DCLM Daily Manna 15 February 2019 – Harden Not Your Heart

Topic: Harden Not Your Heart [DCLM Daily Manna 15 February 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Exodus 8:1-15 (KJV)

Key Verse: “But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said” (Exodus 8:15).

MESSAGE:

“Once bitten twice shy” is a cautionary saying meant to guide people against repeated failings. But when one is set on the part of self destruction, no number of bites will be sufficient to put one in check and take him away from the path of danger and death to which he has irreversibly commit himself.

The first warning from the Almighty God to a recalcitrant Pharaoh was Aaron’s rod swallowing up his magicians’ rods. This heralded the commencement of the plagues as the waters of Egypt all became blood. The fish in the rivers and streams died and stank. Yet, the Egyptian king remained unmoved.

Then came the plague of frogs. “And the LORD spake unto Moses, say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt” (verse 5). Ironically, Pharaoh’s magicians’ enchantment multiplied the frogs. Who can battle with the Lord? In ancient Egypt, frogs represented gods and were thus sacred. Through the plague, the Lord attacked the gods of Egypt to show that His power was far superior to all the magicians’ power.

Understandably, the plagues demonstrated God’s power over the gods of Egypt and all the forces of evil; it also revealed His judgment against the nation’s leadership for stubbornly refusing to obey His command to let His people go. Today, God is still very much angry with the wicked particularly those in leadership who oppress the poor and the needy while enriching themselves with the nation’s God-given wealth. As a true believer, avoid backsliding to join to the ranks of the wicked whose damnation is sure and whose punishment in the lake of fire is forever.

Our Daily Bread 15 February 2019 Devotional – Sinking into Grace

Topic: Sinking into Grace [Our Daily Bread 15 February 2019 Devotional]

Bible in a Year: Leviticus 17–18; Matthew 27:27–50

[God] grants sleep to those he loves. – Psalm 127:2

Today’s Scripture & Insight: Psalm 127:1-2

Finally, on January 8, 1964, seventeen-year-old Randy Gardner did something he hadn’t done for eleven days and twenty-five minutes: he nodded off to sleep. He wanted to beat the Guinness Book World Record for how long a human could stay awake. By drinking soft drinks and hitting the basketball court and bowling alley, Gardner rebuffed sleep for a week and a half. Before finally collapsing, his sense of taste, smell, and hearing went haywire. Decades later, Gardner suffered from severe bouts of insomnia. He set the record but also confirmed the obvious: sleep is essential.

Many of us struggle to get a decent night’s rest. Unlike Gardner who deprived himself intentionally, we might suffer sleeplessness for a number of reasons—including a mountain of anxieties: the fear of all we need to accomplish, the dread of others’ expectations, the distress of living at a frantic pace. Sometimes it’s hard for us to turn off the fear and relax.

The psalmist tells us that “unless the Lord builds the house,” we labor in vain (Psalm 127:1). Our “toiling” and our relentless efforts are useless unless God provides what we need. Thankfully, God does provide what we need. He “grants sleep to those he loves” (v. 2). And God’s love extends to all of us. He invites us to release our anxieties to Him and sink into His rest, into His grace.

Today’s Reflection
God, I’m so anxious. I churn inside. Would You help me trust You with my night, with my day, with my life?

Open Heavens for Teens 15 February 2019 – Dressing to Kill?

Topic: Dressing to Kill? [Open Heavens for Teens 15 February 2019]

Memorise: “Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.” – Philippians 4:5

Read: 1 Peter 3:3-4

3 Let not yours be the [merely] external adorning with [elaborate] interweaving and knotting of the hair, the wearing of jewelry, or changes of clothes;

4 But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.

Bible In One Year: Leviticus 20-21, Matthew 28

MESSAGE:

While it is good to look nice, neat and presentable, you must take care not to go overboard. Christian teenagers don’t dress to kill, you dress to heal. It is the devil that came to kill, steal and destroy, not Christian teenagers.

Anytime you dress and become a symbol of lust or temptation to the opposite sex, you have gone beyond being decent to the realm of becoming an agent of Satan to kill other people’s spiritual destiny. If worldly girls expose their cleavages, and worldly boys ‘sag’ their trousers, should you do the same because you want to be seen as trendy and fashionable? If you do, then what is the difference between you and them? If your dressing is stirring up lust in the hearts of brothers/sisters, then you must change it.

You may not know it, but those who are not yet born again look up to you for the standard of righteousness and that involves dress sense too. If you dress in a worldly way, you will be misleading them as they will wonder why you dress just like them if you profess to be born again Christians. The worst thing about this is that you would have lost the opportunity to bring such people to Christ.

Action Point:

Look in the mirror every morning and ensure that you are not seductively dressed.

Hymn 15

1. Wonderful story of love;
Tell it to me again;
Wonderful story of love;
Wake the immortal strain!
Angels with rapture announce it,
Shepherds with wonder receive it;
Sinner, 0 won’t you believe It?
Wonderful story of love.

Chorus:
Wonderful! Wonderful!
Wonderful, Wonderful story of love.

2. Wonderful story of love,
Though you are far away;
Wonderful story of love;
Still He doth call today;
Calling from Calvary’s mountain,
Down from the crystal bright fountain,
E’en from the dawn of creation,
Wonderful story of love.

3. Wonderful story of love:
Jesus provides a rest;
Wonderful story of love;
For all the pure and blest,
Rest in those mansions above us,
With those who’ve gone on before us,
Singing the rapturous chorus,
Wonderful story of Love.

