Christian Post Report – Current World Cup title holders India must defeat the top ranked one day team today if they are to have the chance to defend their title in the final this weekend. However, Australia themselves are four times champions and will be desperate to progress to make it five World Cup wins this year at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Australia captain Michael Clarke has said ahead of the game, “The fact we’re playing India now is extremely special. I think you’ll see two teams at the top of their game wanting to play their best cricket, I’m really confident both teams will put on a great show.”

Today’s game takes place at the Sydney Cricket Ground, a venue where Australia have lost one one of 14 one-day internationals against India.

However, India will be confident having had an amazing World Cup so far, and their bowling attack has become particularly dangerous to compliment their strong batting line up. They have been undefeated in this World Cup so far, and have looked like they could go all the way this year again.

The SCG should offer India’s spin bowlers help, although India are so confident in their bowling attack they believe with or without spin they can win.

Rohit Sharma has pointed out: “If you look at the tournament, we’ve taken 70 wickets in seven games, distributed between the spinners and the fast bowlers. So it doesn’t matter how the wicket behaves. If it suits the fast bowlers or the spinners, we’ve got everything covered in those two areas.”

He added, “We just need to keep doing what we’ve been doing. We’ve played some really good cricket in the World Cup and it’s just a matter of two more hurdles.”

Amanda Knox Guilty or Innocent? Trial Verdict Latest News – Appeal Decision From Court of Cassation in Meredith Kercher Murder Case Due Friday

Amanda Knox will be anxiously awaiting a verdict from Italy’s highest court this week in the 2007 murder case of British exchange student Meredith Kercher. A verdict is scheduled for Friday.

Christian Post Report – Italy’s top court is scheduled to issue a ruling on whether they uphold the convictions of American citizen, Amanda Knox, and Italian native, Raffaele Sollecito.

Amanda Knox (Photo: Reuters/Anthony Bolante)

Amanda Knox pauses emotionally while speaking during a news conference at Sea-Tac International Airport, Washington after landing there on a flight from Italy, October 4, 2011. Amanda Knox returned home to Seattle one day after an Italian court cleared the 24-year-old college student of murder and freed her from prison.

The former couple were initially found guilty in the case, however, that initial conviction was overturned on appeal after the pair had spent four years in an Italian prison.

Knox returned to the United States as soon as she was freed, however, the Italian criminal system allowed the prosecution to bring the case again, and on that hearing the pair were again found guilty.

Things have now moved up to Italy’s highest court, the Court of Cassation, which will decide to either uphold the conviction, overturn it, or it could order the case to be reheard at the lower court.

Experts have stated that it is unusual, although not unheard of, for the Court of Cassation to overturn the last decision when a case comes to them, however, such is the controversy surrounding the Kercher murder case, that many Knox and Sollecito supporters hold out strong hope that their convictions will once again be thrown out.

If the court upholds the convictions, Sollecito will be imprisoned immediately, however, Knox remains in the United States, and it is likely that Italy – which has an extradition agreement with the United States – would apply for the U.S. to hand her over.

If Knox’s guilty conviction is upheld, it is extremely likely that her legal team will apply to the European Court and attempt to get the conviction overturned on human rights grounds.

One man, Rudy Hermann Guede, born in the Ivory Coast, has already been convicted and pleaded guilty to the murder. He, however, opted for a fast-track trial and struck a deal with prosecutors to have his conviction reduced to 16 years.

Early in the investigation process into Kercher’s murder, local Italian police managed to extract an admission of guilt from Knox, however, she has since retracted that admission, and has claimed that she gave it in exhaustion and confusion after long and aggressive questioning from Italian police. She claims she was shouted at, hit, and convinced not to have her own lawyer for the inquisition at the time, and was under extreme stress and duress when she gave her admission.

