Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Wins Re-Election, Becomes Israel’s Longest-Serving Prime Minister

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu waves to supporters at the party headquarters in Tel Aviv, March 18, 2015. Netanyahu claimed victory in Israel’s election after exit polls showed he had erased his center-left rivals’ lead with a hard rightward shift in which he abandoned a commitment to negotiate a Palestinian state.

Christian Post Report – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu won re-election on Wednesday with his ruling Likud Party, and promised to promptly form a new government to address the challenges facing his nation.

“Our country’s everyday reality doesn’t give us the luxury for delay,” Netanyahu said in a statement, according to The New York Times.

“The citizens of Israel rightfully expect that we will act quickly and responsibly to establish a leadership that will work for them in areas of defense, the economy and society just as we promised in this campaign — and just like we will now set ourselves toward doing,” he added.

BBC News noted that although exit polls had predicted a close contest between Likud and the center-left Zionist Union, the former established a clear lead over its rivals with almost all the votes counted. Likud is expected to receive 30 seats in the 120-seat Knesset, or parliament, allowing a coalition to take a majority of 67 seats, while the Zionist Union is projected to get 24 seats.

Netanyahu now looks set to become Israel’s longest-serving prime minister in his fourth term, which comes as a surprise to some, given than opinion polls said that Likud trailed the Zionist Union in the run-up to the election.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu touches the stones of the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest prayer site, in Jerusalem’s Old City, March 18, 2015. Netanyahu won a come-from-behind victory in Israel’s election after tacking hard to the right in the final days of campaigning, including abandoning a commitment to negotiate a Palestinian state.

“In the end Israeli opinion polls told the wrong story, yet again. Benjamin Netanyahu scored a much bigger victory than the exit polls had suggested,” BBC’s Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen said.

“In the last few days of the campaign he demonstrated yet again why he is such a formidable politician. The prime minister narrowed the gap with Herzog’s Zionist Union, and then overhauled it, by turning sharply toward the ultra-nationalist Israeli right.”

Zionist Union leader Yitzhak Herzog congratulated Netanyahu on his victory, but said that his party will not be giving up.

“Nothing has changed, we will keep fighting for a just society,” Herzog said.

Earlier in March, Netanyahu addressed Congress in a speech where he warned that a nuclear deal with Iran would leave the Jewish state in great danger.

“We have been told that no deal is better than a bad deal. Well, this is a bad deal. It is a very bad deal. We are better off without it,” Netanyahu said in the House of Representatives’ chamber, which was met with cheers by the Republican representatives.

The Israeli leader’s comments were criticized by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who said that she was “near tears.” The Democratic leader explained that she was “saddened by the insult to the intelligence of the United States as part of the P5 +1 nations, and saddened by the condescension toward our knowledge of the threat posed by Iran and our broader commitment to preventing nuclear proliferation.”

President Barack Obama refused to meet with Netanyahu during his visit to Washington, citing his own “policy” of not meeting with political leaders who soon face elections.

Obama did, however, ignore his self-imposed policy by meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron (who’s in the middle of his own political campaign) in January. After meeting with Obama, Cameron then lobbied politicians on Capitol Hill in an effort to thwart the passage of legislaton that would place additional sanctions on Iran.

The U.S. State Department also continues to face accusations that it illegally attempted to influence Israeli elections by financially supporting Netanyahu’s opponent. The department gave an estimated $350,000 in taxpayer funded grants to the OneVoice Movement, an American nonprofit that seeks a two-state solution that has a subsidiary in Israel called Victory 15, which CBN News described as a grassroots movement to unseat Netanyahu.

Jeremy Bird, a former campaign strategist for Obama, is also said to have been working against Netahyahu for V15.

The White House has not yet released a statement on Netanyahu’s victory, and said that it will withhold comments until a coalition government is formed.

“We’re going to give space to the formation of that coalition government,” White House political director David Simas told CNN.

“And we’re not going to weigh in one way or another except to say that the United States and Israel have a historic and close relationship and that will continue going forward.”

‘Sherlock’ Special Episode News, Update: Special Segment Will Be Set in Victorian Era

Sherlock (Photo: BBC/File)

British broadcaster BBC One previously released a photo showing “Sherlock” mainstays Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman sporting clothes reminiscent of the Victorian era.

