Concerned Citizens League Stands with Texas Synagogue Hostages and for Security in Synagogues Across Chicago

A hostage situation in a Texas Synagogue was resolved Saturday night with the help of FBI hostage rescue teams. All four hostages were rescued. Concerned Citizens League stands with those hostages, and wants citizens in Chicago and around the United States to be better prepared for such situations in the future.

Concerned Citizens League (CCL) was founded to empower the Jewish community to protect their shuls and communities through training, education, and support. The group provides credible threat and incident information to its members through its official intelligence channel and serves as the community’s formal liaison with local and state law enforcement. Upon hearing of the news, Concerned Citizen League President and founding member Chiam Naiditch was concerned but not surprised. “Unfortunately, antisemitism is on the rise in our country and across the world. The Synagogue is a very visible sign, and so it’s a target,” said Naiditch. “We’re grateful to the federal and local authorities who resolved the terrible situation in Colleyville, and we’re doing our best to be sure it doesn’t come to that in Synagogues in our own region.”

Concerned Citizens League has developed training programs that enhance the security of Jewish communities and institutions. It undertakes threat and vulnerability assessments, provides community training and education, and offers consultation on safety and security matters to Shuls and Jewish institutions throughout the Chicagoland area. It also provides a Shul Safety Officers Program. Formally vetted and trained Shul Safety Officers (SSOs) receive 65 plus hours a year of training in Stop The Bleed, CPR/AED, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, de-escalation, safety, security, and self-defense. Members also undergo extra security training from top experts in the country and around the world. “Just this week, our SSOs are receiving an additional two-day training from Masada Tactical, LLC, in preparation for exactly these kinds of events,” said Naiditch. The two-day course in Israeli Active Shooter Response is being given by former Israeli Reconnaissance and American SWAT Instructor Tzviel “BK” Blankchtein, who founded Masada Tactical in 2011. The training was planned well in advance, but Naiditch said it couldn’t be more timely.

Avraham Hershkovich, Vice President of CCL and administrator of one of Chicago’s largest religious boys schools, agreed. “Antisemitism doesn’t go away,” said Hershkovitch “But can you imagine if every Shul in America had a dedicated community member, connected with local law enforcement and ready to respond? We’re working here in Chicago to make sure that our Shuls are prepared.”

About Concerned Citizens League: CCL was founded by members of Synagogues in the Chicago area to help Synagogue members obtain instruction, information, and support. Our goal is to educate and standardize advanced training for safety officers and citizens. Our graduates are well versed in Stop The Bleed, CPR/AED, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, de-escalation, safety, security, and self-defense. Our members are a diverse group of medics, educators, professionals, and businessmen. All concerned citizens. We provide increased safety and awareness, in compliance and communications with local law, for our houses of worship. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Pope Francis prays for flood victims in Brazil

POPE Francis has prayed for flood victims in Brazil, hard hit in recent weeks causing scores of deaths and forcing major displacement.

The Holy Father’s thought for Brazil came after he prayed the Sunday Angelus with the crowd of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square.

“I express my nearness to the people hit by strong rain and flooding in various regions of Brazil during these past weeks,” Pope Francis said.

“I am especially praying for the victims and their families, and for those who have lost their homes. May God sustain the efforts of those who are providing relief.”

Since the beginning of the year, hundreds of thousands of families have faced devastating flooding in the state of Bahia, Brazil.

The floods have displaced more than 93,000 people and have taken 26 lives.

People are scrounging for their few remaining belongings, and frantically searching for loved ones.

According to the website ReliefWeb, Brazil’s flood tragedy is man made.

In recent years, the country has continued building dams in order to expand hydropower despite the havoc caused to the environment and Indigenous communities.

Motivational Doctor has got some Health News for you – Clogged arteries result from the build-up of a substance called plaque in the arterial walls. Clogged arteries increase your risk of developing other health complications like a heart attack or stroke. Some of the most common risk factors for clogged arteries are:

Supreme Court of Pakistan rules to release Christian Nadeem Samson

On January 6, under increasing pressure from the international community and with the support of der Pakistani lawyer Saif-ul-malook and continued support from investigative journalist Gary Cartwright and Willy Fautré of Human Rights Without Borders, the impossible has proven possible. The judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan this morning agreed to bail and ruled that Nadeem Samsom should be released immediately. This Christian man has been in jail since 2017 for alleged blasphemy

On January 2, 2022, Andy Vermaut as a representative of the International Alliance for the Defense of Rights and Liberties (AIDL) & fundamental rights movement Postversa in the Bed & Breakfast Hortense in the Belgian city of Koekelare had a meeting with the biological brother Shakeel Anjum Raphael (here we use a pseudonym) of Nadeem Samson who came especially from New York to the Belgian city of Diksmuide and municipality of Koekelare to discuss the latest strategy to get his brother liberated. Andy Vermaut:”Meanwhile, I was in constant contact with Willy Fautré, Gary Cartwright and Manel Msalmi and the International Secretariat of the International Alliance for the Defense of Rights and Liberties (AIDL) in Paris to keep pressure on and keep this case on the international agenda. Hard work certainly pays off.”

Andy Vermaut says: “First of all, I would like to highlight the support of the Catholic Church in this matter and the help of his brother Shakeel Raphael who worked day and night to get this on the international agenda. Without the National Commission for Justice and Peace, which bore the legal costs of the case, the release would have been impossible. Now there are still some administrative formalities to be settled. The release order must now be put in an administrative power order. The National Commission for Justice and Peace has announced that it will pay all the legal costs, because without their financial support, no proper defense would be possible. Of course, we cannot yet declare total victory… After his release, he is not at all safe in Pakistan.

