What makes this Homecoming King and Queen so special? Valuing every life as much as God does

Noah Stokes and Khrystya Gordon were crowned Homecoming King and Queen last Friday at Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colorado. They were honored in the Homecoming parade and dance the next day.

Why is their story so newsworthy? Because both Noah and Khrystya have Down syndrome.

I cite their story in light of a National Review article reporting that 61 to 93 percent of US women choose abortion after a Down syndrome diagnosis.

Fortunately, federal legislation has been introduced that forbids abortion providers from performing abortions sought because the fetus has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. Tragically, a Gallup survey shows that 49 percent of Americans favor such abortions in the first trimester (though support drops to 29 percent in the third trimester).

99 percent of this group is happy with their lives

A study published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics asked people with Down syndrome ages twelve and older about their self-perceptions. Nearly 99 percent indicated that they were happy with their lives; 97 percent liked who they were; 96 percent liked how they look; and nearly 99 percent expressed love for their families.

The participants “encouraged parents to love their babies with Down syndrome, mentioning that their own lives were good.” The study concluded: “Overall, the overwhelming majority of people with Down syndrome surveyed indicate they live happy and fulfilling lives.”

Families with Down syndrome children are stable—in fact, one study found that divorce rates among such families were lower than for families with other birth defects and those with no identified disability. Another study compared the adjustment of Down syndrome families with typical families, concluding that “there were no significant differences between the groups on adjustment measures.”

Life expectancy for Down syndrome children has increased from twenty-five years in 1983 to sixty years today….

Kanye West considering legally changing name to ‘Christian Genius Billionaire’

Speaking at an event in New York he claimed he would want people to refer to him as ‘Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West’.

Addressing delegates at the Fast Company Innovation festival on Thursday, he said too many people want to downplay his financial success: “Martin Luther King didn’t get killed because he had a dream; he had something else he was going to talk about.”

“He talked about black empowerment, economic empowerment. When I did Forbes, I showed them a $890 million (£768m) receipt and they still didn’t say ‘billionaire’.

“They don’t want us to know that we can buy land; they don’t want us to have the 100 per cent ownership I have at Yeezy (his shoe company).”

West, who last month released his first gospel album Jesus is King, also spoke about wanting to run for President in 2024.

Five Problems with Too Many “Main Things” in a Church

Podcast Episode #587

SUBSCRIBE:
iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play • iHeart Radio • Spotify

Today Thom and Sam discuss five problems of having too many “main things.” As the frequency of church attenders decreases you will depend on fewer people more frequently. Leaders will burn out those most committed to the church.

  1. Church members cannot focus on more than one or two priorities.
  2. There is a challenge with infrequent attenders
  3. A leader cannot emphasize multiple main things well.
  4. One or more of the main things will fade.
  5. Members will grow weary.

Other highlights:

  • People today are busy. Is it possible that the church is contributing to the busyness of people?
  • Lack of focus is not due to an impure heart but a result of too many ideas.
  • Churches are declining because of fewer attendants and members attending less frequently.
  • Ideas become less potent when there is a flood of ideas that are never implemented.
  • When everything is a priority, nothing is.

American Family Massacred near U.S.-Mexico Border, 9 Dead, Including 6 Children

American Family Massacred near U.S.-Mexico Border, 9 Dead, Including 6 Children

While traveling through Mexico to meet with family on Monday, three American mothers and their fourteen children were ambushed by hitmen believed to be connected to the Mexican cartel.

Reportedly, Rhonita Miller was heading to Phoenix, Arizona to retrieve her husband from the airport and Christina and Dawna Langford were heading to Chihuahua to visit with family when they came under fire.

The ambush, which occurred just miles away from the U.S.-Mexico border, left all three mothers and six of their children dead, the Christian Post reports.

According to Reuters, the victims, who are from a prominent Mormon family, are believed to have been used as bait in a “territorial dispute” between the Sinaloa Cartel and a rival gang.

Reportedly, the first vehicle carrying mother of seven Rhonita Miller and four of her kids – eight-month-old babies, Titus and Tiana Miller; ten-year-old Krystal Miller and twelve-year-old Howard Miller – took on heavy fire eventually causing the car to catch fire. All five of them, trapped in the burning vehicle, perished.

Ten miles ahead, Christina Marie Langford Johnson and Dawna Langford were driving in two separate vehicles when they, too, took on fire. With Christina was her baby Faith Johnson and with Dawna were nine children.

According to a statement released by family member Kendra Lee Miller, “They both were…

John Crist Cancels Remainder of 2019 Tour after Being Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Comedian John Crist, whose YouTube videos about Christian culture have garnered millions of views and propelled him on the national stage with likes of megastars Jeff Foxworthy, Dana Carvey, and Dave Chappelle, has canceled his tour after admitting to “sexual sin and addiction.”

Crist, 35, pulled the plug on his “Immature Thoughts Tour” after . Magazine began investigating allegations of manipulation and sexual misconduct described by at least five young women as sexting, harassment, and affairs.

Several of the women interviewed in the article also allege that numerous Christian leaders were aware of his behavior but did not intervene.

The . article, published Tuesday, included a statement by Crist in which he admitted to behavior that was “destructive and sinful.”

