President Trump, First Lady Receive Warm Welcome at College Football Playoff National Championship Game

President Trump, First Lady Receive Warm Welcome at College Football Playoff National Championship Game

President Trump enjoyed an extremely warm welcome when he showed up at the College Football Playoff National Championship game in New Orleans Monday night. Arriving at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, the power couple was met with rapturous applause, a standing ovation and relentless chants of “USA!”

It wasn’t all positive, however. True to form, many liberals bemoaned the sight of actor Vince Vaughn shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries with President Trump and his wife. “I always knew he was Republican but this, so gross,” one Twitter user lamented. Another added that they were “just profoundly disappointed” by the interaction, which was caught on camera.

The absurdity of the situation was commentated on by Jim Daly at Fox News, who noted that many of the proponents of today’s corrosive “cancel culture” trend consider Trump “such a pariah that they even suggested Vaughn’s acting career should be effectively over for deigning to even talk with him.”

Also at the game, was acclaimed Christian recording artist and Louisiana native, Lauren Daigle. As Christian Headlines previously reported, Daigle performed a stunning rendition of “Star-Spangled Banner” which was quickly met with praise on Twitter.

Fixer Upper star Chip Gaines praised Daigle tweeting, “THE Lauren Daigle!!  Ladies and…

Same-Sex Marriage Is Officially Legalized in Northern Ireland

Same-Sex Marriage Is Officially Legalized in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has officially legalized same-sex marriage.

According to the Christian Post, starting Monday, Jan. 13, same-sex couples were able to register to marry in the country and those who were already married would be able to have their union recognized by the law.

England’s parliament passed the legislation last year to legalize both gay marriage and abortion in Northern Ireland.

The rest of the United Kingdom legalized gay marriage in 2014, and in July 2019, the United Kingdom government said that Northern Ireland’s then restrictive laws on abortion and gay marriage were out of compliance with human rights laws.

Christian leaders, however, say with the approval of same-sex marriages in Northern Ireland, they are worried about free speech.

“When same-sex marriage registration starts on 13 January another set of robust protections will be needed to protect those in Northern Irish society who disagree with same-sex marriage,” said Colin Hart, director of The Christian Institute, a nondenominational Christian charity.

Northern Ireland Secretary Julian Smith said that the legislation “is being amended to underline that mere criticism of same-sex marriage is not an offense.” He also said that equality law is also being amended to protect religious organizations and employees from “being sued for declining to take part in a blessing or other event marking a civil same-sex…

When a president is impeached, what should a Christian do?

Only three presidents have been impeached, and none of them have been removed from office, so there will be little precedent to guide the Senate when it convenes to consider the case of President Donald Trump.

Impeachment is such a rare occurrence that historian Doris Kearns Goodwin said that the American public needs a “giant civics lesson” about it.

My Faith Votes, a nonpartisan group that calls Christians to “pray, think and vote,” issued a four-page guide to the impeachment process, saying that “Christians must be informed and committed to faithfully praying for our nation during this process (1 Timothy 2:1–2).”

So that we might be better informed Christians, let’s discuss why the Founding Fathers included impeachment in the Constitution, what merits removal from presidential office, the Christian foundation for the impeachment process, and what Christians can do during the impeachment process.

Then we can use our knowledge as the basis for our prayers, remembering that prayer for all of our nation’s leaders is a biblical mandate (1 Timothy 2:2).

What is impeachment?

Our lesson today will begin with the key passage in the Constitution that deals with impeachment and removal from office: “The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”

The use of impeachment as a way to remove corrupt officials from office dates in British history to as early as the fourteenth century. Although treason and bribery are familiar concepts, constitutional lawyers disagree about the meaning of “high crimes and misdemeanors,” and some think that the Framers of the Constitution intended it to be vague, leaving room for Congress to interpret it.

In Impeachment: An American History,  Dr. Jeffrey A. Engel wrote that the word “high” indicated crimes against…

Jeopardy! Gameshow Embroiled in Israeli-Palestinian Debate after Question Sparks Controversy

Jeopardy! Gameshow Embroiled in Israeli-Palestinian Debate after Question Sparks Controversy

Popular game show Jeopardy! has come under fire for allegedly taking a position on the Arab-Israeli conflict. The bizarre saga began when a question was asked about the exact location of the Church of the Nativity – a holy site thought to be near the birthplace of Christ.