International interrogation experts have weighed in and analyzed the claims and have stated that it is entirely possible that someone under the pressure Knox was placed under would have made such an admission. They have claimed that Knox’s description of events were in line with well-known interrogation techniques used in the past to coerce admission from suspects. However, those techniques have been widely condemned and are now no longer widely used as it has been found that in many cases, when a subject is placed under extreme conditions, many would say anything they believe interrogators want to hear to make the inquisition to stop.

Numerous international DNA experts have also condemned the reliance on the convictions on DNA evidence found on Kercher’s bra clasp and a knife recovered from Sollecito’s kitchen.

The bra clasp for instance was not recovered by prosecutors for 46 days after the killing, and had been moved since the time of the murder, presumably by investigators. That, along with the relatively tiny amount of DNA found on the clasp, has led many to believe the DNA evidence is unreliable and has a very high probability of being the result of DNA contamination.

The knife having Knox’s DNA on the handle has also been rebuked as Knox clearly had used the knife in Sollecito’s apartment for cooking, giving an obvious explanation for why her DNA was on the knife. There was also no blood evidence, or Kercher DNA, on the knife, making many believe there is a real chance the knife is completely unrelated to the case.

The courts that have convicted Knox and Sollecito have heavily leaned on the side that it is up to the defense team to prove that the DNA evidence was a result of contamination – something many international experts have said is impossible. The court that overturned the conviction, meanwhile, leaned heavily on the side that prosecutors must prove that no contamination had occurred. There is little documentation of the processes Italian investigators used to touch evidence, transport evidence, and how the bra clasp had moved from its initial position over the 46 days it lay in Kercher’s bedroom following the murder.

Martin Mayhew Admits He Bungled the 2011 NFL Draft

Martin Mayhew has made several misguided draft picks but even he admits to messing up the 2011 Detroit Lions draft class

Christian Post Report – Martin Mayhew was once the protégé of Matt Millen, who is generally considered a bad NFL General Manger. Longtime suffering Detroit Lions fans were hopeful that Mayhew had learned the way to not run a football team, however, after almost eight years on the job, it is becoming increasingly clear Mayhew has many of the same defects that his former mentor had. Those defects stand out most notably in the NFL draft.

When Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley left the team in free agency it wiped out the 2010 and 2011 draft classes for the team. At the NFL meetings this week in Phoenix Mayhew admitted that he was “over aggressive” in the 2011 draft. That class has been marred by gambles taken by the Lions that were destined to fail.

It seems like a good idea to draft Fairley to play next to Suh. However, in four NFL seasons Fairley has never lived up to his potential. It is hard to fault Mayhew for that. But his second round selection of WR Titus Young looked so much like a Millen move that it is hard to conceive that story ending up in a different way that it has. Another Lions high round draft pick was taken out of the league and is now facing a lengthy prison sentence.

Worse than that was the trade back up into the second round to draft RB Mikel Leshoure. The Lions traded away a third and a fourth round pick to take Leshoure and just three years later was buried on their depth chart. Four years later and he is out of the NFL entirely. That is three wasted draft picks that could have been used to infuse talent in the roster.

The Lions traded their sixth round pick hat year for Lawrence Jackson who is also out of the league and used their seventh round pick on Johnny Culbreath who they cut before he made his NFL debut. No other NFL team signed him.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks Renew Their Rivalry

Christian Post Report – There are not a lot of heated rivalries among sports teams anymore. Sure, there are the fans of one team that don’t really like the other team, but by and large, the truly heated rivalries have become a thing of the past. In an era of free agency where players move around from team to team, more it is hard to build a heated rivalry the likes of the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche or the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos.

Baseball teams in the same division play each other 18 times a year, and the hope beyond ticket sales in both cities was a rekindling of the rivalry between divisional opponents. There has not been a lot of that but the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks have certainly entered into a pretty heated rivalry.

In a Sprint Training game no less yesterday there were four batters hit by pitches and a number of ejections as the two teams from the National League West went at each other once again.