“Over the past number of years, various women have accused me of behavior that has been hurtful to them,” his statement to . read. “While I am not guilty of everything I’ve been accused of, I confess to being guilty of this—I have treated relationships with women far too casually, in some cases even recklessly. My behavior has been destructive and sinful. I’ve sinned against God, against women and the people who I love the most. I have violated my own Christian beliefs, convictions and values, and have hurt many people in the process. I am sorry for…

President Trump Celebrates Appointment of 150th Federal Judge

President Trump Celebrates Appointment of 150th Federal Judge

On Wednesday, President Trump gathered with top Republican lawmakers and Justice Department officials to commemorate the appointment of his 150th federal judge, according to Fox News.

Trump called the occasion a “profoundly historic milestone and a truly momentous achievement.” The Trump administration hopes to appoint 182 federal judges in total. One hundred and twelve of those judges have been confirmed to district courts; 43 to appeals courts and two on the Supreme Court.

“In terms of quality and quantity, we are going to be just about number one by the time we finish—number one of any president, any administration,” Trump continued. “So I want to thank all of you for the incredible job you’ve done. They will uphold our Constitution as written.”

During the celebration, the president handed the stage over to onetime rival Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) who praised Trump for his work.

“The defining moment of your presidency was the Kavanaugh hearing,” Graham, a staunch supporter of the Supreme Court justice, said. “This room would be empty if we had failed Brett Kavanaugh. Brett Kavanaugh lived a life we should all be proud of. He worked hard. And the way he was treated was the worst experience I’ve had in politics. A lot of people would have pulled the plug on him. Mr. President, thank you, for not pulling the plug.”

Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.),…

Drag Queens Mock Pro-Life Activists in Planned Parenthood Fundraiser

Drag Queens Mock Pro-Life Activists in Planned Parenthood Fundraiser

In a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood, drag queen performers in Washington state mocked pro-lifers and area pastors by auctioning off cardboard cutouts of local Christians.

According to the Christian Post, the drag queens used large cutouts of the faces of pastors Ken Peters and Afshin Yaghtin, as well as the founder of 500 Mom Strong, Anna Bohach, and lined up on the stage for auction. The highest bidder won each of the “effigies,” Activist Mommy wrote on her blog.

The Planned Parenthood fundraiser was put on by pro-abortion group Spokane United Against Religious Extremism and The Church of Planned Parenthood. According to the group’s Facebook page, its purpose is to act as a “peaceful counter-protest and rising voice to religious extremism that is happening in our community.”

Particularly, the group is “focused on the hateful actions and rhetoric of the Church at Planned Parenthood and their affiliates.”

The Church at Planned Parenthood is a group of pro-life activists who meet in front of a Planned Parenthood building in Washington “for the worship of God and the corporate prayer for repentance for this nation, repentance for the apathetic church and repentance of our blood-guiltiness in this abortion holocaust.”

According to the Christian Post, the fundraiser raised $1,865 for Planned Parenthood. The abortion giant was also in…

Judge Overturns Trump Rule that Protected Doctors Opposed to Abortion

Judge Overturns Trump Rule that Protected Doctors Opposed to Abortion

A federal judge Wednesday overturned a new Trump administration rule that protected the freedom of conscience of health care workers who are opposed to procedures such as abortion, suicide and gender-change procedures on religious or moral grounds.

The Department of Health and Human Services finalized the new rule in May, saying it protects “individuals and health care entities from discrimination” on the basis of conscience and fulfilled President Trump’s “promise to promote and protect the fundamental and unalienable rights of conscience and religious liberty.”

But U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer, who was nominated by President Obama, ruled HHS exceeded its authority and that the rule was not needed.

“The Rule represents a classic solution in search of a problem,” Engelmayer wrote in a 147-page decision.

He acknowledged the rule protects some “important rights” and said the decision leaves HHS at liberty “to consider and promulgate rules governing these provisions.” But future rules from HHS must fit “within the confines” of the Administrative Procedure Act – a law that governs federal agencies – and within “the Constitution.”

In May, HHS said the new rule would protect health care workers “from having to provide, participate in, pay for, provide coverage of, or refer for, services such as abortion, sterilization,…

Seven-Year-Old Son Embroiled in Transgender Court Case Chooses to Attend School as Boy

Seven-Year-Old Son Embroiled in Transgender Court Case Chooses to Attend School as Boy

Following a publicized, international custody battle, seven-year-old James Younger chose to attend school as a boy for the first time, according to the Christian Post.

James was the center of a fierce legal dispute when his mother, Anne Georgulas, wished to transition her son to a girl against his father’s wishes. After a jury agreed to allow Georgulas full consent to socially transition their son, family court Judge Kim Cooks of the 255th District of Texas stepped in to give joint managing conservatorship to both parents.

Georgulas assents she never wanted to “chemically castrate” her son, but Jeffrey Younger, the boy’s father, disagrees, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Because Jeffrey is under a gag order to not speak to the press on the matter, a friend of the family posted a photo of James and his twin brother, Jude, attending school dressed as boys. The family of three was also seen wearing suits to attend church.

“Jeff emailed the principal today and James and Jude’s teachers had reported that there was zero stress or disruptions in the classroom today. Just another day in school. Prayers answered,” the post said.

Friends of Younger set up a website called SJSaveThousands.com after the original website, SaveJames.com, was shut down due to the gag order. The new website speaks up for other children and parents…
