So. Baptist Missions Agency Opens 2 Investigations Into Handling of Sex Abuse Allegations

The president of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention has announced that two investigations are underway regarding the board’s handling of past sexual abuse allegations within the organization.

In a statement that was released this week, David Platt, who has served as the organization’s president since 2014, said that he wanted to speak out amid reports related to the 21-year-old allegation of sexual abuse against Mark Aderholt, a former youth pastor who then became an IMB missionary and subsequently served in other ministry leadership roles within the denomination.

Baptist Press reported Wednesday that the IMB investigated the matter internally in 2007 when they learned of it, and it was scheduled to go before the board of trustees, “which, at that time, was the only group with the authority to terminate a member of our missionary personnel,” according to written comments from IMB spokesperson Julie McGowan. But Aderholt resigned on his own before the board could vote on what to do. The IMB’s policy has reportedly been revamped such that missionaries…

Plans in motion for Soul Survivor Scotland replacement

The Glasgow-based ministry, which has been helping stage the annual festival since 2014, said there was an “increasing sense of calling” to pursue a potential “follow on” event to replace it.

Deputy chief executive officer Robin MacLellan said: “SU Scotland has partnered with Soul Survivor over the past four summers, helping facilitate events which have had a significant impact for young people and local churches right across Scotland.

“Having gained that valuable experience and with an increasing sense of calling to see something similar continue beyond 2019, we are now in the process of setting up a gathering of partners from other youth ministries around Scotland to dream, pray and seek God about possibilities for a follow on festival event for summer 2020 and beyond.

“Chances are this will take place sometime in September.”

More than 1,000 people attended Soul Survivor Scotland 2018 at Perthshire this week – before three more Soul Survivor conferences get underway in Staffordshire and Peterborough next month.

How to survive a shark attack

You have almost survived “Shark Week.” The Discovery Channel phenomenon began in 1988. This year’s installment ends Sunday.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal hosted this year in part to overcome his fear of sharks. Producers had to build a larger-than-usual cage for him. They included extra-large windows for better visibility. As a result, a small shark squeezed through the bars and into the cage.

This was a first in the show’s thirty-year history.

The team behind the camera was able to get Shaq out of the cage quickly. One of the show’s producers said, “Shaq hasn’t moved that fast since he was in the NBA.”

If you find yourself in a similar situation but without a cage or television personnel to help, what should you do? Jimi Partington, one of the world’s leading great white shark experts, has some advice. In essence: fight back.

If a shark attacks you, you must convince it that you’re not its usual food. You do this, not by swimming away (this will mimic its typical prey and probably encourage an attack), but by standing your ground. Partington says to “go for the eyes and the gills, as these are the most sensitive areas of the shark.” You can also strike the shark on the nose.

The article concludes: “It’s best to be dominant, be confident and, in most cases, the shark will swim away. That might be hard to do in that scenario, but it could save your life.”

Mark Zuckerberg lost $15.1 billion in five minutes

You may not be anywhere near an ocean today, but Partington’s counsel is still good advice.

Mark Zuckerberg lost $15.1 billion in five minutes yesterday morning. This after Facebook forecast years of lower profit margins. It was the biggest one-day wipeout in US stock market history.

Zuckerberg can quit his job, resign himself to financial decline, or fight back with new entrepreneurial ideas and perseverance.

As football training camps begin this week, Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck is being called “the…

Bishop Michael Curry’s books to be published in UK for the first time

Most Rev Michael Curry’s books, Crazy Christians, Songs My Grandma Sang and Following the Way of Jesus are only currently available in the US.

Andy Lyon, publishing director at Hodder Faith, said the books will be published over the next nine months.

“Bishop Curry made religion front page news after his involvement in the royal wedding – there can’t be many sermons recently that have prompted so much discussion and debate,” he said.

“We are delighted that these three accessible and thought-provoking books will now be available for readers here in the UK.”

The first of Bishop Curry’s book to be released by Hodder Faith is Crazy Christians: A radical way of life on 20th September.

The Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church wrote: “What the Church needs, what this world needs, are some Christians who are as crazy as the Lord. Crazy enough to love like Jesus, to give like Jesus, to forgive like Jesus, to do justice, love mercy, walk humbly with God—like Jesus.

“Crazy enough to dare to change the world from the night-mare it often is into something closer to the dream that God dreams for it.

“And for those of us who would follow him, those of us who would be his disciples, those of us who would live as the people of the Way? It might come as a shock, but those of us called to that life…

Free travel for people going to see the Pope at Phoenix Park

The news came as An Garda Siochana unveiled the transport and security plans for the papal visit at Dublin Castle on Thursday.