When contestant Katie Needle replied with the answer, “What is Palestine?” she was told that was the wrong answer; but when opponent Jack McGuire interjected with, “What is Israel?” he was quickly awarded the $200. McGuire was confident in his answer and the show kept moving. In contrast, Needle looked utterly bewildered by the exchange.

The brief moment prompted an outcry from various pressure groups who accused the show of openly denying the existence of territory they believe to be rightfully Palestinian. According to the Bible, Bethlehem is a town located in Judea and Samaria, however, in today’s context, it is considered to be part of the Palestinian-controlled “Area A” of the West Bank.

Following the outcry, Jeopardy quickly asserted that the question was actually never meant to make it to air.

“In the process of taping this clue, ‘BUILT IN THE 300s A.D., THE CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY’ we became aware that the clue was flawed as written and…

Beth Moore, Christine Caine Visit Dallas Hospital ‘Armed’ with Prayer for Priscilla Shirer’s Surgery

Beth Moore, Christine Caine Visit Dallas Hospital ‘Armed’ with Prayer for Priscilla Shirer’s Surgery

Authors and speakers Beth Moore and Christine Caine marched around a Dallas hospital on Monday in prayer for their friend Priscilla Shirer during her lung surgery, according to the Christian Post.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, Shirer underwent surgery on Monday to remove a nodule in her left lung. The actress had discovered it three years ago and was able to push back surgery until yesterday. The news came only a few weeks after the passing of her mother, Lois Evans, and in the midst of a grieving season for the Evans family as they also mourn the passing of Dr. Tony Evans’ father, sister, and niece.

Though Shirer was optimistic about her surgery, her friends rallied around her to pray. In an Instagram video posted at 6 AM on Monday morning, Moore and Caine said they were “armed and dangerous” while holding a Bible.

“In the cab on the way to the hospital where our friend is having surgery,” Moore said. “Armed and dangerous. And yes we will no doubt march around the hospital seven times like it’s Jericho. We may stop short of praise dancing with banners in the waiting room.”

Caine also shared: “Sometimes you need a double-barreled approach when you are going into active intercessory prayer for your friend who is having surgery. This is real sisterhood. No woman left alone. Whether she wants to be or not! Spirit and Truth…

Lauren Daigle Receives Rousing Applause for National Anthem Performance at College Football Playoff National Championship

Lauren Daigle Receives Rousing Applause for National Anthem Performance at College Football Playoff National Championship

Two-time Grammy-award winning singer Lauren Daigle captivated the 2020 National Championship audience last night with her national anthem performance.

While LSU and Clemson warmed-up before the biggest college football game of the year, the Louisiana native belted out the anthem to rousing applause both in and out of the stadium. Attendees rose to their feet while Twitter lit up in response.

“THE Lauren Daigle!! Ladies and gentlemen!!!” Fixer Upper star, Chip Gaines tweeted.

Also in attendance at the championship game was President Trump and First Lady Melania who also received an eruption of applause when they entered the sold-out stadium.

Daigle has recently made the rounds to a few prisons to bring a message of hope and encouragement.

“In the middle of the pain, in the middle of your problems, in the middle of you being the worst of who you are, He comes and He sits next to you in the process,” she said to inmates in the largest maximum-security facility in Louisiana. She was also able to donate $17,000 to go towards clothing and phone calls for the inmates.

Throughout the football season, several Clemson key players have caught the attention of reporters and fans for their faith. As previously reported by Christian…

The faith of LSU coach Ed Orgeron: Two keys to using fame well

“Best team. Best season. Best player. And for this season, perhaps even the best coach. Of all time.”

That’s how CBS Sports begins its coverage this morning of LSU’s victory over Clemson in last night’s NCAA football championship game. LSU’s coach, Ed Orgeron, is one of the best stories of this improbable season.

Orgeron became the interim coach of the University of Southern California football team in 2013 but failed to get the job permanently. He told his wife, Kelly, “Besides the day I buried my father, this is the worst day of my life.”

She replied, “No, it’s not,” and explained that “God had a better plan.” Orgeron said, “Whew! It better be good.”

It was.

