Christian Post Report – Derek is back and he’s explaining to Meredith why a woman answered his phone when she called. Grey's Anatomy Facebook/ Grey’s Anatomy

Derek tells Meredith what he feels, on Grey’s Anatomy.

Meredith is skeptical as she says that it seems like he came home because he knew he was in trouble. Derek says he came home not because of that, but because they needed to work on their marriage. Meredith leaves for the hospital, leaving Derek at home.

A flashback is shown of Derek in D.C. with a resident named Renee. They’re in a lab, and she tells him that she got into this field because she wants to find a cure for autism. Derek asks her about what motivated her, and Renee tells him that it’s because of her sister. They are seen glancing at each other over a microscope, and something seems to be developing between the two of them.

At the hospital, Alex runs into Callie and Dr. Pierce, and Alex tells them that Derek came home last night. They are devastated, as nothing good could come of this—surely he came home to apologize for doing something wrong?

In another flashback, Derek sees Renee in the break room and she looks upset. Derek asks her if she wants to talk about it, and they do. She says that she’s frustrated with her research. Suddenly, there’s tension between the two of them, and Derek gets up and tells her to get some sleep.

Back at the present time, Meredith’s streak ends when a young man she’s operating on dies on the table.

A flashback is shown of Renee celebrating because of a breakthrough in her research. She tells Derek that she could kiss him, and the tension between them returns. As Derek turns to leave, Renee grabs his hand and tells him to stay. They share a kiss in the lab.

Meredith returns home and sees Derek in the kitchen, and she’s visibly mad at him, but Derek is not about to give up on them yet.

In the last flashback, Derek pushes Renee away and tells her that he loves his wife. He runs out of the lab, and we see his keys and phone on the lab table.

“I thought DC was everything, and I was wrong,” Derek tells Meredith. “You. You, you’re everything. I love you, and I’m not gonna stop loving you…I don’t want to live without you. And I’m going to do everything in my power to prove it.”

Meredith says, “I can live without you. But I don’t want to. I don’t ever want to.”

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC.

The NHL May Expand to Las Vegas

NHL NHL

The NHL is looking to expand has Las Vegas in its sights

The NHL is looking to expand again. It has been the policy of the league for this generation to expand into non-traditional hockey markets, and even though that process has been met with very mixed results (the Atlanta Thrashers lasted 12 years before being relocated to Winnipeg) the league it set to once again expand into non-traditional markets.

There is a NFL style arena being built in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bill Foley is heading a group that wants to bring a NHL franchise to that city. They started a season ticket campaign in February, as part of the first hurdle to being approved by the league for a team. In a little less than two months they have deposits for 8,000 season tickets and are now focusing their efforts on corporate support. In Vegas, that means casinos and they will likely find a lot of support being the first major American sport league to potentially place a franchise there.

Part of what is driving the NHL’s expansion it not the west instead of more traditional hockey markets in the east and in Canada is the unbalance of its league currently. The NHL reorganized its league a few years ago and that led to 16 teams in the eastern conference and just 14 in the western. It is the leagues goal to erase that imbalance.

“To the extent our board makes a decision that expansion is something they’ll consider or pursue, which they haven’t yet, as an initial matter we have to look West first due to the geographic alignment of our teams,” Deputy NHL commissioner Bill Daly said. “We have 14 teams in the Western Conference, 16 teams in the East. That’s an imbalance that we’ll want to remedy.”

That means the NHL will look to the west to add teams before it pursues markets like Quebec that lost teams when the Canadian dollar created a competitive unbalance for the franchise north of the U.S. border.

Armed Muslim Brotherhood Fanatics Attack Egyptian Church Over Plans to Honor 21 Beheaded Coptic Christians

Coptic Christians pray at a symbolic funeral for the 21 Egyptian Christians who were beheaded by Islamic State earlier this week, in Jerusalem’s Old City February 18, 2015. Egypt directly intervened for the first time in the conflict in neighbouring Libya on Monday after Islamic State released a video showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians.