Christian Post Report – The news set off Sherlock fans to speculate if the image teaser suggests that the popular detective show would now delve with time travel or that the cast is simply doing some cosplay.

To clear off the confusion, Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat speaks with Entertainment Weekly confirming that followers of the show will see a totally different timeline for its December special.

Moffat clarified that the upcoming special segment will take the beloved characters back to Victorian London. He further said that it would not be a part of the series’ forthcoming season 4 which, as reported, will likely to kick off in “early 2016.”

“The special is its own thing. We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble,” Moffat said.

Speaking about the fourth season, a report from Screen Rant confirmed that the trio episodes are already in the works and this might see some reduction of cast members.

“We have a plan … we practically reduced our cast to tears by telling them about the plan,” Moffat previously said during the 2014 Emmy Awards.

“Sherlock” Christmas Special is expected to air in the U.K. in December.

Actor Matt Bomer arrives at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California Jan. 11, 2015

Christian Post Report – After Jessica Lange confirmed that she is no longer returning to season five of “American Horror Story,” other cast members have been revealed by the show’s creators Ryan Murphy and Bryan Falchuk. During the 2015 Paleyfest, Murphy introduced some of the male actors who will part of the show’s upcoming season entitled “Hotel.”

Matt Bomer of “White Collar” and a frequent collaborator of Murphy and Falchuk, is reported to be the male lead. In an interview, he could not confirm if his character will have a romantic relationship with Lady Gaga’s character, but told The Hollywood Reporter that he was “down for any insanity the writers could imagine.” The actor is no stranger to “American Horror Story,” having appeared in one episode in the previous season.

Cheyenne Jackson is also reported to be joining the cast. Jackson’s collaboration with Murphy was when he played Vocal Adrenaline’s coach in “Glee.” The actor however does not know who his character will be in “Hotel” but said that he “was ready to jump in.”

After Paleyfest, Murphy announced through Twitter that Wes Bentley will also be a series regular. Bentley was a previous cast member of “Freak Show” and is also known for his role as Ricky Fitts in American Beauty and as the main villain in “Ghost Rider.”

Although there has been no confirmation, Kathy Bates who was in “Freak Show” and “Coven” is also expected to return to the anthology, according to the report.

The show’s creators have been mum about plot details. A release date is yet to be set but production will reportedly start in July, in time for the season premiere sometime late October.

This is the show’s fifth season on the FX network. The season premiere of “Freak Show” was said to be “the most watched telecast in FX’s history” according to TV by the Numbers. The show also has its share of awards from the Primetime Emmy Awards, the Creative Emmy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Presbyterian Church (USA) Changes Denomination’s Definition of Marriage to Include Gay Couples

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) holds its biennial meeting in Detroit, Michigan, June 14-21, 2014.

Christian Post Report – America’s largest Presbyterian denomination has approved an amendment to its constitution that officially changes their definition of marriage to include same-sex couples.

Last year Presbyterian Church (USA) approved a vote on an amendment to change their official definition of marriage from “a man and a woman” to “two people, traditionally a man and a woman.”

Known as Amendment 14-F, the proposed change to PCUSA’s Book of Order got the necessary number of presbytery votes on Tuesday.

“[Amendment 14-F] required approval from a majority of the denomination’s 171 regional districts, or presbyteries,” reported Fox News.

“The critical 86th ‘yes’ vote came Tuesday night from the Presbytery of the Palisades in New Jersey. … After all regional bodies vote and top Presbyterian leaders officially accept the results, the change will take effect June 21.”

At the PCUSA General Assembly held in Detroit, Michigan, last June, a majority of delegates voted for a recommendation to amend the Book of Order regarding marriage definition.

The Book of Order defined marriage as being between “a man and a woman,” with the new language changing it to “two people, traditionally a man and a woman.”

“A proposed amendment to change the constitution to include same-gender marriages in the church’s constitution passed the General Assembly but must be ratified by a majority of the church’s 172 regional presbyteries,” explained PCUSA in a FAQ document. “Presbyteries have one year to vote on the proposed amendment. If a majority ratifies the amendment, it would take effect June 21.”

Support for Amendment 14-F was notable from the onset, with the “yes” votes from the regional bodies, or presbyteries, outnumbering “no” votes early on.