The National Commission for Justice and Peace will have to make sure that he gets a safe house, where he will be permanently protected against death threats. Even though the man is innocent, he must now also fear for his life in Pakistan. I would also like to give special thanks to Laurent Brihay of the press club in Brussels for the high-level conference we were able to hold there on July 28 at the Press Club Brussels Europe under the auspices of the Alliance Internationale pour la Défense des droits et des Libertés (AIDL) from Paris. Afterwards, we organized a second conference at the Press Club in Brussels, where I, Andy Vermaut of the International Alliance for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms specifically put the case of Nadeem Samson, wrongly accused of blasphemy, on the international agenda in this conference, as did advocate Willy Fautré, Director of Human Rights without Borders, also Peter Van Dalen, Member of the European Parliament and Manel Msalmi, President of the European Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms. Without the cooperation of all these phantastic people and without the constant support of Gary Cartwright, Nadeem Samsom would still have to remain in prison.

You cannot force such a release alone, you have to be able to work together in a coalition of organizations, otherwise you cannot stand up to a state power. Together we were the white knights who still believe in justice for Nadeem Samson, and often we are labelled as naive, but the victory in this case, is proof of the power of justice. Yiehaaa. On September 17, I also delivered a letter on this subject to the External Action Service in Brussels, which was very difficult for them to accept. I had to insist for at least half an hour, but today the proof has been delivered that those who dare to persevere can actually achieve a lot and our systems, however bureaucratic they may sometimes be, can still function. So I will always remember January 6, 2022 as the day of justice.”

John Piper’s Son Says Fundamental Christians Shouldn’t Have Kids

Abraham Piper, who is the son of popular theologian and author John Piper, recently posted a 36 second message on TikTok, wherein he berated fundamentalist Christians for having children.

“It’s wild that just anyone basically can have kids,” Piper said. He then quickly clarified the demographic he was referring to, saying, “I’m not talking about teenagers or drug addicts or whatever group that might come to mind when you think of less than suitable parents.”

Changing his voice to a sort of mocking tone, Piper said, “I’m thinking about stand-up American citizens that also happen to be fundamentalist Christians.”

“These people should not be having children,” Piper exclaimed while smiling into the camera. Read more …

Festival of Praise (FOP)

Festival of Praise (FOP) is a free annual musical event that hosts a night of praise, worship and prayer for the city of Manchester and the United Kingdom. Its first edition was held in 2011 at the O2 Apollo Theatre Manchester. It came about as a result of a long awaited vision given to the Senior Pastor of Jubilee Church – Pastor Abimbola and Folu Komolafe. After earnestly seeking the face of God for revival and the growth of the body of Christ in Manchester and the UK at large, this vision was birthed and resulted in the catalyst for revival called Festival of Praise.

Apart from promoting revival in the city of Manchester and the United Kingdom, FOP is also an avenue for bringing together people of diverse backgrounds and cultures from across the UK to celebrate our faith in Jesus Christ as the Saviour of the world and also encourage community cohesion. The Christian Community in Manchester and UK has rallied behind the vision of making Festival of Praise a successful annual event.

FOP has featured over 60 ministers bringing down the presence of God since 2011, including Mary Mary, Sinach, Hillsong London, Nathaniel Bassey, William McDowell, Tasha Cobbs, Ron Kennoly, Israel Houghton, Matt Redman, Kirk Franklin, Todd Dulaney, Pastor Donnie McClurkin and Social Beingz – to mention a few. More Churches in Thantlang Burned Down by the Tatmadaw

Myanmar (International Christian Concern) Although the town in Christian-majority Chin state is now deserted after four months of intense fighting, and hundreds of houses have been burned to the ground, the Burmese Army (Tatmadaw) continues to set houses and churches in Thantlang on fire.

According to Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO), on December 30, the Assembly of God Church and one of the Thantlang Association of Baptist Churches’ buildings were burned down by the Tatmadaw along with more than 50 structures.  Light Infantry Battalion 222, 269, and Light Infantry Division 66 are to be blamed for the arson fires, which started from four different blocks and lasted for nearly nine hrs.

Drone footage shot by CHRO also shows fires raging inside buildings, charred churches, collapsed schools, and ruined homes. Associated Press reports that the Tatmadaw is again employing a tactic of destroying entire villages where there may be support for the opposition. Satellite imagery the AP obtained from Maxar Technologies shows that more than 580 buildings have been burned in the northwestern town of Thantlang alone since September.

In the meantime, a 16-yr-old youth, arrested on Christmas eve while visiting a prayer mount in Chin state’s capital Hakha, was being paraded yesterday by Tatmadaw soldiers on the streets to identify townsfolk suspected of anti-junta activities. Another teenager is held incommunicado and might be tortured under LIB 266 custody. Read more …

Pope Francis at the Angelus: God wants to live with us and in us

Pope Francis said on Sunday that Christ’s Incarnation shows that God wants to live with us and in us. Speaking at the Angelus on Jan. 2, he described Christmas as an invitation to see the world from God’s perspective.

“Dear brothers and sisters, often we keep our distance from God because we think we are not worthy of him for other reasons. And it is true. But Christmas invites us to see things from his point of view,” he said.

“God wishes to be incarnate. If your heart seems too contaminated by evil, if it seems disordered, please, do not close yourself up, do not be afraid: he will come. Think of the stable in Bethlehem. Jesus was born there, in that poverty, to tell us that he is certainly not afraid of visiting your heart, of dwelling in a shabby life.”

In his live-streamed address, Pope Francis reflected on the day’s Gospel reading, John 1:1-18, which proclaims that “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

He said: “And this is the word: to dwell. To dwell is the verb used in today’s Gospel to signify this reality: it expresses a total sharing, a great intimacy. And this is what God wants: he wants to dwell with us, he wants to dwell in us, not to remain distant.” Read more …