A group of armed Muslim fanatics, who some have identified as Muslim Brotherhood members, attacked a church over plans to honor the 21 Coptic Christians beheaded by terror group ISIS in the Egyptian village of Al-Our. The church’s priest said that he made local police aware of plans for the attack, but the authorities offered no protection.

Fr. Makar Issa, the priest of The Virgin Mary Church in Al-Our village, told International Christian Concern: “I called the police many times and asked them to come to guard us but they came late and after their arrival they didn’t guard the church. They stopped in the entrance of the village. Even still they allowed the cars of the attackers to enter the village and attack us and the church without any intervention from them to protect us,” the priest said.

“I charge the responsibility of what happened to the policemen,” he added, “and I accuse them of inaction, indifference and complicity.”

At least six Christians were wounded in the attack, with three suffering serious injuries.

The village is the home town of 13 of the Coptics that were executed in a video published by ISIS in February.

Daily News Egypt reported on Sunday that some witnesses said the attackers are Muslim Brotherhood members, the former political party in Egypt that was ousted from power in 2013 and later outlawed.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, when “scores of mostly young Muslims” are said to have gathered in the Minya governorate after midday prayer. The attack is believed to be in protest to plans to build a new church honoring the beheaded Coptic Christians.

The Virgin Mary is the town’s only church, servicing close to 2,500 Christians.

Al-Our resident Milad Nageh described the attack to ICC: “At 8 p.m., a group of armed Muslim young men in six or seven cars from nearby villages stormed our village. Many Muslim fanatic young men joined those who came from the other nearby villages and attacked the [Virgin Mary] church.”

He added: “They shot guns at the church and pelted the church with stones and blocks,” he added.

“They smashed the sign of the church, destroying the ground of the church yard and breaking the widows of the service buildings of the church. They also burned a car that was parked in the front of the church.”

Fr. Issa said that there were growing concerns that the church might be attacked.

“On Thursday evening, March 26, I was informed that the next day, Friday, there will be Islamic demonstrations in the village against us,” the priest revealed.

He added that during Friday morning Mass “Bishop Raphael, who came from Cairo to take part in the prayer of the memorial of 40th day of our martyrs, informed that some Muslims from the village and the other nearby villages will organize march in our village after their Friday noon prayer.”

The New York Mets Cut Security at Citi Field

Citi Field The New York Mets are being sued after cutting security at Citi Field

In each and every sport there are owners who are hated, despised, and who never get the benefit of the doubt. Most of that is usually self inflicted wounds such as Jeffery Loria in Montreal and Miami, Daniel Snyder in Washington DC and the Wilpon family in New York. The Wilpons own the New York Mets. So, faced with losing money and dwindling attendance,  the Mets organization started cutting back on security at Citi Field.

Christian Post Report – “Due to the cut backs in the budget [2013] we will be unable to maintain the high quality of security that the ballplayers, guests and staff are accustom [sic] to,” a Mets budget report obtained by CBS Sports reads. “In addition the greetings at the gates, exchange of pleasantries at the gates and along with the quality [sic] of the searching [sic] at the gates will be reduced.”

These documents have come to light as the security officers who were dismissed due to the budgetary concerns are suing the team. Security guards at Citi Field fell on average from 186 to 130. The full report also says that many parts of the stadium were left uncovered by security,

In a post-Sept. 11 world, cutting security is never very popular, yet there has not been a higher number of reported incidents due to the lack of security at Citi Field. However, there was a brawl at a 50 Cent concert held at the field in 2014.

The Mets ownership has been notoriously frugal, and this news added to the fact that they charged minor leaguers to participate in mandatory off-season workouts only paints a larger picture of an ownership being tight with their money. Fair or not fair, that is the legacy of the Wilpons’ ownership of the Mets.

The NFL Wants to Grow Internationally

NFL NFL

The NFL wants to expand its playoff tournament

The NFL wants to expand its presence internationally. It is already playing three games a year in London, England and by all reports making serious inroads there. Now there are reports that the NFL would like to play regular season games in Germany and in Mexico, along with a proposal to play the Pro Bowl in Brazil. There are also efforts to play games in Canada and China.