There has been bad blood brewing between these two teams for a few years now. The former regime in Arizona was pretty pro throwing at other players and that led to several on the field scuffles at least one with the benches clearing. With a new manager and GM in place in Arizona it would seem that things would cool off a bit but when a couple of payers are doing whatever they can to be noticed all bets are off.

Not to condone throwing at players or fighting in baseball, but it is these kinds of rivalries that make sports fun and it’s a shame in the free agent era we don’t see more of them.

Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak introduces Jeremy Lin during a press conference at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California, Thursday, July 24, 2014.

Jeremy Lin is officially sharing his prayers with fans, months after starting a prayer group.

Christian Post Report – Lin, the 26-year-old Los Angeles Lakers guard, sent an official email to those subscribed to his prayer group titled, “Jeremy Lin’s Prayer Requests 7.” The NBA player shared specific prayers from his “upcoming prayer list” which includes learning to give thanks and praise.

Since Lin’s team are not making the playoffs, he also prayed for a specific mindset that would enable him to continue playing for God’s glory and surrender each game to God with humility.

Lin also called for prayer for his teammates and coaches, that their tough season may help them get saved.

“This season has had its fair share of discouragement, disappointment and brokenness,” Lin wrote. “Please pray that their vulnerability from a tough season would allow them to seek and see Christ, whether through joining chapel, Bible study, daily devotionals or a church.”

While Lin also praised God for a YouTube video that shed light on homelessness, he asked that people would pray that they also come to Christ and have their needs met.

“Prayer that these individuals would have open hearts to truly know Jesus Christ,” Lin wrote. “Also prayer that God would provide for their physical needs, whether it’s for housing, a job or stability in general.”

He went on to pray for a worldwide spiritual revival, and admitted that he shied away from big prayers at times.

“Often times, I’m afraid to pray big prayers because they seem so intangible or too unrealistic, but I have to remind myself that God is bigger than anything I will ever face or encounter and my biggest dreams are nothing compared to the power He possesses,” Lin said. “So prayer for global revival!”

Last year, Lin introduced the prayer group to fans which sends an email of prayers to those who subscribe on his website.

“The NBA star revealed that he would begin a prayer group that fans can be involved in.

“The journey I’ve been on has had its ups and downs and I appreciate all of your support throughout. Some of you have asked how to pray for me so I decided to start a prayer group where I can send out requests for those that want to pray and support,” Lin wrote on his website.”Please feel free to share with others you think would be interested. So much of what happens is out of our control, but prayer has been a place I have consistently found peace with God.”

New Android Phones 2015: Xiaomi Wants to Beat Android Competition With New Smartphone Dubbed ‘Ferrari’

Xiaomi Note Youtube/ScreenGrab

Xiaomi is slowly becoming a household name not only in its home market, but throughout Asia as well.

Christian Post Report – That is because it is only one of the very few phone makers that are willing to develop high quality handsets, but charge a minimal fee for each device.

The Xiaomi Mi3, the first Android device from the Chinese maker that captured the hearts of customers, retailed for less than $300 for its base model.

That “base” model has a 5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 2GB RAM, a Snapdragon 800 chipset, and 13MP primary camera, not to mention its aluminum body and metal frame.

To keep it simply, Xiaomi produces the best quality phones at the best prices. And in a new report by Phone Arena, it looks like the phone maker will have a new device to offer.

Based on the report, a mysterious Android-powered device was spotted on GFX Bench benchmarking site. Dubbed as “Ferrari,” the Xiaomi smartphone is said to be a mid-ranger – but what a high quality mid-ranger this would be.

In the leaked specs from the benchmark, the Xiaomi “Ferrari” boasts a 4.9-inch (5-inch) display, 2GB of RAM, and an octa-core CPU.

Running the show is a 64-bit Snapdragon 615, and Adreno 405 to handle the graphics.

Also on board are 12GB of internal storage, a 12MP primary camera and a 5MP front shooter. The device is expected to run on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box.