Francis visits Dublin and Knock on the weekend of August 25 and 26 on the invitation of the World Meeting of Families 2018.

On Saturday August 25, the Pope will visit the Apostolic Nunciature on the Navan Road and the Capuchin Day Centre for the homeless in Dublin, before an evening mass in Croke Park.

On the morning of Sunday August 26, he will visit Knock Shrine and Church before heading to Phoenix Park for mass in the afternoon.

Tim Gaston, director of public transport services at the NTA, said: “Every bus, train and tram is being used for this event, and for the safety of the travelling public, if you have a ticket for the Phoenix Park, you will be allowed to travel for free within Dublin on the day of the event.”

It is understood the NTA will reimburse the transport services for lost revenue on the day.

More than 500,000 people are expected to attend Dublin’s Phoenix Park for the papal mass, the equivalent of seven All-Ireland football final spectator crowds.

Brian Lawless/PA Wire

Gardai were not willing to discuss numbers of guards being deployed for the visit, but noted there would be a “significant number” of security forces on the ground and say they are planning appropriately.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 27 July 2018 Devotional — Partnering with God

Topic: Partnering with God [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Friday July 27, 2018]

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. — Proverbs 19:21

Prayer is the greatest privilege of our lives. It’s not something we have to do; it’s something we get to do! Prayer is one of the ways we partner with God to see His plans and purposes come to pass in our lives and in the lives of those we love. It is the means by which we human beings on earth can actually enter into the awesome presence and power of God.

Prayer allows us to share our hearts with God, to listen for His direction, to express our thanksgiving, and to know how to discover and enjoy all the great things He has for us. I have heard it said that “all failure is a failure to pray.” Communicating with God is indeed the greatest privilege I know, and it is also the simplest privilege I know. Don’t make prayer complicated or difficult. Keep it simple and enjoy every moment spent with the Lord in prayer.

Prayer Starter: Father, I thank You for the great privilege of coming to You in prayer. It is amazing to think that I can enter into Your presence with thanksgiving today. Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer and for guiding me as I go through my day today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual July 29, 2018 Lesson 48 — Rapture: Purpose And Qualifications

TOPIC — Rapture: Purpose And Qualifications [RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual, 29th July 2018]

MEMORY VERSE: “2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” – John 14:2-3 (scroll down for RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL 29TH JULY, 2018 HYMN)

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 15:50-53 (Sunday School STUDENT Manual July 29, 2018)

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

INTRODUCTION:

Our last lesson revealed the meaning of the word, rapture. We also discovered events surrounding the rapture as regards timing and other issues. Today’s lesson will show us the reasons, the qualification as well as fallacies surrounding the rapture. May the good Lord teach our hearts and bless our lives with His truth by His Spirit, in Jesus’ name.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. Why will the rapture take place?
2. Who will be raptured?

WHY WILL THE RAPTURE TAKE PLACE?
The rapture will take place:
1. To resurrect the just of all ages from among the dead (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, Psalm 50:1-6).
2. To take the saints out of the world before the tribulation (Luke 21:34-36; 2 Thessalonians 2:7-8; 1 Thessalonians 1:10).
3. That Jesus Christ might present to Himself a Church without spots or wrinkles (Ephesians 5:27; John 14:1-3).
4. To transform or change the bodies of all faithful saints from mortality to immortality (Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Corinthians 15:21-23, 42-44, 51-58).
5. To assemble the saints at the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelations 19:1-10).
6. To allow the revelation of the anti-Christ (2 Thessalonians 2:1-8).
7. To present saints to God the Father (1 Thessalonians 3:13; Jude 24).
8. To make the saints whole in body, soul and spirit (1John 3:2-3; Romans 8:22-23).

WHO WILL BE RAPTURED?
The following set of people shall be raptured:
1. Those who are in Christ at His coming (John 1:12; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
2. Those who earnestly desire His appearance (Titus 2:13; Philippians 3:20).
3. Those who love the Lord supremely (Philippians 3:7-10; John 21:15-17; John 14:15; Mark 16:15-18; Luke 19:12-13).
4. Those whose citizenship is in Heaven (Philippians 3:20-21; Ephesians 2:19; Hebrews 11:10, 16).
5. Those who will live holy even as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16; Hebrews 12:14; 1John 3:1-3).

CONCLUSION
Let us be sober in watchfulness (1Thessalonians 5:6), always fellowshipping together (Hebrews 10:25) and keeping the unity of the faith in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3).