This is certainly smart business as most of the large U.S. markets are part of the NFL money-making machine already.

The best way to judge if foreign markets are good for the league or not are to play regular season games there. The NFL tried to play preseason games in London and Toronto, Canada and that effort was largely unsuccessful. Over 103,000 fans showed up for a regular season game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Phoenix Cardinals in 2003 in Mexico City, but the league has not returned there since.

If the league is going to play games that matter in foreign markets those games have to come from somewhere. Some NFL teams have not been as willing to give up one of their eight regular season home games. However, the NFL is enacting rules that will force teams into giving up a date. For teams to host a Super Bowl, they must give up a home date, and now there is word of teams who don’t play in a permanent stadium being forced to as well.

With as many as two teams set to relocate to Los Angels that would give the NFL two more games it could export to a foreign market. Which markets are deserving of that and will embrace the NFL is a larger question.

Black Pastor Explains Why He Decided to Become a Leader in a White Church

Kevin Smith (Photo: Screen Grab via ERLC)

Kevin Smith, assistant professor of preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and teaching pastor at Highview Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, speaks at the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission’s Leadership Summit on Friday, March 27, 2015.

Christian Post Report – A black pastor who dared to be different by challenging racially stereotypical church models to become a leader in a white church in Louisville, Kentucky, explained at The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention’s leadership summit Friday that he did it in pursuit of the unity of the faith.

Kevin Smith, assistant professor of preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and who is also teaching pastor at Highview Baptist Church in Louisville, explained at the summit themed, “The Gospel and Racial Reconciliation,” that becoming a pastor in the predominantly white church was something he had to challenge himself to achieve and maintain because of the cultural differences between the white church culture he transitioned into and the black church culture in which he was raised.

“Blackness can be weighted and graded in a way that whiteness just isn’t. You got the look, you got the look,” he said of being white at the summit held in Nashville, Tennessee. “A matter of fact, it’s so superficial at the look level that throughout American history, some people from other ethnicities have been able to pass. So it’s not really about content it’s just about the look.”

“But blackness is judged on a few different things. Ideology, philosophy, solidarity, things like that, that are more than just the look. So you often get questions like, why in the world would you want to pastor in a white congregation?” said Smith.

“When I was making the transition, I had good well-intentioned godly brothers I love right now and I really value their input and they helped me in the decision-making process with more theological and biblical kind of questions,” he explained.

Even these godly brothers couldn’t understand why he was doing it. They said: “Hey brother, the black church needs strong expository preachers. You are an expositor… you need to be in the black church,” he added.

His motivation, explains Smith, was to step out of his comfort zone. He was also driven by his understanding of biblical Scripture preaching oneness and unity and his personal exposure to multiple ethnic and racial groups.

“You will respond to me differently when we are sitting across from one another versus when we are on Twitter or Facebook. I was motivated by Jesus’ prayer, Paul’s command that we endeavor to keep the unity of the spirit,” he said of his decision.

“Why Highview? We, I thought we needed some models in Southern Baptist life that are different than some of our previous models,” he said. “I wanted a model other than our church planting model and also I wanted a model [answering the question] what does it look like when people of other ethnicities submit to black leadership?”

“If you search the library, you can find books on the black pastor, the black preacher. Historically, black pastor, the black preacher has been something within the black community, than the white preacher has been in the white community,” Smith explained.

“There ain’t no books called the white preacher ’cause in a very real way the church was the only thing the black community had after emancipation. Not political power, not economic power, or not other things. In a real way the black preacher in a black setting, especially up until recent decades has been like ‘The Man,'” he continued.

In the white church he explained the preacher’s role and many other things are culturally different. One of the biggest challenges for multiethnic churches, he explained is simply the “hard language of worship.”

