johnson’s prorogation of parliament was deemed unlawful by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, peers were summoned back to the chamber at 3pm on Wednesday – with MPs returning to the House of Commons at 11:30am.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, sitting with Bishop Sarah Mullally and the other Lords Spiritual, asked the minister of state for departing the EU, Lord Callanan, whether there would be more openness if the government sought another Brexit extension.

He asked: “Would the noble Lord agree with me that parliament has, justifiably or not, seen its reputation sink very, very low over the last few months and one of the ways of dealing with that is transparency.

“Will he therefore – regardless of how many letters there may or may not be – will he undertake that the government will be completely transparent and honest in the spirit, and not merely the letter of the law, about the actions they take over the next few weeks in connection with an extension?”

Lord Callanan replied: “We always endeavour to be as transparent as possible with regard to these matters whilst of course, still preserving the confidentiality of the negotiations.”

Later on, the head of the Church of England joked that he knew all about big divisions, saying the debate going on “‘demonstrates the total division across parliament, which is only a shadow of the immense divisions across the…