By the second week of March, PCUSA was only seven votes away from Amendment 14-F succeeding, with 79 presbyteries voting “yes” and 37 voting “no.”

One of those 79 “yes” votes was the Presbytery of East Tennessee, which narrowly approved the amendment in a vote of 61-56 following a meeting in Chattanoga.

“We have a lot of students who come into our campus ministry with their story being one of hurt and shame given to them by the church,” said University of Tennessee campus minister Kally Elliott.

“Our goal is to share with them the love of Jesus Christ and to let them know that they are fully loved, fully welcomed as they are, who they are.”

This is not the first time that PCUSA has garnered headlines on its move toward greater acceptance of homosexuality within the church.

In 2010, the PCUSA General Assembly approved Amendment 10a, a measure that allowed for presbyteries to approve the ordination of noncelibate homosexuals.

In response to the passage of Amendment 10a, more than 150 congregations voted to disaffiliate from the mainline denomination.

Carmen Fowler LaBerge, president of the conservative Presbyterian Lay Committee, said in a statement released in response to the approval of the marriage amendment that it showed PCUSA surrendering to social norms.

“Any prophetic voice that the denomination may have once had to speak truth and call people to repentance is now lost,” stated LaBerge.

“All she (PCUSA) can do now is echo the voices of the world for she has abandoned the clarion call to bear faithful witness to the God who has clearly spoken on this matter.”

The match was evenly played, with both teams putting out nine shots each, while Dortmund enjoyed 59 percent of the possession.

And they should be able to try and use the positives from the first match if they want to turn things around and progress from home.

‘Gotham’ Cast News, Details: Young Joker Actor Teases Role Reprisal

Ben McKenzie as Detective Gordon talks to Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) FACEBOOK/ Gotham

Ben McKenzie as Detective Gordon talks to Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) in the 16th episode of FOX’s “Gotham”

Christian Post Report – “Gotham” Season 1’s Episode 16 titled “The Blind Fortune Teller” saw the introduction of one of DC Universe’s most cunning supervillains, the Joker, but on his yet younger age.

A composed, mild-talking young fellow at first, the character named Jerome (played by Cameron Monaghan) broke down mentally when Gotham’s finest detective, Officer Gordon (Ben McKenzie), deduced that he killed his own mother.

Followers of the show then witnessed the apparent transformation of Jerome which was manifested by his sinister expression. The segment ended but it wasn’t revealed whether the future Prince of Chaos was locked up in GCPD or some other “institution.”

Monaghan teased that he might be coming back for another appearance, perhaps a recurring involvement, and he “would love” to do it.

“When I was on set, we discussed the possibly of me coming back in the second or third season,” Monaghan told CBR news. “Nothing is set in stone yet. I think the producers have a firm plan for what they want to do, but I was not privy to it while I was filming. I would love to come back and do some more.”

IGN meanwhile speculated the likelihood of Jerome/Joker to be featured heavily on the show since the DC TV show creator Bruno Heller previously said that “The Blind Fortune Teller” was just the “beginning of the story.”

Speaking further with the publication, the young actor shared his enthusiasm of playing the iconic character.

“I only had that one scene to really show off, so I wanted to take advantage of it as much as I could. I was playing with the character’s intelligence a little bit there. I was lucky to get that scene where we get the turn, where we get that last punch line, where it’s revealed he’s been scheming all along. That moment is great. Like any actor, I was relying on the script to carry me, and I think it works,” he went on to say.

“Gotham” is currently on a short hiatus and will return this April 13 for a still unnamed 19th episode on FOX.

Martin Mayhew Draft Follies Have Cost the Detroit Lions Talent

Detroit Lions NFL/Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions now have a big need at DT, what will they do in free agency to fix that problem

Christian Post Report – It has not been a pretty off season for the Detroit Lions. They lost their best defensive player to a record breaking contract offered by the Miami Dolphins. They lost significant pieces of their defense in other free agent signings and their mismanagement of the salary cap he’s left them without a lot of cap space to fix the glaring needs in their roster. They also traded away the middle part of their 2015 draft to replace Ndamukong Suh.

To be frank the Detroit Lions are in this position because of their inability to draft well. General Manager Martin Mayhew took over the team during the 2008 season once the front office had finally grown tired of Matt Millen’s inability to build a winner in the Motor City.