“The churches I come from when the preacher is preaching the word and you agree with the word folks are like ‘glory!’, folks are like ‘hallelujah!’, folks are like moving. When Highview is shouting, this is what white folks do,” he said motioning a hand clap as the audience laughed. “When brothers come I say look man the clap is the shout.”

“I just love the magical moment of preaching the Gospel, exalting the Lord Jesus Christ and having some old white lady come up and say I grew up in a racist family, I grew up with all kinds of crazy thoughts, I’ve been to some wrong places but that Gospel is so good. You’re my brother,” he added.

“So why would a black pastor, pastor a white church? I’m only 47, 48, but I want to die trying to do what Jesus called us to do. You know, obeying the Scripture rather than die being comfortable…” he ended.

Sprint Cup Series Has a Tire Controversy

#4 team reuters.com

Kevin Harvick’s #4 team has had its tires confiscated by NASCAR after a few of the last races

Christian Post Report – Anytime one team goes out and dominates the Sprint Cup series circuit there start to be a lot of rumblings about how exactly that team has found some kind of edge outside of the rule book. Right now the rumblings are that Kevin Harvick’s no. 4 team have found a way to manipulate the tires so they retain grip as the tire performance wears off during the race. That may be true, it may not be but that is what the NASCAR Sprint Cup series garage is talking about.

NASCAR is doing its job by seizing tires after the races each week. They did seize tires of the no. 4 team (after the last two races) to have inspected by an neutral third party. NASCAR fans are use to these kinds of goings on, back in 1998 when Jeff Gordon was winning a modern day record 13 races and driving away with the points title there was much the same talk and NASCAR stepped in and had his tires inspected. Nothing ever came of that.

“I don’t think everybody realizes that they’ve taken our tires 17 times in the last 18 months. Every time we finish first or second, our car goes back to the R&D Center with the tires we won the race on. NASCAR’s doing their jobs, and everybody else is making a big deal about it, right?” Harvick’s crew chief Rodney Childers told NBC’s NASCAR Talk.

The rumors are that teams are drilling holes in tires to make them softer so they keep their grip as they wear out. NASCAR is full of colorful stories about being outside the rules as much as baseball, is yet every time these rumors build to a critical mass, like they are right now, nothing much ever comes of it.

Childes put it best: “We beat ’em every week, so they better get working on their cars a little bit, I’d say.”

Sony Cuts PlayStation TV Price in Half in UK Due to Sluggish Sales

PlayStation TV PlayStation TV coming to North America this fall with a universe of games to stream, download, and play. Facebook. June 25, 2014.

Sony has announced it would be dropping the price of their microconsole, the PlayStation TV in half for the UK market.

Christian Post Report – Sony’s microconsole, the PlayStation TV, will be going at half price in the UK, as the Japanese multinational video game company struggles to move their units.

Initially thought to be a series of clearance sales, the massive discounts were eventually put down to the microconsole’s slow moving progress in the midst of the company’s faster selling PlayStation 4.

Sony’s microconsole has only been around for a little more than three months in the U.K. since it first launched in November 2014, and already it is feeling popularity pains over its preferred PS4 cousin.

Initially retailing at £84.99, Sony has cut down its retail asking price to virtually half at £44.99. This may spell good news for consumers who have been looking to get their own unit, but have balked at the prohibitive price.

PlayStation TV, also known as PlayStation Vita TV in Asia, allows users to stream their PS4 games to another HD TV unit. It will also enable them to play other Sony consoles such as PSP, PS Vita and PS One Classics on a single HD TV.

Critics labeled the microconsole as “over-priced and under specced” when it first hit the market, and with its new price point, Sony may finally see their slow selling microconsole pick up some sales speed.

Sony has been promoting the price cut, telling potential users they can benefit from the PlayStation TV’s advanced features and technology to improve their home entertainment experience.

The company is also pointing out the PlayStation TV’s accessibility and convenience of allowing users to play in any room in the home to further expand their gamplay experience.

Given the muted response to the microconsole to date, the price cut, if levied by vouchers for free major PS Vita Games, may just work to start moving Sony’s merchandise.
