Celebrating the Work of Church Revitalization

By Sam Rainer

You become what you celebrate. And we will celebrate church revitalization because we need more stories of churches being revitalized.

That’s why we are hosting Revitalize 2020 in Bradenton, Florida on April 20 and 21. It’s the inaugural event. You don’t want to miss it. We will celebrate churches and leaders doing the hard work of revitalization. One of our goals is to champion leaders who would otherwise go unnoticed. Even more importantly, we want to inspire others to join the movement of church revitalization.

Far too many churches are unhealthy. But there are also far too many critics. It’s easy to stand on the sidelines and judge. It’s hard to jump into the mix and lead. Revitalizing a church is anything but glamorous. Even after several years of God-honoring work, leaders can get discouraged at the lack of movement. If you feel this way, you’re likely making more progress than you realize.

Revitalize 2020 was created for pastors like you. The event will be a celebration. The spirit will be one of encouragement and inspiration.

We hope to be one of the largest gatherings of church optimists.

If God can save any person, then He can save any church. In fact, He is saving churches. God is using everyday leaders to do His work of making Jesus’ bride healthy again.

Don’t listen to the cynics. Come celebrate with us. Join a movement of church revitalization. You will find many like-minded leaders at Revitalize 2020

What is the most compelling defense for the sanctity of life?

The abortion debate in our country continues to escalate and divide people. While the science we have about the unborn is clear and uncomplicated, the circumstances and emotions surrounding abortion are anything but simple.

If you need convincing, just take a lap around social media, where posts and articles about abortion have multiplied and intensified exponentially.

Are we the experts on the matter? Far from it.

What we can say is that we were strongly encouraged to abort our son Abel back in 2015, and the families we support through Abel Speaks are consistently pushed to terminate their pregnancies as well. For that reason, we have put a significant amount of time, energy, and effort into equipping ourselves on the topic of abortion over the past few years.

Since you clicked on the title of this article, we’d venture to guess you are invested in the life conversation and eager to do what you can to defend the unborn. So, what if we could settle this controversial debate once and for all? Wouldn’t it be nice if there were an indisputable approach to the abortion conversation?

We’d like to propose a solution. Well, sort of.

A pro-life argument with no rebuttal

In our experience, there is one single approach we’ve used to engage others in this discussion that really has no rebuttal or counterargument, one particular method that has been most impactful in upholding the value of every life, regardless of whom we’re sharing with. What is this approach, you ask?

It boils down to two words: personal stories.

We believe the most effective “argument” for the sanctity of life isn’t actually an argument at all. It’s authentic personal stories shared humbly, winsomely, and honestly. Real stories of people choosing life and choosing love. Stories that move people from seeing a “fetus” to meeting a cherished baby with a name, and a birthday, and a picture. Stories that bear witness to the fact…

Two Young Christian Women Killed in Kaduna State, Nigeria

Two Young Christian Women Killed in Kaduna State, Nigeria

JOS, Nigeria, January 20, 2020 (Morning Star News) – Muslim Fulani herdsmen killed two young Christian women in southern Kaduna state, Nigeria, on Friday (Jan. 17), sources said.

The herdsmen on motorbikes rode into Gora-Gan village in Zango Kataf County at about 5 p.m. shooting villagers on sight, according to a local resident. Luka Biniyat, spokesman for the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), confirmed the killing of Briget Philip, 18, and Priscilla David, 19.

“Both girls, who were secondary school pupils, worshiped at the Catholic parish of Gora-Gan,” Biniyat told Morning Star News.

Wounded in the attack on the predominantly Christian community were 18-year-old Henry Jonathan, 19-year-old Benjamin Peter and Goodluck Andawus, 12, he said.

The herdsmen attacked when people had flocked to the village square where evangelism and social activities are held.

“As the people fled into nearby bushes to take cover, the attackers retreated and left,” area resident Solomon John told Morning Star News by text message. “We are sad about these attacks on our people, which seem to be unending.”

