‘We’re gonna take this to church’ Stormzy performs Blinded By Your Grace at Glastonbury
In Stormzy’s set on the Pyramid stage on Friday night he challenged those watching to think about racial inequality, using a sample of a David Lammy MP speech from the House of Commons about discrimination in the justice system, raising the problem of knife crime and racial prejudice in ballet.
The rapper won Best Grime Act in 2014 and 2015 at the MOBO awards and his debut album Gang Signs and Prayer was the first grime album to reach number one in the UK.
In his first rendition of Blinded By Your Grace, he introduced it by saying: “This is what it sounds like when Glastonbury meets God…this is a God tune. This is everything.”
He then walked off as Chris Martin, the singer from Coldplay came on to play keyboard, shortly joined on the stool by Stormzy for a spotlit duet where they sang:
“I’m blinded by your grace
Every night, every day
And I was lost, yeah
But ever since you found me
I’m blinded by your grace
Through the darkness you came
And I’ll be alright
With you by my side”

Abortion Is the ‘Dismembering of a Living Child,’ Supreme Court Justice Says
The U.S. Supreme Court declined Friday to revive Alabama’s ban on a specific grisly abortion procedure, but not before Justice Clarence Thomas criticized the institution for its moral logic.
The case involved a 2016 Alabama law prohibiting dilation and evacuation (D&E) abortion — a late-term procedure in which an unborn baby is torn apart limb by limb, until the womb is empty. Pro-life critics, including Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, have labeled it “dismemberment abortion.”
The U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the law, although two of the three judges indicated they would have upheld the law but were bound by Supreme Court precedent.
Thomas joined his colleagues in affirming the circuit’s decision but said the Supreme Court eventually must face the fallout from its past abortion decisions.
“The notion that anything in the Constitution prevents States from passing laws prohibiting the dismembering of a living child is implausible,” Thomas wrote.
He quoted the circuit court’s decision in describing the procedure in excruciating detail: “It bleeds to death as it is torn limb from limb. It can, however, survive for a time while its limbs are being torn off. . . . The Democratic debates and the National Radio Quiet Zone: How to find “perfect peace”
The first round of debates among twenty of the Democratic Party’s candidates for president is over. As today’s Wall Street Journal notes, Joe Biden was the focus of much of last night’s debate as the candidates sparred over “the role of government in health care and other issues.”
In other news, the United Methodist Church appears to be moving closer to a formal split four months after the denomination strengthened its ban on LGBT clergy and same-sex weddings. The House Committee on Education and Labor discussed this week whether religious freedoms should be curtailed with regard to sexual freedom and other “civil rights.”
And San Diego, known as one of America’s most beautiful cities, is also making news because of a Department of Justice study estimating that its underground sex trafficking economy exceeds $800 million a year.
“Let us not grow weary of doing good.”
I would like to offer you some really good news today. But to get there, we need to discuss the bad news.
Political vitriol, sexual immorality, threats to our religious freedoms, and the escalation of sex trafficking are just some of the challenges we face today. If you’re like me, reading the news can be discouraging on two levels.
One: Our culture’s incessantly immoral trajectory can drag us along with it.
Every morning renews the steady drumbeat for “reproductive freedom” or “marriage equality” or “death with dignity.” (Have you noticed that those who champion such unbiblical positions are exceptionally good at rhetorical reframing?)
Since much of the media is demonstrably more liberal than most Americans, we should not be surprised when media coverage makes it seem that the country is more liberal than it is. But since perception is often reality, the cultural peer pressure of our day can wear us down.

Over 1000 bishops and spouses signed up for Lambeth Conference 2020
The Archbishop of Canterbury, who hosts the event around every 10 years, has invited participants across 40 Anglican Communion provinces and five Extra Provincial areas.
The aim of the 11 day event is to meet other Anglican leaders from around the world and discuss important matters for the wider communion and shape the Church’s priorities for the next decade.
However, in recent years a rival conference has started called GAFCON for members of the Anglican communion who feel the Conference is departing from the Bible in some areas.
The Archbishop of Cape Town, Dr Thabo Makgoba, who is also on the planning team, urged clergy this week not to boycott the Lambeth conference but to “come round the table”.
The team organising the Lambeth Conference announced this week that registrations included 566 bishops and 435 spouses.
Phil George, the CEO of the Lambeth Conference Company said: “At its heart, the hope for the Lambeth Conference 2020 is to have the full voice, diversity and experience of our global family represented.
“We are delighted that so many of our international guests have already confirmed their attendance at this historic event and we look forward to welcoming more registrations in the weeks and months ahead.”
It will be held in Canterbury, with much at the University of Kent, from the 23rd July to 2nd August 2020.

A few months ago—for reasons pertaining to my family, my work, and my writing—I sensed it was time to bring this season of weekly preaching to a close, and so I stepped aside. On my last Sunday as teaching pastor, the church gave me a leather-bound book filled with handwritten letters of appreciation from members of the congregation. The most meaningful letters mentioned specific sermons that intersected with crucial life moments. Again and again, I was amazed at the power of God’s Word to give us the medicine we need at the moment we need it! As I reflect on the great honor I had to serve as the primary preacher in our church, I keep coming back to three main sources of joy.