Orgeron became head coach of the LSU Tigers in 2016. His quarterback, Joe Burrow, won the Heisman Trophy this year. Last night, his team won the title, stopping Clemson’s twenty-nine-game winning streak.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney’s faith has become well known over the years, as has the faith of quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Now we know that Orgeron and his wife are followers of Jesus as well.

What Alex Trebek hopes we appreciate

Athletic fame is fleeting.

Former NFL coaches Jimmy Johnson and Bill Cowher learned over the weekend that they would be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. They join twenty-four other head coaches in the Hall. Can you guess their names? (I only got ten, and I’ve been watching football my entire life.) Eight people were inducted into the Hall last year. I had never heard of two of them.

The first key to using fame well is using it for greater good.

For instance, Serena Williams, Roger Federer, and Rafa Nadal are among the tennis champions who have committed to a charity match raising funds to fight Australian bushfires. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio pledged $3 million toward wildfire relief, joining a variety of other celebrities who are making donations.

NBA basketball star Trae…

While the thought of church bylaws may not interest you at first, what you don’t know about the complicated nature of church governing may very well lead to trouble. In today’s episode, Thom and Sam unpack why church bylaws exist and four signs of bad church bylaws.

Highlights:

  1. When the bylaws are too complex and wieldy
  2. When the bylaws are largely reactionary
  3. When the bylaws are more “stop signs” than guides
  4. When the bylaws are dated, particularly with important legal changes

Other highlights:

  • If your church bylaws are exciting then they are likely problematic.
  • Church bylaws are meant to reflect your current practices, not dictate what you are supposed to do.
  • Church bylaws should be proactive, not reactive.
  • As a leader, you must be an expert on your church bylaws.
  • Church bylaws should be exhaustively reviewed every three years.

‘A Terrible Toll’ – 61 Million Abortions Since Roe, New Analysis Says

‘A Terrible Toll’ – 61 Million Abortions Since Roe, New Analysis Says

The United States passed an infamous milestone within the past year with its 61 millionth abortion since Roe v. Wade, according to a new analysis.

The report by National Right to Life used yearly data from the pro-choice Guttmacher Institute, which contacts abortion clinics directly and is considered the gold standard for abortion clinic data.

The total number of abortions since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision now stands at 61,628,584, according to the analysis, which was released Jan. 10.

The 61.6 million abortions represent the “consequences of Roe v. Wade,” according to the report.

The U.S. Supreme Court released its Roe v. Wade decision on Jan. 22, 1973, legalizing abortion in all 50 states. Paired with a companion decision, Doe. v. Bolton, it permitted abortion through all nine months of a pregnancy for virtually any reason.

The total number of abortions in the U.S. in 1973 was 744,610. That number topped 1 million in 1975 (1,034,170) and 1.5 million in 1980 (1,553,890), according to Guttmacher. The number of abortions in the United States peaked at 1,608,600 in 1990 before beginning to fall. The total number was 1,312,990 in 2000 and 1,102,670 in 2010. The number fell below 1 million in 2013 (958,700). In 2017, there were an estimated 862,320 abortions, according to Guttmacher.

National Right to Life says data from Guttmacher is more reliable than data from the U.S. Centers for…

New Video Attacks Pro-Trump Religious Leaders

New Video Attacks Pro-Trump Religious Leaders

The Lincoln Project, co-founded by George Conway, released a video this weekend calling out Pro-Trump religious leaders.

Conway, an attorney and husband to Trump counselor and spokesperson Kellyanne Conway, helped to start the new super PAC in an effort to raise up “enough disaffected conservatives, Republicans, and Republican-leaning independents in swing states and districts to help ensure a victory in the Electoral College, and congressional majorities that don’t enable or abet Mr. Trump’s violations of the Constitution.”

According to ABC News, the Lincoln Project ad hopes to target even a small number of Republican voters to shift the tide away from Trump. “A marginal decline in Republican support, as little as 3-5% will create a tectonic electoral shift away from Republicans,” said Mike Madrid, a veteran Republican political consultant and board member for The Lincoln Project. “That’s not just possible—it’s probable.”

The controversial video shows a montage of Christian speakers vocalizing their support for Trump using the Bible and God. Overlapping those clips are others of Trump using foul language, refusing to ask for forgiveness, and calling himself “The Chosen One.”

The video opens with Trump’s recent speech to evangelicals, stating that “Christians of every denomination and believers of other faith have never had a greater champion, not even close, than you have in the…