County Council Chairman Elias Manza confirmed the attack to journalists on Saturday (Jan. 18).

“The injured are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, but the good news is that normalcy has been restored to the area,” Manza said.

Apple Comes Under Fire after Siri Labels Israel a ‘Zionist Occupation State’

Apple Comes Under Fire after Siri Labels Israel a ‘Zionist Occupation State’

Apple is facing serious backlash after its virtual assistant, “Siri,” was caught labeling Israel a “Zionist occupation state.”

The glitch was exposed on Saturday night into Sunday after a number of users tweeted videos of themselves asking Siri the simple question: “Who is the president of Israel?”

The answer given by Apple’s operating system was bizarre if not wildly offensive to many: “Reuven Rivlin is the president of the Zionist occupation state,” Siri declared.

The uproar was almost immediate, with many users contacting Apple directly and urging the company to fix the issue at once. “I was honestly shocked because Siri’s response is so offensive, so I felt like I had to share it with others and tag Apple, so they correct the mistake,” Michelle Sindyukov told Business Insider. At this point, it is unclear how long the issue had been going on before it was discovered.

As of Monday, the error had been rectified, with Siri delivering the answer “Israel” instead of “Zionist occupation state.” It is also important to note that Siri derives its information from Wikipedia – a free online encyclopedia that can be edited by anyone.

According to ynet news, Rivlin’s Wikipedia page had been hacked by an anonymous user named “The Arab Man.” The malicious user then edited the president’s biography, describing him as the “president of the Zionist occupation…

Chinese gangs are using drones to spread African swine fever: The creativity of sin and power of redemption

Chinese criminals are using drones to drop items infected with African swine fever into pig farms. They are also spreading rumors about the virus.

The disease has reduced the country’s pig herds by over 40
percent because of mass culling to stop the spread of the virus. The resulting
shortages have seen pork prices more than double.

And that’s where the criminals step in.

Their actions force farmers to sell their pigs at lower
prices. The gangs then buy the pigs and smuggle the animals or their meat to
other areas where prices are higher, defying a van on transporting pork or
livestock between provinces.

Police believe that one gang smuggled four thousand pigs
from a province in a single day. Smugglers are bribing inspectors and faking
quarantine certificates. Their activities are escalating between now and the
Lunar New Year in late January, when demand is expected to peak.

G. K. Chesterton observed, “The criminal is the
creative artist; the detective only the critic.”

The change every human needs

No matter how diligently law enforcement professionals work,
those who want to break the law seem to find a way to do so. That’s because, in
the final analysis, laws do not change character. They can restrain and
sometimes prevent actions, but they do not create or confer integrity.

The change every human needs must come more deeply.

When Billy Graham was asked to identify the greatest problem
in our world, he replied simply, “the human heart.” He then cited
Jeremiah 17:9, which states, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and
desperately sick.”

The good news is that Jesus can change any heart that is
opened to him. If he could make a man who denied him into the preacher of
Pentecost and a persecutor of Christians into the author of half of the New
Testament, there is nothing he cannot do with your life.

Do you agree?

Kanye West Shares Testimony at Youth Conference: ‘Jesus Can Save a Wretch Like Me’

Kanye West Shares Testimony at Youth Conference: ‘Jesus Can Save a Wretch Like Me’

Kanye West has yet to show signs of stopping his Sunday Service tour. As reported by The Christian Post, the rapper-turned-evangelist gave a gospel-oriented performance over the weekend at the Strength to Stand youth conference in Tennessee, declaring his victory in Jesus.

“I believe Jesus died for my sins. There was a time when the devil had me,” he said to over 12,000 students. “Do you know the good news? Jesus can save a wretch like me.”

The Sunday Service choir was also in attendance and sang songs such as “Ultralight Beam,” “Every Hour” and “Revelation 19:1.” Their performance also included traditional hymns such as “How Great Thou Art” and “Jesus Loves Me.”