Xiaomi has announced a duo of high-end devices in January, named the Mi Note Pro, and the Mi Note. The company has also launched the Redmi 2, and has even hit Indian retailer Flipkart with flying colors.

Once this “Ferrari” phone becomes official, budget-conscious smartphone fans will have more options to enjoy Android 5.0.

Upcoming HTC Phones 2015: Butterfly 3 Arriving to Japanese Carrier KDDI Soon?

HTC Butterfly 2 Youtube Screenshot/ file

HTC Butterfly 2

Christian Post Report – The HTC One M9 is truly one heck of a device, and it is the manufacturer’s most powerful smartphone to date.

However, the Taiwanese phone maker is working on other projects as well, such as the rumored One M9 Plus that is slated for a release a few weeks from now.

In a new report by Phone Arena, a new successor of the Butterfly lineup is allegedly under development.

Rumored as the HTC Butterfly 3, the Android-powered smartphone is expected to hit KDDI in Japan in the next quarter, which begins next month.

Considering the recent history of the Butterfly lineup, it is rumored to get better specs than the One M9 itself.

Some alleged specs include a 5.2-inch display with QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440) resolution, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 810 chipset or a MediaTek variant, and a 32GB built-in memory.

The device is expected to run on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, has a microSD card slot, and ample battery to power the entire smartphone.

While there are still no leaks about the camera department, the Butterfy lineup has a rich history of outperforming its flagship counterparts.

Last year, the Butterfly 2 launched with a 13MP camera at the back, beating the One M8 that only had 4MP UltraPixels of resolution.

With that it would not be surprising if the Butterfly 3 would get a 20.7MP shooter at the back, plus a secondary sensor similar to the one that came up the HTC One M8 last year.

In the report, the HTC Butterfly 3 is rumored to support VoLTE, and arrive in several colors such as white, blue and red.

Christian Post Report – Apple is coming off a great couple of weeks primarily due to its newly announced devices – the Apple Watch, the new MacBook 2015, and the next generation MacBook Air and Pro models. However, there is still one missing device that Apple has not shed light upon for the past two years.

For fans of the Cupertino manufacturer, they may be familiar with the numerous iPad Pro rumors buzzing around the industry. Yet, almost two years later and there is still no sign of the huge tablet. A new report may show some promise and give hope to iPad Pro hopefuls.

According to a recent report by Christian Today, Best Buy has just offered its existing iPad minis on sale.

In the report, the iPad mini and iPad mini 2 can be bought for only $199.99 and $249.99, respectively. Those are for the basic models that have 16GB of built-in memory and supports only Wi-Fi connections.

Meanwhile, the iPad mini 3 will be priced a bit higher, costing $349.99 on the same 16GB storage and Wi-Fi only edition.

In addition, the original iPad Air is reportedly getting a price cut as well, with a price tag of $379.99 for the 16GB, Wi-Fi only model (grey color). The 32GB version, on the other hand, costs $429.99.

Based on previous rumors, the iPad Pro could have been Apple’s answer to the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 when it first launched a couple of years ago. Microsoft has successfully followed up its tablet-laptop hybrid with the Surface Pro 3 last year, and another version this year.

Yet, the Cupertino manufacturer has not announced any details about the iOS-powered device.

Jeremy Lin News: Lakers Coach Calls Lin ‘an NBA Player,’ Will LA Re-Sign Him?

Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak introduces Jeremy Lin during a press conference at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California, Thursday, July 24, 2014.

Christian Post Report – Jeremy Lin is coming off his best stretch in the season.

After playing poorly during the past few months, the 26-year-old point guard managed to get himself going right after the All-Star Break.

According to a report by Lakers Nation, coach Byron Scott has given Lin another crack at the starting line-up.

The former Harvard standout was originally part of the starting five for the Lakers after Hall of Famer Steve Nash went down with another back injury. However, 20 games into the season and the Lakers had yet to find their form and weren’t winning.

As a result, Lin was designated to the bench, and played limited minutes in the several weeks that followed.

