Seventy-one-year old Jack Wilson received Texas’ highest civilian honor on Monday after he stopped an active church shooter.

“Only God knows who is alive today because of Jack Wilson,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott, according to Faithwire. 

“What we do know is that so many lives were saved because of Jack Wilson’s quick action, his calmness under pressure and above all else, his courage and his willingness to risk his own life to save the lives of others.”

Abbott awarded Wilson with the Governor’s Medal of Courage, which is given to people who show heroism when their life is in danger to save other’s lives. This is the first time the award has been given.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, in December, Wilson noticed a suspicious man walking into West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas. As part of the church’s security team, Wilson followed him and jumped into action as soon as the man began to shoot. Unfortunately, the gunman hit and killed two people, but Wilson quickly stopped a potential rampage with a single round at the gunman.

“The courage in his actions cannot be understated, and Jack is not only a hero to West Freeway Church of Christ—he is a hero to the entire state of Texas,” Abbot said.

A biological woman who identifies as male and gave birth in December will be listed as the father on the child’s birth certificate under a landmark decision by the state of Illinois. 

The state originally ruled that the transgender man, Myles Brady Davis, would be listed as the mother because Myles was the one who carried the baby. Myles identifies as transmasculine. 

But then Lambda Legal sent a letter to the Illinois Department of Public Health on Myles’ behalf, and the state changed course. Myles – although born female and having carried the baby in the womb – will be listed as the father, the state of Illinois decided. 

“I feel so relieved,” Myles told the Chicago Tribune. “I’d gone through two years of (in vitro fertilization) and nine months of a very difficult pregnancy just to be misgendered at the end. It was really breaking my heart.”

Myles is the communications director and press secretary for Equality Illinois. 

Myles’ spouse, Precious Brady Davis, was born male but identifies as a transgender female. Precious will be listed as the mother. Both are well-known in the LGBT community. Precious was featured on TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress.

The couple became pregnant through in vitro fertilization, using Myles’ eggs and Precious’ sperm, according to the Tribune.

2020 hopeful Pete Buttigieg, in a pre-Iowa caucus debate that covered wide-ranging progressive topics but failed to deliver fireworks, said he was prepared to challenge President Donald Trump on religion.

“If a guy like Donald Trump keeps trying to use religion to somehow recruit Christianity into the GOP, I will be standing there not afraid to talk about a different way to answer the call of faith and insist that God does not belong to a political party,” the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana said.

His comments came during a segment in which he explained how he could stand up to Trump if he secured the Democratic nomination.

“I’m ready to take on Donald Trump because when he gets to the tough talk and the chest-thumping, he’ll have to stand next to an American war veteran and explain how he pretended bone spurs made him ineligible to serve,” the 37-year-old said.

Buttigieg, who is openly gay, has been outspoken about his Christian faith on the national stage since he announced his run for the presidency.

Religious leaders recently met at the Washington National Cathedral in D.C. to bless a Bible that will be used by the United States Space Force which was announced at the end of 2018.

According to Faithwire, the United States Space Force officially became the sixth armed service branch last year. Air Force General John “Jay” Raymond, the former head of Air Force Space Command and U.S. Space Command, serves as the first “Chief of Space Operations.”

About 16,000 active duty Air Force personnel — a mix of civilian and military — will be assigned to the Space Force.

On Sunday, the Episcopal Church’s bishop suffragan for the Armed Forces and Federal Ministries, Right Rev. Carl Wright, prayed that the King James Bible would “guard and guide all those who purpose that the final frontier be a place where God will triumph over evil, where love will triumph over hate, and where life will triumph over death.”

Rev. Randolph Marshall Hollerith, dean of Washington National Cathedral, also prayed over the Bible.

“Accept this Bible which we dedicate here today for the United States Space Force,” Hollerith, said, according to NPR. “That all may so diligently search your holy word and find in it the wisdom that leads to peace and salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.”

A group of radical feminists have taken credit for a shocking string of attacks on pro-life advocates in Germany.

At the end of December, an evangelical church in the town of Tübingen was spray-painted and a nearby minibus set ablaze. The attack caused an estimated $45,000-worth of damage, according to the National Catholic Register.

Not long after the attack, an admission letter was posted by a group called the “Feminist Autonomous Cell,” who accused the church of exposing “anti-feminist attitudes,” by supporting pro-life causes.

Days later, the group admitted attacking a car belonging to pro-life journalist, Gunnar Schupelius. Shockingly, in a bid to incite further violence, the group published Schupelius’s home address.

A week later, Feminist Autonomous Cell struck again, vandalizing St. Elisabeth church in Berlin, supposedly because the building hosted a warm-up event for September’s “March for Life” – an event that drew some 8,000 attendees. The violent group insisted that their attack was justified because the March for Life champions “fundamentalist, anti-trans, homophobic, anti-Semitic, misogynist, patriarchal and right-wing conservative” speakers.

NAIROBI, Kenya, January 14, 2020 (Morning Star News) – Somali Al Shabaab rebels killed three Christian teachers in northeast Kenya at about 2:30 a.m. on Monday (Jan. 13), sources said. 

“One of the attackers said, ‘We cannot allow infidels to teach our children,’ and there and then fired at three teachers as I managed to escape through the window,” a surviving teacher told Morning Star News. 

He said the attackers arrived at the primary boarding school in Kamuthe, Garissa County, as the teachers were sleeping, ordered them out of their rooms and separated out the non-local ones who had come from other parts of Kenya – assumed to be Christian as they were not ethnic Somali Muslims predominant in the region near Somalia’s border. 

“The Al Shabaab knew our residential rooms,” he said. “The attack is well planned. It is a conspiracy between the Al Shabbab and the local Muslim community.” 

The headteacher at the school has instructed him and other teachers not to reveal the names of the victims out of fear of retaliation from Al Shabaab. The headteacher also declined to share their names with Morning Star News. 

While the identities of the three slain teachers has not been revealed, an area pastor said the victims were among four non-local teachers who attended his church after coming to the area at the start of the school year last September.

A majority of Protestant pastors say Jesus’ return cannot be accelerated due to world events or evangelism, although their views on the issue vary greatly depending on the question, according to a new LifeWay Research survey.

The poll of 1,000 Protestant pastors was released Tuesday and found that 12 percent agreed that “Christians can speed up the return of Christ by supporting geopolitical changes mentioned in the Bible,” while 80 percent disagreed and 8 percent weren’t sure. 

Pastors’ beliefs on the issue differed little between evangelical and mainline ministers, although there were some differences among ethnicities. 

Twenty percent of African American pastors but 11 percent of white pastors agreed that Christians can speed up Christ’s return by supporting geopolitical changes. Among non-whites and non-blacks, 22 percent agreed.

Pastors 65 and older (16 percent) were more likely to agree with the statement than pastors ages 18 to 44 (9 percent).