When Nick Fairley signed with the St. Louis Rams that wiped out what was left of his 2011 draft class. When Suh signed with Miami that wiped out the last of his 2010 draft class. IN fact in his first three drafts only QB Matthew Stafford, TE Brandon Pettigrew, and LB DeAndre Levy. That is 20 picks over three drafts that yielded just three starters. That is not how a team rebuilds itself. Those picks should have been the nucleus of a new Lions roster moving forward.

Mayhew compounded those mistakes by twice draft tight ends in the first round. First in 2009 he traded WR Roy Williams to Dallas for a substantial return. He then used the first round pick acquired in that trade on Pettigrew who has become less and less important to the offense. Then in last year’s draft with the very real possibility of losing both his starting DT’s this offseason eh spent the 10th overall pick on TE Eric Ebron, while signing Pettigrew to a 4-year $16 million dollar contract extension. Most NFL team do not have one TE drafted in the first round, but the Lions have two. That underscores how poorly the Lions have used their draft picks over the years, and while they have failed to build a consistent winner.

Happiness Without Sin

But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
— Luke 11:28

Christian Post Report – It is hard for some people to believe, but you can have a happy life without sin. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:28). There is happiness in hearing, believing, and keeping the Word of God.

  • Greg Laurie
(Photo: rever Hoehne for Harvest Ministries)
Greg Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California and Harvest Orange County in Irvine, California, shares the Gospel with a sold-out crowd of 19,000 for Harvest America at the American Airlines Center and Victory Park in Dallas, Texas, Oct. 5, 2014.

To be honest, there is some happiness in sin. There is some fun in sin. I think sometimes that Christians are reluctant to admit that sin isn’t always miserable. In fact, the writer of Hebrews said that Moses “refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin” (11:24–25, emphasis added).

But sin comes with a price—a hefty price. I’m sure it would be very pleasurable to jump out of an airplane and fly through the air without a parachute. I think it would be the ultimate rush. I think it would be better than any roller coaster or any amusement. But then you are going to hit the ground. So there is fun for a time, but inevitably there is a payday.

There will be pleasure in sin for a season—temporarily. But then the repercussions kick in. The Bible warns that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). For a moment of pleasure, you can have a lifetime of regret. But if you keep the Word of God, you will be happy.

James 1:12 says, “Blessed is the man who endures temptation.” Sometimes you don’t feel that way when you’re tempted, because temptation is appealing of course. But when you choose to walk away from temptation, you’ll be glad that you did.

You can have a happy life without sin. And this comes from reading, studying, memorizing, and obeying the Word of God.

‘Fashion Police’ Cast News, Update: E! Executives to Recast Vacant Seats, Ex-Host Kathy Griffin Speaks Out

Kathy Griffin Reuters/File

Actress and comedian Kathy Griffin

Christian Post Report – A lot of things have been going on around E!’s hit reality TV show “Fashion Police.” Just the recent month, fans saw the departures of long-time hosts Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin.

For what appears to be a show already going down in a spiral, a report from TMZ indicated that E! executives are still keeping the popular celebrity fashion dissection show alive and have plans to improve it even more.

Sources for the media outlet informed that the network’s big bosses “have already met to discuss the future of the show” where their plans include “recasting” the open spots.

The unnamed insider went on to inform TMZ that E! could “possibly create a different show with the same concept.”

On related news, US Weekly mentioned in their report Griffin’s appearance with The View earlier this week. The 54-year-old comedian dished out some insights about the show she recently left saying that everything is “sort of like a dog pile.”

“You’re there with the microphone and the audience, and you’re hoping to take this audience on a ride. It’s a little different than what felt to me, sort of like a dog pile,” Griffin said.

Griffin has long been half-hearted getting involved with the show as what she revealed with Howard Stern during her previous interview at SiriusXM.

“I don’t really feel it was my best work, I’ll be honest,” Griffin said. “I just don’t think that it’s really what I do.”

Meanwhile, Griffin was asked by “The View” hosts about her opinion as to whether or not “Fashion Police” will survive without her and Osbourne, the stand-up comic answered.

“I mean look: since I don’t work there anymore, that’s like asking me what’s going to happen on Ray Donovan or House of Cards,” she said.