But to make matters worse for LA, Kobe Bryant suffered another season-ending injury, completely taking the hope away from the Lakers to ever land a playoff spot.

But after the All-Star Break, Lin was playing better than ever before for Los Angeles. The Linsanity star has averaged 14 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds a game since the break.

While the Lakers still have not found a way to win consistently, it is definitely good news that Lin and his teammates are playing with more cohesiveness as a unit than earlier this season.

As a result of Lin’s recent performances, including a 29-point, 5-assist outburst against the Sixers, coach Scott has commended his floor general’s strengths and weaknesses this season.

“He’s had his ups and downs this year,” he said, “but he’s definitely an NBA player. We all know that. It’s just a matter of what happens in the draft and everything else that determines what we’re going to do with the free agent market.”

Megachurch Pastor John Lindell Urges Church to Vote Against Gay Rights Law; Says Homosexuality Is Distortion of God’s Creation

Rev. John Lindell (Photo: Facebook)

Rev. John Lindell

Christian Post Report – Declaring to his congregation that homosexuality is a distortion of God’s creation, Southwest Missouri megachurch pastor, Rev. John Lindell of James River Church, urged his followers in a recent sermon to vote to repeal Springfield’s contentious sexual orientation and gender identity law in that city’s local elections on April 7.

Question 1 on the city of Springfield ballot will ask voters whether they would like to repeal the amended version of the city’s Nondiscrimination Ordinance, which was expanded in October 2014 to include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes for housing, jobs and public accommodations.

“I do think it’s important for you to have at least heard from me my concerns relative to the repeal of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity bill. And if you live in the city of Springfield, we are asking you on April 7 to vote ‘yes,’ ‘yes’ to the repeal of the ordinance,” said Lindell, whose church attracts about 9,000 people weekly, in the March 15 sermon highlighted by News-Leader.

“It is possible for someone who has practiced a life of adultery to stop,” he noted in the sermon. “It is possible for someone who has been a life-long alcoholic to stop. It is possible for somebody who has a cutting tongue and a big mouth to stop. It is possible for someone who is engaged in homosexual behavior to stop.”

Despite the issue being a political conversation that could land Rev. Lindell in trouble with the IRS for speaking out, he charged that what he’s doing is perfectly legal but warned that if Christians don’t stand up against the ordinance, speaking out like he’s doing could soon be against the law.

“Addressing this topic or the subject of the upcoming vote from the pulpit is not against the law in this country, although it may be in the future. Nor is it outside the parameters of a Gospel ministry,” he explained.

“Let me put it to you this way: To those who struggle with same-sex attraction and say God made me this way, Paul’s point in Romans 1 is that our human nature has turned against what God intended and that is at the heart of all sin,” charged Lindell.

“Lest we think of God’s judgment primarily being lightning bolts falling from heaven on people, God’s judgment as it is expressed in Roman’s chapter 1 is that He gives every human being who rejects His Word and His way over to their own desires, which is a catastrophic judgment. We all have desires that are warped as a result of our fallen nature: pride, selfishness, greed, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, lust, envy, covetousness, chemical addiction. Our desires for things God has forbidden is a reflection of how sin has distorted us rather than a reflection of how Christ has made us,” he noted.

“If you’re a Christian living in the city limits of Springfield, I urge you to vote yes for the repeal of the ordinance. As you leave today, we’ll have [‘yes’ signs available for you to take with you to display.] And part of the reason the signs are going up is just simply the ballot language is confusing. You’d think if you were against the ordinance you’d vote ‘no,’ but no, you need to vote ‘yes,’ because you are for repealing the ordinance; so it’s a bit confusing,” he continued.

“All of us need to pray, we need to pray for the well-being of our city. For some who are sitting there and you are saying ‘well, you know, at least we don’t live in Springfield.’ “Let me just encourage you to consider that what happens in Springfield will happen in the rest of the area,” he said.