The choir members were dressed in all gray, including Kanye. He spoke the lyrics of songs from his smash hit “Jesus is King” album, which included “Selah,” “Follow God,” and “Closed on Sunday.” Then, he handed the stage to his pastor, Adam Tyson.

“The Father is saying to his son, ‘If you’ll come back, I’m so glad you’re back, I love you,’” Tyson said while sharing the story of the Prodigal Son. “Are you hearing me this morning? If you come back to the Father, He runs after you. He loves you. He wants to embrace you. He wants to give you a holy kiss; a kiss of mercy; a kiss of love; a kiss of acceptance. It’s from the Father and it’s for you. It’s…

Pastor transforms hostage video into powerful testimony

A pastor who turned his hostage video into a Christian
testimony has been beheaded.

Rev. Lawan Andimi was abducted by Boko Haram in Nigeria. The group then forced him to record a video that was supposed to be a plea for rescue.

Instead, Pastor Andimi told his family and friends, “Be
patient, don’t cry, don’t worry. But thank God for everything.” His
testimony showed that he was ready to die for his Lord.

And soon thereafter, he did.

According to Open Doors, Nigeria led the world in Christian
martyrdoms last year, with 1,350 confirmed.

Each died for the One who died for us all.

They remind us of the biblical admonition that “all who
desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Timothy
3:12). And they join the “souls of those who had been beheaded for the
testimony of Jesus and for the word of God” in reigning with our Lord
(Revelation 20:4).

May we make their courage our own.

When last did it cost you something significant to follow
Jesus?

Church Asks Members over 60 Years Old to Worship Elsewhere to Make Room for New Young People

Church Asks Members over 60 Years Old to Worship Elsewhere to Make Room for New Young People

A church in Minnesota is asking its members older than 60 years old to worship elsewhere while the church closes to “reset” and welcome younger families.

According to the Grand Forks Herald, the Grove United Methodist Church in Cottage Grove, Minn. is closing in June and reopening in November.

A church memo to members asks that those over 60 reapply for church membership in two years.

“This is totally wrong,” said Cheryl Gackstetter. “They are discriminating against us because of our age.”

The church announced the plan in early January.

The church was founded about 30 years ago as the Peaceful Grove Church. It merged with another church, Woodbury, in 2008. Then, about seven years ago, the church said it could no longer pay for a minister for the church. Cottage Grove church then switched to lay ministry where members preach weekly sermons.

“This created a lot of independence. We kept it going,” said church founder Jim Baker. That’s why the members are so fiercely loyal, he said.

The church averages about 25 people weekly, but Rev. Dan Wetterstrom, head of the church, says the church wants to “reach new people.” They’ve asked that church members attend the Woodbury campus while the church restarts.

The Methodists’ regional Annual Conference is paying $250,000 to restart the church, including hiring a 30-year-old specialist, Jeremy…

‘My Identity Is My Faith in Christ’: Chiefs CEO Highlights His Faith after Winning AFC Championship

‘My Identity Is My Faith in Christ’: Chiefs CEO Highlights His Faith after Winning AFC Championship

The chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs thanked the coaches, players and fans while accepting the AFC Championship trophy Sunday but also took a moment to credit God.

“I want to thank the Lord for blessing us with the opportunity,” Clark Hunt said on national television. “The glory belongs to Him.”

The faith-centric moment was not an anomaly for Clark, who along with his siblings inherited ownership of the Chiefs following the death of their father, Lamar Hunt, in 2006. The elder Hunt founded the Chiefs and was co-founder of the American Football League, the predecessor to the AFC.

Hunt has been vocal about his Christian faith during his tenure, including the past few years as the Chiefs have become one of the NFL’s most dominant teams. The Chiefs will play San Francisco in the Super Bowl Feb. 2.

“We want our employees to develop spiritually,” Hunt said last year while speaking to a men’s luncheon in Tyler, Texas. He became a Christian at age 10, he told the men. “In the National Football…