QUESTIONS:
1. State six reasons the rapture should take place.
2. Mention the categories of people that would be raptured.

I’ll be in Sunday School.

Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

David Ibiyeomie: War A Good Warfare

Topic: War A Good Warfare

1 Tim. 1:18 -This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

Every word of prophecy is actually God’s plan unfolded to you. Many things might have been declared in your favour but not every prophecy gets fulfilled on its own. The application of force is required to bring them into reality. You don’t watch prophecies; you war them out.

1 Cor. 16:9 – For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.

God’s word may look like falsehood or mockery if you don’t know what makes it happen. If you don’t do something about prophecy, a time will come you may even doubt the word of God. God’s word cannot fail but the problem is that you are watching the word instead of doing something about it. Whatever God said to you, you must war it out. God told me to go to G.R.A Port Harcourt but I still met great opposition.

That God told you something does not mean you will sit down, fold your hands, cross your leg and wait for it to happen; you must war it out! Stop waiting for the prophecies to fulfil themselves; you have to do something for them to come to pass.

Deut. 2:24 – Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.

Therefore, no contention, no possession. This is where many Christians miss it. The prophecy spoken into your life is true but you did not war it out. For every open door, there will be opposition because satan will always want to resist God’s word. From the days of John the Baptist till now, the kingdom of God suffereth violence and it is only those who are ready to be violent that will take what belongs to them by force. There must be an application of force to take what belongs to you.

Any time you see opposition, know that there is something God has in stock for you that satan is trying to resist. There is always resistance to the blessings of God. Any area you see resistance in your life, that is the area that God has prepared for you to succeed in. All you have to do is to war it out so you can enjoy your rest. I decree to you that from today, not one prophecy will fail in your life!

To war with prophecy, locate the right scriptures for that given situation and then identify the enemy which is the devil. The devil is the major enemy that wants to resist you.

1Cor. 16:9 – For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.

1 Peter 5:8 -Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

James 4:7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

2 Cor. 10:3-4 – For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

Eph. 2:2 -Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

When satan wants to oppose you, he enters a person as an agent to make you turn your attention from him (satan) and put all your energy fighting the man. That is why the Bible described him as a trickster. The moment you are not vigilant, satan distracts you; giving you the impression that the person after you is the man you are seeing physically.

So, your first enemy is the devil. Before you attack any human agent, you must first deal with their master, the devil. There is no point fighting a recruit when there is a general commanding him. Jesus identified and rebuked the devil when he spoke through Peter rebuking Christ for speaking about his death in Matt. 16:22-24.

Warfare is a reality; the devil is the enemy. After you have identified the enemy, the next thing to do is to fight in faith. Faith is the force that is required for the fulfilment of God’s word.

Mark 11:23-24 -For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

It is not enough to identify your enemy; you must build your faith not to doubt God’s word. Faith is a fight because satan will always come to tell you something to counter God’s word. Don’t allow circumstances move you; fight with your faith and contend with prayers and your victory is sure!!

God bless you

Our Daily Bread Devotional 27 July 2018 – Lavish Expressions of Love

Topic: Lavish Expressions of Love [Our Daily Bread 27 Friday July, 2018]

Read: 2 Corinthians 9:6–15, Bible in a Year: Psalms 43–45; Acts 27:27–44

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion. 2 Corinthians 9:11

On our wedding anniversary, my husband, Alan, gives me a large bouquet of fresh flowers. When he lost his job during a corporate restructure, I didn’t expect this extravagant display of devotion to continue. But on our nineteenth anniversary, the color-splashed blossoms greeted me from their spot on our dining room table. Because he valued continuing this annual tradition, Alan saved some money each month to ensure he’d have enough for this personal show of affection.

My husband’s careful planning exhibited exuberant generosity, similar to what Paul encouraged when he addressed the Corinthian believers. The apostle complimented the church for their intentional and enthusiastic offerings (2 Corinthians 9:2, 5), reminding them that God delights in generous and cheerful givers (vv. 6–7). After all, no one gives more than our loving Provider, who’s always ready to supply all we need (vv. 8–10).

We can be generous in all kinds of giving, caring for one another because the Lord meets all of our material, emotional, and spiritual needs (v. 11). As we give, we can express our gratitude for all God has given us. We can even motivate others to praise the Lord and give from all God has given them (vv. 12–13). Openhanded giving, a lavish expression of love and gratitude, can demonstrate our confidence in God’s provision for all His people.

Prayer: Lord, please help us trust Your abundant love and generosity, so we can give to others as You so faithfully give to us.

Generous giving displays courageous confidence in God’s loving and faithful provision.