Andrew Wommack Devotional 15 February 2019 – Our Debts Have Been Cancelled

Topic: Our Debts Have Been Cancelled [Andrew Wommack Devotional 15 February 2019]

Luke 4:19, “To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Text: Luke 4:16-30

This scripture had been written prophetically by the prophet Isaiah about 650 years prior to this time. It was read in Jewish synagogues thousands of times. But the one this verse was speaking of had never spoken it before. With this pronouncement, Jesus began the year of Jubilee.

The Year of Jubilee was described in Leviticus 25. It was a year when everyone left their fields unworked and kept a sabbath unto the Lord. The Lord gave the people a miraculous provision the year before this jubilee started that sustained them for three years until their crops could once again be harvested.

This jubilee was different than the other sabbatical years in that every debt was cancelled. All property was returned to its original owner and anyone who had been sold into slavery was set free. It was a year of new beginnings.

Jesus proclaimed a spiritual jubilee. We now live in a time when all our debts to God have been cancelled and all the things the devil stole from us have been returned. Even our slavery to the devil has come to an end through the redemptive work of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is a time for rejoicing.

Jesus is our jubilee.

Billy Graham Devotional 15 February 2019 – The Ultimate Peace

Topic: The Ultimate Peace [Billy Graham Devotional 15 February 2019]

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you . . . — John 14:27

Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” Where does peacemaking begin? How can we become peacemakers? Can peace be discovered within ourselves? Freud has told us that peace is but a mental attitude. Cast off our phobias, shed our neuroses, and “bingo!”-we’ll have the coveted peace we long for. I respect psychiatry for what it can do.

Unquestionably, it has helped many. But it certainly is not satisfactory as a substitute for the peace which can come only from God. If psychiatry leaves God out, ultimately we shall see psychiatrists going to each other for treatment. There can be no peace until we find peace with God. The Bible says, “He is our peace.”

Prayer for the day: The balm of Your peace pours over my soul and I humbly praise You, almighty God.

‘Pornography Is a Social Toxin’: Arizona May Pass Resolution to Declare Pornography a ‘Public Health Crisis’

‘Pornography Is a Social Toxin’: Arizona May Pass Resolution to Declare Pornography a ‘Public Health Crisis’

An Arizona lawmaker introduced a resolution that will declare that pornography is a detriment to society.

CNN reports that Republican Representative Michelle Udall stood before the Arizona House Committee on Health and Human Services on Thursday and asked her colleagues to consider the toxicity of pornography.

Udall noted that there have been 30 peer-reviewed studies on the “negative and detrimental” impacts pornography has on the brain. She mentioned several scientific studies which show the adversarial effects of pornography including one medical study which shows that the consumption of pornography causes “brain shrinkage.”

The Arizona representative also noted pornography has worked to perpetuate rape culture and the objectification and over-sexualization of women.

Udall said, “Pornography is a social toxin that destroys families, damages children, harms women and breeds violence.”

She continued emphasizing the effects pornography has on young people. “A national representative survey found that 64 percent of young people ages 13 through 24 actively seek out pornography weekly, or more often,” Udall recited

“One in 10 visitors to pornography websites are age 10 or younger,” she added.

Udall then equated the pornography industry to the tobacco industry noting that they have both created a…

UN Threatens to Blacklist Major Companies with Locations in Israeli Settlements

UN Threatens to Blacklist Major Companies with Locations in Israeli Settlements

The United Nations is set to release a blacklist, warning international and Israeli companies against their business operations in Israeli settlements, which the UN identifies as occupied territory.

The UN Human Rights Council has warned companies such as Coca Cola, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Africa Israel Investments, Bank Leumi, Bank Hapoalim and Israel’s main transportation and utility companies, about their potential inclusion on the list of 206 businesses operating in the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and eastern Jerusalem,  Ynet News reports

 “The UN began publishing the blacklist in 2016 when the body passed a resolution condemning companies that operate directly or indirectly in Israeli settlements. The list has been updated each year since then, CBN News writes

The resolution passed 32-15, leading Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accuse the UN Human Rights Council of being an “anti-Israel circus.”

Israel and the United States, who pulled out of the UN Human Rights Council last year, have opposed the publishing of the list, but it is scheduled to be released in March at the 40th UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, according to Ynet News.

Netanyahu called on “responsible governments not to honor the decisions of the Council that discriminate against Israel.”

Coptic Church Canonizes Christian Men Beheaded by ISIS as Martyr Saints

Coptic Church Canonizes Christian Men Beheaded by ISIS as Martyr Saints

A new book releases Friday that provides insight into the 21 Christian men who were beheaded by ISIS members on a Libyan beach in 2015 in a widely publicized video.

German novelist Martin Mosebach authored the book, The 21: A Journey into the Land of Coptic Martyrs. The book will take a look at the men who were pictured in the photos and videos.

The 2015 photo shows the men on their knees with their backs toward the Mediterranean Sea. Behind the men are Islamic State militants with knives.

Their deaths shook the world and later, the Coptic Church officially canonized the 21 men as martyr saints.

According to the Christian Post, Mosebach saw one of the photos from the beheading on a German Catholic magazine. The picture showed the head of one of the men, Kiryollos Boushra Fawzy.

“This picture caught my eye in 2016,” Mosebach said. “An image of the face of one migrant worker beheaded by ISIS on the beach in Libya.”

So, Mosebach visited a town where some of the men had lived and spoke with many of their family members.

“These communities and congregations are very educated and know the faith,” he said. “In the spirituality of the Copts, miracles are a very important thing.”

In El-Aour, Mosebach said, “everybody is talking about miracles.”

According to the Christian Post, handfuls of miracle stories are being circulated about the 21…
